Zero Oil pressure...WTF
« on: August 01, 2011, 09:33:33 PM »

Out driving last night after it cooled down a bit...took a fun little route for about an hour ride. bike's running great...no issues...pull over to take a pair of riding gloves off a buddy wanted me to try, and was going to throw them in the bag. bikes idling on the kickstand and all of a sudden the oil pressure drops to 0. no change in the idle just no oil pressure. i rev it up and it bounces back to 30 psi or so, but as soon as i back off it falls to 0. typically after it's warm it idles around 10-12 psi and runs at 32.

No unusual motor noises, no weird whines or metallic sounds. just no oil pressure at idle.

so, towed it home yet was too busy to call the dealer. will tomorrow.

i researched some and see that the oil pressure sending unit can have issues, along with a host of other things...so I guess the dealer will have to figure it out. In all my bikes over the years, this hasn't happened...hmmm..

The exact same thing just happened to me on my 2011 FLTRUSE. It was the oil pressure sending unit. Changed it out and all is fine.

If you're hearing absolutely no difference in any engine sounds my first guess would be a sending unit also Ron.  If so yours isn't the first to have failed just within the group here lately.

Oil pressure senders are something almost never had to mess with on Harleys before.  Now there's been a rash.  Wonder if the MoCo cheapened the spec's or if there's just a bad run?

Will keep my finger crossed it's the simple solution :2vrolijk_21: .

Sending unit went out on my 2010 Ultra. Don't remember how many miles on the bike when it quit but it was replaced under waranty and no problem with it since.

Hope you're right on the simple solution...hate to tear things apart, even with warranty.

I'll know in the morning around noon...stay tuned

Oil pressure sending unit bad replaced as the culprit...whew...dodge a bullet.

Picked it up and rode for 2 hours in 98+ temps...all seems good.

Keeping my fingers crossed...wait I have the ESP (first time I've ever purchased one).

I read somewhere that they won't produce oil pressure below a certain RPM. Seems like it was somewhere between 700-1000. You might check that out. Thats why they idle them at 1000- 1200 I think. Someone on here will know and probably see this and verify or correct me.
