If your running HD syn3 in your trans, get rid of it. Try a gear oil like mobile1 or spectum. Engine oil should never be run in the trans. This should help quiet things down.

Im kinda new on this web site so I dont want to over step my position BUT I have to laugh everytime I hear or read about someone complaining about the sound coming from 5th gear ...HELL ITS A HARLEY for Christ sake NOT a Honda Goldwing it supposed to make noises ..at least they dont sling off chains or drip oil like a siff anymore like they did in the 60s,,70s and 80s...

Redline Heavy weight shock proof gear lube... better shifting and 1/4th the noise.  :drink:

1st and 5th whine because these are straight cut gears, they do this because these are your "pulling" gears, the 2010 have onlt 1st straight so no 5th whine.
But by all means, change that oil out and go with a better brand, Redline, BelRay or similar

Its something that will become normal and can be drowned out by cranking up the tunes and adding Redline or Formula Plus.

Mine had a slight whine on decelleration for a few thousand miles, but now its virtually silent, on back roads I run in fifth for hours so maybe its just worn in correctly.
