Title: 2011 SESG - Adding Apes with dash mounted GPS
Post by: FAST380 on October 24, 2016, 09:40:39 PM
Hey there, I have WO575's now, but want to put some taller handlebars on.... thinking 12's. Does anybody have 12" bars with a dash mounted GPS? Does it clear? any issues?

Can you post a picture or 2 showing your bars with the GPS....

Thanks!!

This is a close shot, the wall prevented me from getting any farther away.

I have 12in wild ones on my 2010 ultra with the 660. It does clear but you will have to roll the bars back away from the GPS to get it to work. there are no visibility problems from the riders seat. its just a mount and un-mount issue. I can see if I can get some pictures of it this weekend if no one else chimes in.

Thanks that would be appreciated. I would like to see a side angle and how much you have to roll the bars back. Do you have a dash pad? That would add a little thickness to it.

I had a 665 dash mounted on my 2010 SEUC, then added cyclesmith 16 in apes, using the Garmin was a major pia. Reaching around to the bars to touch the screen of see something clearly was not easy. The Nav worked fine since it was plumbed into th e speakers, I didn't need to see the screen all the time. I've since traded, and mounted the 665 to the 14 in Money bars, instead of the dash. I couldn't find any old pics, sorry

Hi Fast380 sorry about the delay in response, and crappy cell photo pics. the first couple are of the mount w/cover to bars, windshield to inboard side of mount and a few with gps installed to bars and a view from the seat. mostly its only a pain when trying to change something on the gps with it mounted, a pain but not impossible, I usually rest the palm of the my hand on the bar and punch it with one finger, kinda awkward at first but its normal now. I also installed the kit to make it talk though the bike's speakers since it was not factory installed on the 10's.

Thanks for all the pictures!! It is always hard to tell in pictures, but it looks like mine is mounted a little more to the right, which will help a little, also I don't have the dash pad, which will help a little. What bars are you running? 12"? What you have is right about what I want to go to.

Thanks, are you happy with them? My bars now or 34 inches wide, I wish they didn't get so wide as they got tall, I do a lot of lane splitting.

I had basically the same bars 12.5"up and 36 wide on my 03 road king so the width doesn't bother me. I wish I had gone with the 14in bars instead on my ultra but its just a me, was looking for the same feel and hand height as I had on my RK but didn't account for the frame change and touring seat difference on the 10 when I ordered the 12.5. I agree on wishing they were 34 wide but I have been riding with them RK included since 04/05 so narrower bars feel odd to me. Can't comment on the lane splitting feel, but I have Pegs and heal rest on my crash bars the are wider by a little bit that my bars.
