Hit by Unlicensed Driver
« on: June 02, 2009, 10:47:44 AM »

My son and I rode in the Freedom Run held on Sunday, May 31st (Hackensack, NJ to Ground Zero NYC, and then to Liberty State Park). He broke off from our group a little early to head home, while my wife and I stayed with our group of riders. On our way home we passed what appeared to be my son's bike on the back of a flat bed wrecker (we only got a quick glance at it). My cell phone was ringing so we pulled off the road to check who was calling. We were relieved to see it was our daughter, only to find that she was calling to say that our son had been hit by a car, and was heading by ambulance to the hospital. She had no other info. We raced home picked up the car and headed to the hospital expecting the worse. When we arrived we were blessed to find that he was almost unscathed (sprained right foot, and hair line fracture of right elbow). We later found out that he had been hit by a woman who ran a stoplight. (no license, no registration, no current insurance) police ticketed her for all including careless driving. I finally got to see the bike (1995 FXSTS) yesterday - bike was wreck. Still amazed he walked away from it.

P.S. After he was hit and downed, he could not get up since his leg was pinned under the bike. Nearly 20 cars did nothing more than ride around him.

The whole thing sux except the fact of his relatively minor injuries. Bikes can be replaced, son's can not. Best of luck to him on a quick heal.

Speedy recovery for the minor injuries, hate to hear of these accidents and then of the deadbeats that are in the cages.

Sorry to hear about the accident, my uncle once had a heart attack in busy traffic, fell out of his truck while the guy behind him honked and called him a drunk. Luckily he got back in and drove to hospital. People are in to big of a hurry to think maybe this person needs help. Hope he recovers quickly.

Glad he's OK...

I went down Thursday on my KLR riding to work, bike laying in the road, my helmet off sitting on the side of the road with blood running down my leg and had folks drive right by me, messed up what America is coming to.

Sorry to hear about your son, but I am glad he is ok.  I too live in Jersey and work in NY.  Sometime the people can be ___holes, it seem like a different world at times.  But I must admit, it is getting better.
