Title: Seat Recommendations...Saddleman, Mustang, Corbin,....anything else ?
Post by: joe98 on January 21, 2019, 04:55:10 PM
Folks, last year I picked up a (new to me) 2012 FLHXSE3 Street Glide CVO.  My previous bike was a 2008 Street Glide.  I was originally looking at getting an Ultra Ltd, but two CVO bikes came my way., first a 2012 Ultra CVO in beautiful black diamond & orange, and then 2nd bike Street Glide CVO also 2012.  The first got away, as I hummed and hawwed to long...my own fault.  Anyways, I find the stock seat on this bike isn't the greatest, atleast not for me(Street Glide CVO seat). Good looking seat with nice stitching, good for short distances.   I did own a Mustang wide touring seat on my 1998 Fat Boy, very comfortable but big and bulky.
What can you kind folks recommend on a CVO Street Glide that will still be comfortable on a long day, but not take away from the clean slim lines of the bike.  I never have any passengers, and usually ride solo 100 per cent all the time..I have also never ridden with a riders back rest and have heard that they are fantastic and once you use own you'll never ride without it.
P.S.  I have a matching removal tour pak for my bike so hopefully the new seat would be compatible with it.

Thanks in advance...

Joe

Joe,

I have had the stock seat, the Saddleman Road Sofa, and a Corbin. The stock seat was "okay" at best for me. From 2001 to 2013 I ran the Saddleman Road Sofa. It was comfy from the start, but not too stylish. In 2013 I had a custom made Corbin. It looked great. I was told it would take some time to break in and get used to. In 2017 I went back to the Saddleman Road Sofa for comfort. I found the Corbin just too hard, especially on those long 500 mile days.

The only thing I added to the Road Sofa was a beaded seat cover by BeadRider. It makes hot weather riding much more comfortable as air gets circulated under your butt.

Hope this helps.

Mark

I highly recommend Danny Gray. Stylish, comfortable and a great bunch to do business with. Riders backrest is a must for me as well!

Everybody's opinion will be different....for me my Corbin classic solo is great for those 600+ mile days. YMMV

Same for me.  I have done many 600 plus mile days on my Corbin Classic solo with rider back rest.

Thanks for the replies fellas.  I do know that Corbin is a heavy weight in the industry and puts out a quality product.  Not cheap, but you know how it goes "  you get what you pay for ".   I did check out Danny Gray's website, and some nice stuff on there.   Got some bike shows coming up soon in my neck of the woods, will have a look...
I do recall some people saying it took a very long time to break in a Corbin seat, somehow there padding or cushion is much firmer than other brands ?  Oh well, I'll figure it out hopefully;  still got lots of time.  Lots of white stuff on the roads here.  Here's to an early spring  :P
Thanks again...much appreciated.

yes the Corbin padding is firmer, but it also does not compress during long rides. Takes some getting used to, but for me there is no going back to anything else.

I have a Corbin solo on my 2011 Street Glide and a Corbin dual on my 2010 Ultra Classic. I don't have much to compare other than to the stock saddles. I wish they were more comfortable but I don't know if there is an answer to any 400-600 mile a day rides other than just taking your regular breaks and letting the blood get flowing again into your rear end.

I’m a little late to the party but don’t forget the dealer does the seat demo program. I’m 6’2 250lbs so I tried the tall boy for a couple days first and now I’m on the hammock. Wasn’t crazy about the tallboy. The hammock is awesome up to about the 3 hour mark and is not much to look at.

I'm new here but was researching a new seat for my 2020 CVO Street Glide and found quite a bit of positive feedback for Mean City Cycles in NC that you can send your stock seat into and they redo the padding and styling to your ht/wt/position/etc.

Welcome to the site. Mean City does good work, but they won't work on CVO seats.

Thank you gents. bigC....why won't they work on CVO seats?

I always knew they would not work on factory heated CVO seats....I was under the impression they would work on regular seats..I would give them a call...it won't hurt to ask.

They told me that there isn't enough there to work with. I talked to them several years ago on a CVO Street Glide and again this past winter on a CVO Limited seat. I got same answer both times. I ended up putting a Corbin Dual Tour on the new Limited this summer. I've only had it on for a few weeks, but so far it's great. An added bonus is that it moved me back a few inches.

1 more vote for the Corbin solo. Very comfortable all day long. Just ordered the Pillion and passenger backrest 2 weeks ago.

I want to get a Dual Tour for my 2020 Limited. How is the passenger seat?? I hope it is better than the removable pillion that matches my Corbin solo.  Need my better half to be comfortable for long rides also.

Can't really speak about the passenger seat as my wife doesn't ride, so it hasn't been used. I would assume since it's a one piece pan that it will sit similar to the driver's seat. When I first sat on the new seat it seemed fairly firm compared to the stock seat. Then on the first ride I did about 180 miles with one stop, and I felt like I had only gone a few miles. Corbin says it takes a couple thousand miles to break it in. I'm very happy far! As a bonus the seat moved me back at least a couple of inches.

Another vote for Corbin Classic Solo. As stated earlier in this thread I had personally used several Danny Gray seats over the years with great success. Roughly a year ago I chose to take a leap of faith (no local dealers) and upgrade my stock seat on my 18 CVO RG to a new Corbin and couldn't be happier. I also added the standard riders backrest and the large passenger pillion. If you have a BSR she will need to "break in" her portion as well.
I have thousands of miles on it now and it is definitely the best fit for me.

Been running a Corbin classic solo on my Street Glide for years..it's a great seat, just not for everyone. I am hoping when I finally buy the dual tour for the new roadglide that the wife likes it as much.... :nervous:

I have put a Corbin seat on all my bikes from H-D, Buell, Triumph, and Honda.  I won't use anymore else. Great quality and customer service.  I am lucky and can go to Corbin and they custom make to my specifications.  All people are different and what I like may not be your cup of tea. I know what you finally choose will be great.
