I have the same stand and can tell you that the installation is pretty straight forward and I don't think someone could install it improperly, but I suppose anything is possible. I agree that the lever is difficult to get your foot on straddling the bike with passenger floorboards, however, I would recommend that you put your kickstand down first, get off the bike, hold it straight up and then use your right foot to push down on the lever while pushing the bike back, works real well. For wheel spinning trying to drive off, I had the same issue, but found that the lower profile 150/80 rear tire I was using at the time was the problem. Switched to the stock 140/90 and all is well. You do have to be careful that you don't park over dips in the road, etc., the stand design assumes the pavement is level. Hope this helps.
