HARLEY'S BLUETOOTH
« on: February 01, 2008, 12:17:02 AM »

Is there anyone out there privy to a compatability list for the the HK Bluetooth add on module for 07-08' Ultra Classics and CVO's? Primarily interested if the Palm Trio 755P will pair the Harley's BT module.

Thanks

Interesting, I looked at the list and it doesn't list the Palm.  My Palm Treo700w works with my '06, although it does not access the phones directory.  I can number dial and dial from the bikes directory without issue.

Must be a change on the later set up.

Be aware that the MoCo list is not exclusive, Gordy. The only way to find out is to try your Palm. :nixweiss:

Hey Twolanerider, thanks for posting that list. Darn - the Palms are not there.  Jim - not sure i want to spend $500+ to try and find out. Think i mossy into a dealer with a CVO in stock and play with there money.

So far i have had bad luck pairing this phone (755P) with other devices. It's looking good though since RJob was able to pair his 700. Hey - if i get this figured out I'll post results here in case someone else goes through the same pain.

thanks

Just did a major update on my Palm Treo 750 to wm6 and it had a blue tooth update too not sure of the version.
This update resolved my connectivtiy problems, I'd be interested to know if anyone has been able to access their Palm directory thru car or HK-HD. The Treo contact list maybe too big.
I've not purchased BT upgrade yet, I can't believe HD wants $500 for this chip.
To be honest I'd rather have BT over HK-GPS that came on the bike, Zumo is way better, it has BT already.
Not that I'm wine-ing (w/o cheese) of course

Sportygordy,
The bluetooth module doesn't come standard on the CVO.  So unless you find an SEUC3 in the dealership that the prospective owner has asked to have the bluetooth module installed, you won't be able to check to see if your device works on it.   :-\

I don't think there are any updates for this phone. I've been Palms web site and Sprints and haven't seen any updates. Just curious, are you have pairing problems with you 750P? I've only found a couple devices i can pair with, the Garmine Zumo was one of them. If hear of any updates let me know. I'll post anything i hear; right here.

I haven't paired it to my Zumo yet and not sure that I will. I did have my Razor paired, but I could only see when someone was calling because I didn't have any bluetooth talking ability. I only did that to know if an important call came in so I could stop and call them back. I noticed that battery didn't last long when paired so I'm not sure I'm going do this w/the Treo.

If your carrier is Sprint, Palm just had an update for them on 1/30/08 (see here - Palm Treo 755p Software Update for Sprint) if that's not the update you were speaking of earlier.

Sorry for not reading this thread sooner. As you know I have tried SEVERAL phones with the BT module. Yes, the 755p works! The only draw back is that the radio will not display your phonebook. However, in the 755p it will display your speed dial numbers. The speed dial page on a typical 755p should have 59 available buttons. I have all of mine filled with the most frequently used numbers (Chip's is # 1). When there is an incoming call that is not in the list it will still display the caller ID. One note of mention: someone has suggested to leave the unit in the TP and run a power cord in there. I don not recommend you do this. You will need access to the phone while riding. If a call is missed or a voicemail is left, the screen does not go back to the "ready" position. In order for the BT to work, the phone must be in that "ready" state.

Hope this helps,

AJ

So in your opinion, is Harley's Bluetooth module worth the $500+. Would you purchase it today based on our experience. How is the sound quality. I know it is a must to use a headset arrangement. Are you using Harley's or someone else's

Appreciate any suggestions or tips you have. I'm one the fence thinking about spending the money for the BT module.

It's worth it for me - I know most guys love to escape from the phone on their bike, but I'm a one man business, and I need to be contactable by my customers; after all, it's them who pay for my bike! ;)  I would purchase it today, no question.

Sound quality is fine - people at the other end have no idea you're on the bike even, and I can have easy conversations travelling at 85mph on the freeway.  I've always (up till now) used the Harley headset that came with the bike, but next season I'll be using a J&M headset, which I've bought during the closed season.

It's expensive though, but it does integrate fully and properly with the HK Audio, so I'd say if your need to have it makes it worth it for you, go right ahead!

No question about it. As Jim said, I also am a one man wrecking crew. The BT module has allowed me to take the bike on trips where I would otherwise have to take the cage to be in communication. My customers & suppliers can call and never know I'm on the bike.

I would purchase it again. Order it from Jenni @ Charlie's HD 304-523-1340 and get the 20% discount. I installed it myself and as most on this site can tell you, wrenches & me don't get along.

Everyone on this site told me to getr the J&M headset before I even bought my bike. I had then wire it into a Nolan 102 helmet (a whole nother thread).

I have used a handheld microphone & bike speakers to talk on the phone. The only problem it that you have to key the mike to talk. But that's getting off subject.

I hope that helps you make the decision,
AJ

O,K, - I'm convinced to go for it. I appreciate everyones input here. One last question, I understand the BT module occupies the rear Tour Pak. How much space and no problem with the linear right?

Now comes the point where you're going to need insight & tips!

Instead of putting mine in the TP and wasting space, I decided to put it under the fairing. I will have some extra feet of wiring to contend with but it's worth it to save space in the TP. There is a picture of mine in here somewhere if you do a search.

In the leather tour pak, there's a raised rectangular area in the liner, on the left hand side, below the hinge.  It sits in there quite nicely, though it does raise the liner off the wall of the tour pak a little.  Some dumb dealer techs never think of that and mount it on the front wall of the liner, and they cut a big chunk out of it, so if you go for having it in the tour pak, and you are not fitting it yourself (it's not that difficult a job though), make sure you tell the guy who's fitting it exactly where to mount it.  See attached pic of mine - you'll see I've also put a cigar lighter socket in there so the phone can sit in the tour pak on charge.

As AJ says, some folks have put them in the fairing, on top of the radio, though I believe space is quite tight there, but it does go, albeit with a load of extra wiring that has to be coiled up.

Interesting!  Put a bit of sensible thought into it, and did NOT follow the instructions it comes with. Must be a good dealer!

One thing not mentioned is that I believe SG has an SEUC3 which has the hard tour pac. You will have more room in there for it but I would still put in the the fairing so as not to loose valuable real estate in the TP.

WOW, got more input from everyone then anticipated. Thanks for posting pictures too, even Miss Bluetooth. I think I will opt to install the BT in the fairing as AJ did. I'll probably whack the unwanted cable off an re-conecterize the cable.

Thanks all.

Where did you connect the cigar lighter socket?  Did you use a splitter?

Thanks,

Mark

Bought the plug and connectors to interface with the connector that's in the Tour Pak, but <obviously> unused, that would connect to the king tourpak light bar that isn't on the leather tour pak.  Simple, and easy to disconnect when you lift the liner out....  ;)

Do you think I could connect two up cigar lighters up (one for iphone charger and one for ipod) via splitter to that circuit?

Don't see why not - I did just that on My 03 Ultra.  All you need to do is make sure they don'r draw more current than the fuse can stand (though I doubt they will!)

Palm recently came out with new software that expands the number of systems the Treos work with.  The software is free.  Try contacting Palm.

Could you explain this a litle more. What are "systems"? Is the SW for all Palms? Or just one carrier?

AJ,
I know Palm just came out w/an update for the 755P for Sprint, but I haven't seen anything for Alltel (I think you have them as I do). You can look here - Support Downloads for Treo 755p to see what updates they have for our phone for all the carriers.

BTW - If you ever need any help doing a hard reset/restore let me know. :-[ :huepfenlol2:

I've got a Palm 750 (AT&T) there was major system upgrade for the windows mobile Treos to WM6, this upgrade included a bluetooth update. It resolved my BT problems with my car and Garmin products. Check (http://www.palm.com/us/) they should have sent out update notices for changes for palm OS for treo.
I am anxious to see how my treo works with the HD BT, when I get installed.

D00d, I was aware of the system wide change for Sprint that included the Palm Treo 755p software update. That is why I was curious what other information he had.

Now the big question for you is... did you buy the backup software that I recommended several months ago?

Not until I recently got the SD card that I told you about. ;) At the time I had to reset I hadn't installed any new software. I was updating the Documents software and something happened during the update, and I wasn't able to view attachments in emails anymore. Luckily I hadn't changed much or installed anything other then came stock on the phone, and reseting wasn't a big deal.

Yes to all of those, AND you already have it on your bike - it's stock on the CUSE3!

Jim

LATER:   What a load of bolleaux I speak!   :P  I should know better than to answer things in the morning, not being a morning person and all!  Of course it's NOT stock!  I fixed my mind on the GPS system?  (Why? The voices told me to!)

But yes, they still do it, and yes, it will work with all the other modules.

Don't know about the international version, but it is not standard on the NA CUSE3s.

Cutting the harness down to put it in the fairing isn't hard, cut it out of the middle and solder it back together is best, the connectors on the end might be a bit rough to locate.  I did mine and it works great.  However, I didn't put it back in after they replaced my radio recently, not sure I'm goin to, might put the BlueTooth up for sale.  I just don't need it anymore like I did when I got it.

You mean the part number for the Bluetooth module?  It was 76408-06 (you also needed wiring harness 70164-06) but as far as I know, Harley discontinued it last year, with no replacement. Shame, because it works great!  :nixweiss:

Thank you Jim; I've seen, somewhere on this site, another part number for the module which was 70164-06. As long as you know is it a mistake or is there different BT modules ?

OOPS !  Sorry Jim it was as you mentionned the Harness number
