Recommendation for single DIN touchscreen head unit

Looking for straight, simple advice, based on others' experiences.

I want to install a Single DIN head unit with a retractable touchscreen, Nav & Bluetooth on my 2011 CVO Street Glide. Looking for suggestions.

Question 2: any installation pitfalls or warnings?

FYI- I've explored all options including replacing inner fairing to accommodate a double DIN or iPad.  I've decided for my setup, single DIN is best option.

BTW, also want a unit w "steering wheel control" capability so I can use handlebar switches.

 Cyco, give Pete at Soundz Customz a call 605-274-3535, he will give you the skinny on any of your stereo questions. He will probably tell you to stay away from the flip screens because of durability issues. I will be able to let you know how the newest Sony does by the end of the month, having Pete install one during Thunder Beach. Something like it may be an option if you have a smart phone. They now have blue tooth and interface with smart phone apps (like google maps) to give you lots of options/capabilities but won't break the bank.  :drink: Cheers, Murph

Brad I ran a Pioneer flip screen in my 01 for close to 11 years with no issues. I made a wet weather cover early on for the heavy rain and when washing the bike. On the occasion I'd get some moisture in the radio face I'd simply let it sit and dry. I am out of the loop on the current single DIN flip screens however I am sure they are all decent. While comparing units look in to the amount of screen adjustment each one has. This may not be an issue on the batwing bikes like it is on the roadies. Handlebar controls is a breeze regardless of units. Biketronics hooked me up with my Pioneer and Pete from Soundz took care of my current Kenwood. I went with Kenwood this time simply for the Garmin navigation. I have a Pioneer in the vette which works well, just like the Garmin nav better.

Thx guys. Pete did my whole system and you are correct, he doesn't like the flip up screens.  But I'm going to try it anyway. What Sony unit are you going with?

Mike, what wiring do I need to run the handlebar controls?  Is it the one from eglide Goodies?  Also, don't I need something to bypass the ebrake switch so the screen will work?

Pete can hook you up. They use the PAC module like what you would use in an auto to allow the steering wheel controls to work.

Pete says he should have the Sony MEX-GS610BT in stock before Thunder Beach at the end of April. Not a flip screen but voice controlled via Bluetooth for apps including Google or Apple maps, texting, phone calls, playlists, stations etc. Murph

Pete is against the flip-out units but is a pro and will give the customer what he wants. He hooked me up with the harness for a CVO to include a pre programmed PAC-SWI unit to retain the handlebar controls for my Clarion NZ-503. I loves the outcome and the only thing that gave me a problem was my stock CVO windshield (road glide). Went with a Klockwerks to solve that issue. Other than that, no problems.

I had to do the same thing, goof with different windshields so my flip out screen would clear on my 01.

You can order what you need from him. Find a head unit than tell him what one you have so he can build the control box for you. That is what I did with the new radio.

Sounds like a good plan. I'll call Pete after I find the head unit I want.  Maybe I'll even go 3 speakers in the bag lids...I saw a nice set sittin in Joe's paint shop.  He said they belonged to some guy named Rich....hehehe.
