Title: Are you keeping your 2009 CVO ROAD GLIDE.
Post by: YELLOWBIRD on September 29, 2013, 09:04:01 AM
Just wanted to see what other owners of 2009 CVO ROAD GLIDE are thinking/doing with their bikes?

To me (I know everyone's bike is special) but this Model year is kinda special.

Last year built by a 4 man team
First year of the newer frame, 180 tire size, etc.
Last bike (so far) with the painted Screaming Eagle
Last year of the Original FLTRSE before Changing to the custom

For me, people still ask me if my bike is brand new. I have added a ton of upgrades to make this "MY" bike. It handles unreal, heat issues is pretty much as gone as it will be. Really the only thing I plan left to do is maybe go into the motor within time of course.

In short I plan on keeping this scoot for life!

I may look into another Harley down the road, really liken a Road King, but for sure a used older one. Also, like everyone else knows already, the new road glide is coming in 2015.

So, with all this in mind, what are other CVO FLTRSE3 owners thinking of doing with their rides?

Mine is staying with me. We all see the "old guy riding the shovel" around, and I fully plan on being the "old guy riding the yellow twin cam" around. I have the old part down already, just waiting on the bike to catch up.... ;D

Mines not going anywhere, just had a new motor put in it after the OE ate itself up after only 34k. Hopefully, this one has better lifters in it.

No plans on changing.  I have not intention on giving mother Harley the type of money she wants for a replacement.

And the Yellow SERG is the most awesome color/model HD has ever produced.

I will be keeping mine also. Last year with the Eagle :2vrolijk_21:
Unless MOCO makes some really big changes,it could very well be my last HD.
Lets hope the New RG coming out will be a winner. And not just a cooled exhaust valve, radio and vent.
It will have to be something really new to get me to spend the $$$.

I just got mine, so I guess I'm gonna keep for a while. I always loved the 09's. The color schemes, The Eagles, the "look" of all the colors, even Greg's and Brad's, But I'm partial to the Silver...

I'm so upside down in mine that I can't afford to get rid of it!

The '09 drew plenty of crowds at Laguna Seca this weekend.

It's so cool that owners of these 2009 CVO's Road Glides are so passionate and loyal to their scoots. (not that other makes of CVO's models aren't!)

What's really amazing is that FROM THE SMALL AMOUNT of post (at the this time) regarding this tread, that the YELLOW FLTRSE3

was the lowest number of production, but has left a mark with the most post!!!   :bananarock:  :huepfenjump3:  :P

So it must be true that the YELLOW CVO ROAD GLIDES are the FASTEST!!!

I've had a few Harley's but this is my 1st road glide and it's a Screaming Eagle Road Glide. I really like this 09 Star Dust Silver I think it's called got it new. Any way the 15 would have to be something really special for me to give up my 09.
By the way my silver bullet is the best color of the 09 colors for that year.

I plan on keeping my Stardust Silver as well or atleast until HD begins putting a 120R (tamed for touring) in the CVO's. Obviously, needs to be a great looking Road Glide 2015 or 2016? full touring. Until then, I'll ride on and enjoy. I will be concerned about the first year or for that matter the 2nd or 3rd year the 120R motor will be in production.

Just thinking about getting a older Road King and making it my bar hopper/town bike and making it a custom sled, and keeping the Road Glide for more 2 up/traveling scoot.

Hope all is good!

 8)    UPDATE   While at the Thunder Beach rally in Panama City Beach I decided to let Pete at
Soundz Customz install a level IV stereo upgrade that includes a 250 watt ARC amp and Focal
speakers. WOW  what a difference !!!  I have been researching and listening to several systems
and I can really recommend Pete and his systems.
So Im keeping mine and watch for update this winter when I add lower speakers.

Agree with the masses here.  The '09s are special bikes.  Like others, mine has a lot of mods which in my opinion keeps it a step ahead the new ones...for me anyway.  I still get compliments all the time and folks (even at 32k mi) ask if it's new.  I rode a '14 Street Glide at a recent demo - the bike was solid and smooth and I did like the touch screen set-up (although folks here are saying there are some bugs in it) but not enough to make me want to part with mine.

Cheers,

Silvr

I'm hanging on to my Silver Bullet.
I go to the Demo Days at the local HD dealer every year and haven't ridden anything that compares.
Like others on this thread I keep getting asked if it's a new bike.  Folks are shocked when I tell them it's an '09.

Bought mine thinking I'd keep it for 10 or 20 years ... not much has changed

Even thought about getting a Glass Door Mausoleum* to park it next to my dead body and people could visit my grave and check out my FLTRSE3 through the bullet proof glass door- maybe having some Dead music playing continuous would be a nice touch !

Agreed - people think it's brand new & a custom - timeless lines & killer paint & graphics scheme !

*A mausoleum is an external free-standing building constructed as a monument enclosing the interment space or burial chamber of a deceased person (and his favorite bike)

I to for sure am going to keep mine.  Always get lots of compliments and comments on the 09 Orange and Black FLTRSE.  As for the Yellow and Stardust, those two are great colors and being that Mother Harley only made a Limited number for each.  We all still stand out in the crowds.  I say it will take a lot for me to think or be moved to let mine go!

It's so cool to see how much us 09" CVO Road Glide folks really feel about on rides (NOT that other model folks don't )

My motor was making some noise and I made sure that my wrench at the dealership made notes every time I came in and have it documented.

What's crazy is we both we're thinking it was lifters! As it turns out, it was the oil pump and cam support plate that was damaged.

Long story short: ESP covered the work, upgraded to the new Screaming Eagle Billet support plate and high volume oil Pump, Screaming Eagle High capicty lifters, Screaming Eagle High Preformace inner cam bearings and others small items. (Had to pay the difference for the upgrade)

My bike is still under extended warranty till May of 2016. I know I could have added aftermarket parts, but my dealer is good to me and still wanted to take advantage of my warranty till then.

Good news is while my wrench was in there, I finally made the upgrade to Steve's Stage II Sleeper kit from Fullsac!!!!!  :bananarock:

Didn't ride long, but man what a difference! should of done this a long time of go. Maybe next winter I will clean up the heads some, and add a new HPI 55 throttle body!

Can't wait to get on it this weekend!

I'm keeping this ole 2009 scooter. It's iust like a good wine, it gets better with age!   ;D  :P 8)

One of the best looking touring bikes ever made by HD.  Unfortunately, I am not doing long road trips anymore so I did in fact sell it.  I have replaced it with a 2013 CVO Road King  anniversary model.  Trying to get used to the funky lowers.  Might end up taking them off and forgo the front speakers.

I might try a trike to just see how they are.  My silver/titanium '09 is only at 14,000 miles, and rather than sell it, might look at cost of customizing to a trike.  It would look pretty awesome if the painting was done right.

I do like the 2010 as well but again $30K is way to much for the bike i will wait done the road if i get a good deal but for now, i am loving it and i love my 03 Anniversary as well so i got best of two.

Now that the "new" face lift has been out for a while for the 2015 Road Glides. Both in the standard, Special, and CVO Ultra.

I beg to ask the question again.

Those that have a 2009 CVO SCREAMIN EAGLE Road Glide, are you moving up and out of this wonderful model?

Once again, I HAVE NO PLANS to let my mine go!

It's truly been a blessed and wonderful motorcycle to me!!! Not to mention the dang prices and no CVO Road Glide out except the CVO Ultra.

Keeping my 09 too. I have yet to find one that compares with style and my general overall taste in details.

Might change the bags to a newer style stretch bag, but love my 09...Esp with my new TP...

I'll admit,  I havent been the least bit tempted until this year and seeing the maroon CVO RG.  But then I think of letting my non ultra SERG go and the thought quickly vanishes.   Long live the SERG3!!

I really like the new CVO RG, but come on, $39,000?  It's got to stop somewhere.  I know I've spent that much on my Yellow, to put on TP, etc., but now the prices on CVO's are crazy.  I would buy a 103 RG, but it isn't offered in the Ultra, and I don't want to piece it all together again.  I guess I'm going to dump another couple grand in Yellow this winter.  Tires, compensator, clutch, maybe new headlights. Have 49,000 miles on her, guess I'll keep rolling.

I feel we have the BEST of both worlds.

Hot Rod BAGGER looks in stock forum. And since most of us have a tourpak added on, we have the Ultimate touring rig!

Not to mention, last of the "Hand built" bikes, SCREAMIN EAGLE head on fairing, etc. etc.

This is the dilemma I face. I have not been on the bike since June 2014. My wife had knee replacement and is unable to ride, and I've just lost interest in riding. Yet, I can't make myself put it up for sale......

I see yer dilemma, I haven't ridden as much as in years past cause of issues myself. I enjoy tinkering and polishing the damn thing and when I do ride I understand why I have them. I hope yer passion for riding returns and for the wife to enjoy it again too. Keep the bike and hang her on the wall just cause they're so purty. Hope to see ya on the road soon.

My 2009 SERG is a keeper. I can't imagine what HD could come up with that would be any better as compared to mine, with all the mods I've done.

Speaking of mods I've done, I also can't imagine doing it all over again on another bike- makes no sense IMO.

I'd keep it and when and IF the love affair with the bike dwindles... I'd hot rod it keeping stock colors!!!!

I think that the 2009's were the last year that they can truly be called a CVO. After that they just became a fancier trim line.

When I look at my 2009 yellow SERG it still takes my breath away. No better color or model.

How much do you want for the chopped? And is it just the tour pak or mount as well?

Just got my Rig back home and Safe after being away for about 7 weeks!

EVERYTHING new inside motor! Cranks sent to DarkHorse, trued, balanced, plugged, welded, SE Timken bearing, AV&V 600" springs, GMR lifters & 577 cams, clutch, SE Comp., etc. etc.

The only thing I didn't do is P&P the Heads! I know that I could of done this at the same time, but I was on a budget. I will do it next winter, as well as Cleaning up the 58 TB too.

I know getting Head work & Throttle body work would have made a BIG difference. But all I can say is WOW!!!!

And by the way, I did add these to the build too! My wrench who did the motor work added the new plates, but as soon as I came home, I put the old ones back on.

So with all said and done, "Are you keeping your 2009 CVO SCREAMIN' EAGLE ROAD GLIDE FLTRSE?"

Just so you know, the Dyna Switchback is now discontinued.  Possibly a Deluxe will be your next option.  :nixweiss:

The MoCo no longer make the Switchback, Sportster Seventy-Two, Fat Boy Low and EG Ultra Classic Low.  In October of this year that last V-Rod will roll off the line as well.

That certainly is a beautiful RG she has had and I'm sure it is tough for her to give it up.  Best of luck finding the perfect replacement for her.  Good to hear she is continuing to ride though.

From what I read on this site, 2009 was the last year the CVO's were so-called hand built. Well my 2009 FLTRSE3 with 83,693 miles had a lifter exploded down in the bottom of the rear cylinder; tore up the engine case; flywheel is no longer free wheeling; valves are scarred up; cams and cam plate damaged. My point is yes, I am going to have a complete and total motor rebuild per Service Manager and of course that will be done by hand. All this will be done on my second ESP which has 26 months remaining.

My YELLOWBIRD is still a keeper!!!!

This past winter, I finally got my headwork done by Don @ HD Street Performance, swapped out my Fullsac "D" pipe for a Drago's Dracula II 2-1 with Falsely left pipe. (OHIO PHIL, I finally did it)

I still get compliments and asked if its brand new everywhere I go.

What's even better is, my bro has a 2015 RGS with a S&S 124" LC and old YELLOWBIRD still gets his feathers all ruffled up!!! Lol    :P :'( :P :'(

These 117" SE kits should have been stock on our 110"s.

Hey YB,

I'ts funny you should ask! I just got it state inspected this week & yesterday was the first day I road it this year, I installed a set of Ohlins 159's and then took it for a 150 mile stretch and beat the snot out of it  :coolblue:  This year I have been riding a Dyna FatBob I purchased last year and over the winter did a S&S 107 top end, R&R stage 4 heads & a 600 lift cam, fun little screamer, but my RG started calling out to me I think he's getting a little jealous LOL

Boy, for the last 8 yrs I've looked at the CVO Road Glides and I just can't find anything that would make me want to buy a new one.  Sure, it would be nice to have a new motor. But I rode one and with the engine work I've had done, it runs better than the new 107's.  Can't speak to the new 117's.  And the colors/trim just haven't done anything for me------for 7 yrs.  I'm a chrome guy and now they have eliminated chrome. So I don't forsee me buying a new bike, probably ever.  I can rebuild the motor a few times if I need to and still have the best CVO Road Glide they ever made.

So I don't forsee me buying a new bike, probably ever.  I can rebuild the motor a few times if I need to and still have the best CVO Road Glide they ever made.

It may be bad for you Indenial but it's good for me to hear someone think and feel exactly like I do.  FLTRISE3 :2vrolijk_21:

I was at the Pilgrim Rd. plant over the weekend and H-D was offering test rides on their entire 2018 line up. The only one I rode was a 2018 CVO Road Glide. I own a 09 CVO Road Glide and am lovin' it. I bought it for $19,000 a few months ago and just for a grin I rode the '18. At $41,000 and change there is no way in the world I would be able to part with another $22,000 for another motorcycle that in no freekin' way is worth that much more jing over what I own now.

Heck I just got mine and it's not going no where. My 2016 RGU is stationed in the rear of the garage, and I plan on keeping it in that order for quite some time.
