Wiring question re: LED Turn signals on a 2010 Convertible
« on: September 19, 2013, 10:15:52 PM »

I need to install an alarm compatible load equalizer on my 2010 for the new LED turn signals.  I don't have the service manual for this bike. Does anyone have the wiring diagram they can share or can anyone describe what color the left and right signal power wires and ground wires are?  I'd also be interested in where you spliced in and also where you put the load equalizer.  Thanks

I was able to download a service manual. Violet and brown wires are power to front L&R signals, ground is black. Load equalizer is installed and the LEDs look great.  Custom Dynamics Light Ringz P-2040-1077 and Kuryakyn alarm compatible load equalizer 4857.

you choose Custom Dynamics led lights but a load equalizer from Kuryakyn, any particular reason for that?

FYI............the 2011-2012 Softail CVO's do not require an equalizer.

SteveO, I know that statement is true for a partial changeover to LED's but is that also the case if I change both front and rear turn signals.  I am asking because I changed the rear to Signal Dynamics lights and love the look but was worried that if I changed the front as well it would also require me to purchase a load equalizer.  Your thoughts please.

Jasray,

The parts guy at the local HD dealer suggested the lights and load equalizer. He had the same setup on his bike. He liked the Kuryakyn due to low heat.  Kuryakyn headquarters is only about 15 miles from this dealer so that might have something to do with it as well.

appreciate the comment on "low heat", last thing we need with these 110 engines is more heat!!!

I have installed the Custom Dynamics LED's on both front and rear of my 2012 Softail CVO with no issues, everything works fine, as mentioned earlier no load equalizer is needed on some of the late models, including the 2011-2014 Softails including the CVO.

Look on the Custom Dynamics web site for a list of what bikes require a load equalizer or give them a call, they are very helpful.  ;D
