Biker Bar Report
« on: June 21, 2017, 10:50:49 AM »

Have a seat and grab a drink and I'll tell my story. After a super spooky experience with breaking the ratcheting mechanics in a strap going to Daytona towing a couple of bikes and messing up my fairing and windshield I started looking around. I decided to try a Biker Bar and my friend bought a couple as well. Our experiences with both have been great with a lot of miles on them since Daytona ( I'm guessing 3,500 or so). But the last trip was a little different. Pulled the bike to MITM from NC without an issue and from there to Kansas City was good. But on the way back from KC to NC had an issue. Was leaving a truck stop on 64 somewhere between St Louis and parts unknown when dodging a large and deep pot hole with the truck I wasn't so lucky with the trailer. Lind of hard to explain but was running about 12-15 mph and the front left tire fell in to the hole and it was like the perfect size hole. It tried to hold on to the tire. It was very violent, the trailer jumped straight up (8-10") and slammed into a large curb and ruptured the tire. When I opened the trailer to get the spare the bar was still attached to the base plate and to one side of the bike. The other side the C-shaped clamp on the bar had straighten out and let the bike come loose and lean into the trailer wall. It was a mess.......................

Continued;
So a very nice truck driver, Charlie Frame 606.584.8569 frametruckingllc@gmail.com came to my rescue. we changed the tire got the bike upright and off the bar. Took a 5 lb hammer to the c mount to add some curve back to the mount. attached the bar back to the bike And she hooked back up just a normal. And we drove another 700 miles on some very rough roads to the house. So what am I saying, is the bar at fault? No I don't think so not sure anything would have survived the impact without damage. Would I buy another? YES as a footnote I called the manufacturer and warranty asked for me to send pictures. At first they were going to replace the bar but then, they not me, decided to replace everything because of the violence of the impact. Great product and great customer service. Call me or PM if you would like more details.
AS A SIDE NOTE, the man listed above I believe to be part of God's intervention for the day. He was really a miracle for me. All the work and help (3 hours worth) was unbelievable! I was able to give him an encouraging word and speak to him about his eternal soul. I would like everyone who would call me their friend to reach out to Charlie and thank him for his kindness to me. That quality is very rare these days!

Sorry to learn of your issues BigLew, but pleased to know it all worked out okay in the end result. One just never knows where help may come from when you need it... Charlie must be a terrific man to offer so much time and effort.

its difficult when i look back at the entire experience to not believe that we were both their to share that moment in time. He to be kind to me and me to share that he needed to seek out his eternal destination and how to get there! But thats just me!

Good post, BigLew.
We would do well to remember that there are still caring and concerned people out there who defy the "new norm" of where our society seems to be heading.

I had to look up biker bar as I initially thought it was about a beer type bar. From the sounds of it, the impact was so large that I'm not certain anything would have survived the impact. good to hear about the great customer service

My first thought when I saw the title to the thread was "what in the world is Mike doing at a biker bar?"

I hate to hear you had problems, but glad it all worked out. Sounds like you made a friend for life in Charlie. Great story, and thanks for sharing.

Of course Mike is such a great guy you would have to be a real @55hole not to help him. Maybe Charlie will make it to Maggie Valley!

Email sent to Charlie.

I know a lot of you have these and like them. But I asked the manufacturer at Sturgis for the engineers report on design and testing for strength of the support (part that clamps the bike frame), he at first answered a question from another guy then just totally ignored us and finally said to call the factory and took a break.
Showed me they have nothing to support there device other than "this looks like a good idea, bet we can sell some". Not to me. I will stick with Condor and six straps hooked to welded e-track.

Sorry to hear about your mishap there Mike.  But as far as the guy that rescued you..... a friend of mine that's passed now used to tell me "good things happen to good people.....just keep paying it forward and don't question it".

I believe you know that I did a lot of research on the Biker Bar and could not find one negative comment about it.  I know of more than a few bikes that have came loose from their tie downs or damaged suspensions when a trailer hit a pot hole or two.  So, when the next person does the research....your comments will be the first that they find.

For those that don't know about B&W Biker Bar, here's a link to a thread on this forum with photos of my install...... https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=79634.0

After having a similar strap incident coming home from daytona, i also went with the biker bar. Its a great way to tie down. I'll never use straps again.
