Figured this was as good a place as any to ask for an opinion. I have a S&W and Sig 9MM, an S&W 45 and a few .380's but now I am looking for a 1911. I usually carry the SIG P365 so the 1911 will be mostly a range gun. Looking in the $1500 range. Maybe a Colt Competition?  Read some good things about that one, but still undecided. Opinions welcome....

creme de le creme:  Nighthawk, Wilson combat, Les Bauer, Ed Brown and perhaps one of the Cabot's for a cool 250K..... can't go wrong with that. :carrot:

Next thing to a 1911. Just doesn't have the grip safety.

CZ Shadow 2. Competition ready out of the box and under your budget amount by a few Bennies

Lots of good ones for that price. Won't get you a Brown, Baer or Wilson, name is only part of the game. Colt, Kimber, Dan Wesson to name a couple of really good ones that won't break the bank. And if you look at the CZ that OBB recommended, don't let the single action trigger scare you. Not everyone is supposed to carry "cocked & locked"

Good looking piece....the 17+1 capacity probably makes it unavailable while I am still in NY.....trying to get out of this state as soon as we find a house....then that gun will be possible. Will save the link and check it out. Already have a CZ Carbine on my list.....

Not worried about the single action....besides, this one is probably more of a range gun. I have my Sig P365 for carry--love that gun..also have an S&W M&P 9mm for carry if I want.

Must be in a minority here, but I have had very good luck with the Springfield 1911 line. Have own several over the years and have been very good shooters

Not in the minority by any means!! Springfield Armory was founded in 1777 and quickly became known as "Americas Gun"

Kimber and Springfield Armory make some very nice 1911's.  They can be had for a little less then your 1500 range.

That said, I got a very good deal on my Les Bear, paid 1800 for it, normally just over 2K.

And there's the rub with concealed carry. If you pull your weapon and dont even fire it, you are liable for criminal conduct. If god forbid, you end up shooting someone even in self defense, you can kiss your life goodbye as you know it with attorney fees, trials and notoriety. Its no little thing to decide to carry a concealed gun, you put a whole level of increased responsibility on your shoulders.
I carry either an XDS .45 or an S&W .38 Chief's Special.

On the insurance front, I have the USCCA policy.  The biggest reason I chose them over NRA is that NRA won't pay any money until after you are found not guilty.  If you're found guilty, NRA doesn't pay at all.

I don't want to withdraw $100,000 for an attorney's retainer fee (yep) from my retirement account (and then pay the taxes on it!).  CCA pays right from the start.
