Title: 2010 Saddle Bags Locks
Post by: RCFlyer on April 12, 2011, 09:35:07 PM
I know the 2011 have different saddle bags with locks, but has anyone tried these with the 2010?

RCFlyer,

I have been thinking about them but have not gotten around to actually ordering them as I have other things that have to get done first. I think they should work fine. Given these are soft bags they are more deterrant than anything else but sometimes that's all you need. be sure to report back with some pics if you get them installed.

Yes,  I have installed these on my 2010 bags.

They really worked well.  I installed them through the metal on the inside of the bags at the top.   It took a lot of special time to line them up but was worth it as it is really solid.  When I close the top they almost engage themselves.  Security is pretty good and someone would have to be very rough to break in,  hopefully the alarm would sound.  A VERY skinny arm could be wedged in to rummage around, but I don't think you could see what you were feeling in there and it would be tough to get much in size out.  Bottom line:  They will work for me.  :jalapeno:

A friend with a fat bob saw them and had to have them.   He chose to mount only through the leather only (not through the metal as I did on mine) and we installed in 15 minutes.   He likes them and they look good.   A little less solid than mine, but good enough to deter most thieves.

If requested,  I would go take some pictures and post.

Forgot to point out that I purchased the keyed alike locks.  This way the same key used for my forklocks and ignition works on my bags.  I only have to carry one key.   I was worth the price difference.

Ozarke,

Thanks for the update. Do you have any pictures of your install you can share?

OK,  here are some pictures of my lock install.   Keep in mind that I chose to install these to catch the metal strip inside bag.  This reduced the options for placement.  This also complicated the install as it took some serious figuring to align from the inside and probably should not be done unless you are very confident that you can figure it out.

My friend decided that he would rather have the lock on the middle of the edge between the buckles. He thought that it would look better than mine.   ???  (eye of the beholder)  We installed them following the instructions provided,  perfectly and quickly.

Both work really well as the pin is lined up and just goes in the hole without much thought or effort.

Here are the photos.
