Title: 2010 convert Handle Bar Swap
Post by: JPahl77ta on April 01, 2013, 06:54:07 PM
Hello Everyone

Im a proud owner of a 2010 Convert! Just bought it in Jan and cant wait to get it out this spring!  One thing I would like to do to it though is swap to the 2011 mini apes. I personally think it looks allot better.

Has anyone done this swap? IF so what else needs to be done? Brake lines, clutch cable, wire harness, throttle cable?

Called dealer and they also mentioned maybe swapping to Poly bushings on the risers.

I wouldn't go any higher with the bars than 8" to 10" I hoping some of the stock lines/cables will work?

Oh P.S Dealer quoted me $490 for the 2011 stock bars! Outch! Was looking at  Todds Cycles bars. They look good from pics. Does anyone have experience with this company and the quality?

The 2011 and 12 bars are great, expensive but i think worth it,
Also try Roland Sands, they do some nice ones!

I did the swap on mine.  I had brake and clutch lines made up as well as throttle cables. I went to Magnumshielding because they're in my hometown.  They do nice work.  I took the old ones in and said I needed longer ones made up.  I don't recall how much longer they were.  The 2011 front brake line won't work because of ABS.  You can use the HD 2011 clutch line if you want. I also had to extend the wiring.  It's a pain to do, but I think it's worth it.  I bought a kit.  I love those Z Bars.  I did not do anything with the risers.

Thanks for the helpful info! I think I'll bite the bullet and spend the money for the Harley Bars.  Im sure once I get the bars Ill just need to take measurements for the lines and cables.

Does anyone know of a pre-made extension for our wire harnesses with plug and play? Im not real crazy about cutting into mine :-\

Go with the HD bars and you wont regret it, they are great looking and very comfortable,
The cables are pretty expensive from HD, a buddy of mine did the same and got some from Eastern Performance, think they were Drag Specialist and cost about half of the HD price,
Good Luck,
Charlie

JPahl77ta - I have a 2011 CVO convertible that I swapped the original handlebars out with 18" ape hangers.  I have the original handlebars sitting in my garage.  If you haven't bought them already, I could probably sell you mine.
