09 Road Glide test ride
« on: August 16, 2008, 01:25:45 PM »

A friend of mine who owns an 07 Road Glide was in Illinois this week and stopped in at the local HD dealer in  Shorewood.  Harley was there with their 09 demo ride bikes.  He signed up at 10:00AM for a test ride on the  CVO Road Glide.  His turn came up at 2:30PM.  Here's his first empressions.

1. Ride:  Mush better than his 07.  Very noticeable difference.

2. Looks:  The rear of the bike is what really caught his eye.  He also said the new front wheel/fender looks awesome.  Said the paint was great!  One very interesting feature is the metal skid plates on the bottom of the extended bags.  Dragon proof bags!

He had two negative comments.  The windshield looks great, but, way too much turbulence.  The painted inner fairing (orange) puts off a LOT of glare when in direct sun light.  Told him that's what they make sun glasses for!  :cool26:

He's now trying to figure out how to tell his wife that his 07 is worn out and needs replacing!

:orange: Instead of signing an insurance waiver before you test-ride the '09 SERG, they should ask you to sign a credit app to pre-qualify for the up-coming purchase that you will be making after the ride. Ha Ha Ha Ha :)

Screamin' posted a photo of those on his bike.

Would be freaky to start scraping the bags, but I gotta believe the contact point would be more on the (unprotected) outside edge and not on the flat bottom surface. :nixweiss:

I get nervous enough scraping metal/chrome parts I don't know what I'd do at the thought of scraping painted parts. :nervous: When I first saw those I was thinking maybe they were for setting the bags on the ground when they were off the bike. :nixweiss:

They don't! You either lay them on something on their backside or pick up the bag stand like I did. Dam extended bags. ;) :)

They balance. Not very well but they do. Smart play is to lay them on something soft.

Are they actually real extended bags (inside more room) or is that strictly for looks on the outside only, like a solid piece?

Little perplexed by your question but yes, they are real. They're screwed into (I think) the "normal" bags. You can not access them. There is no more room in these bags than any other hard bag from the Moco. Considering trying to make access to them by cutting out non - critical areas where they meet but I'll not be the first to try that deal.

As to the skid plates, most of the metal is on the underside. There is enough thickness and they are very close to the vertical bag portion that I believe that they would touch before the paint unless you just flat lay the bike down. There are no saddlebag crash bars so I don't want to think about what happens in a fall over.

Bob said it's a stick on piece.  Inside volume of the bags are the same as old bags.

That's right. For show only.
