Which CVO should I get?
« on: June 05, 2010, 08:27:09 AM »

I am looking at 2 bikes....a 2003 Harley Davidson Screamin' Eagle Deuce 100th Anniversary Edition and a 2008 H-D Screamin' Eagle Springer 105th Anniversary Edition.

The 2003 is a Deuce and is used with about 600 miles.  The 2008 is a Springer and is new with H-D warranty and 50 miles.  The 2008 has the 6th gear.

Any thoughts about the ride on both bikes and which one is more fun to ride?

I think you should go with whichever one you want and like.  Couple things to consider.  The 08 still being new will have the factory warranty, the 03 won't.  The 08 has the 110 engine the 03 the 95.  Color...you get the 100th Anniversary color, or the 105th Anniversary color...toss-up as both are anniversary models.  Both are soft tails, so the ride from that perspective should be the same.  Basically boils down to whether you want the springer front end or not, and the looks, and cost and what you feel you're willing to spend.   I know which way I'd go.  ;)

I have ridden a Deuce, but not the Springer....have heard the Springer is firmer and doesn't not the travel that the Deuce has.

I like both colors on the bikes.

As you said, one has a full warranty and the other doesn't.

Then there is the price, about $8K to $10k difference between the 2 bikes.

Would be a no brainer for me but you have to ask your self what's going to make you happy in the end Color Motor and Warranty and of course Cost

Come on guys, you are killing me LOL.....which one would you choose and why?

I like both bikes and are leaning more to the Deuce.  Also, the Deuce is 50 miles away and the Springer is 1200 miles away which they will ship.

I'd go with the Springer.......still just a little ride home but it is a bit longer.  Would make for a great two day ride and extended warranty is still possable. :2vrolijk_21:

SPRINGER!!!
If you enjoy "feeling" what your ride is doing in relation to the road, get the Springer. The other bikes feel "squishy" to me after riding the Springer.
My wife traded a Deuce after a year and only 8,000 miles for an '08 CVO Springer and has not regretted the trade one bit. She actually really liked the Deuce,
but loves the Springer!!

From what i have read on this site most Deuce have remained low mileage, so what does that tell you!
Deuce is just one of those models (like the rocker and roadglide) that you either love them or hate them, I dont see many Deuce models around on the streets so I guess they generally were not very popular.

My biased choice is the Springer but i am not hot for your color choice, generally the 105th didnt appeal to me but thats just my opinion.
The Springers are much more revered and you will enjoy all of the attention it gets.

I am curious why the Deuce has 2 rotors on the front wheel and the Springer only has 1 rotor?  I have also heard the '09 Springer has an improved front brake and wondered if the improved brake on the '09 could fit the '08?

I have twin discs on my old dyna but have never been overly happy with there braking performance, the braking power from the lever is obviously halved to two discs rather than full power on one disc, changing out the rubber hoses for braided helped a little but i am still not happy,

i also have an 07 springer and am perfectly happy and accept the limitations of the front brake, its quite easy to bottom out the front suspension under full braking so what more could you ask for.

I cant answer your question between 08 and 09, do a search in the springer section of this site, there are plenty of threads dealing with springers, look here

if you have to ask someone else...

I can't afford a stable of bikes, but my springer is the ride of my lifetime. Ride your way...

there are those that buy a springer for looks & regret it later, then those of us that are just born to ride a springer. :coolblue:

I had an 05 roadking I loved and traded it off have regretted every day since. Loved that bike :-\

Now that is funny........neither of these bikes were intended for long distance........I have a 2003 CVO Deuce and that bike would kill me on a long distance trip.

long distance on that bike is considered by me anything over 200 miles.

Springer is worse....

Great looking bikes, but really just "Bar Hoppers" though.   IMHO

That Deuce is the last bike I will ever buy on just appearance.

More power to you.........I would ride for 300 miles and the first Honda Dealer I came to I would trade it in on a Goldwing.

Not spending 600 miles on a Deuce in one day ever.........I have choices

and a bleeding ass is not one of them........

While I tend to keep my bikes for quite a while some consideration is still in order regarding resale.  The deuce has been discontinued and as others have said they don't see many on the road.  But springers have a loyal following.  I'm just saying.

I would buy the Springer, no question! Rode my buddies,it was great. It's newer, bigger motor, extra gear, more going for it IMO. One other thought, in about 3 years the 03 will be 10 years old. Trust me, resale value on older bikes has gone way down. But maybe neither one of these two bikes are your dream bike or you would not have to have a poll. You will know it when you see it!!!!! :bananarock:

For me the decision would be the test ride. I have ridden the Springer and would go that way but not before test riding the Deuce! Looks would be a second choice if a tie breaker.

I currently don 't have a bike, but my last few bikes were Honda Goldwings.  I was wanting to get away from the saddlebags and dresser items and more to a basic bike.  Will be riding solo most of the time.  No long trips, just local and short day trips maybe.

I am now looking at the 2009 CVO Softail Springers (NEW only).  The dealer that still has the 2008 bike just will not come off MSRP...go figure with these hard times.  I kind of like the yellow color....

If you like yellow, you may want to consider Gary's bike:  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=49100.0

It's not a Springer, but the price is right.   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Here's an anniversary Springer that just showed up on eBay:

It's a car dealer, so I'm sure the bike could be bought with a phone call...

He must have been booking an '09 when he placed a starting bid of $21,600 ..... 'bout an 18.5 bike.  Maybe he thinks the non-existent add on for an "anniversary" model may catch some ebayer ....

Almost there....I finally found a dealer that has a NEW 2008 FXSTSSE CVO Screamin' Eagle Softail Springer, 105th Anniversary Edition.....the bike I have been searching for.

I still have not found a dealer in my area that has one to demo a Springer. I have demo'd the Softail Fatboy and Heritage Classic, the Fatboy just doesn't fit me where as the Heritage Classic does. I don't know if I could stand the forward controls for a long ride and the floorboards offer several positions.

I only have money for ONE bike (sadly) and would like to make the correct choice. I have come from a Honda GW and want to loose the dresser look. I can take the saddlebags off the Heritage Classic and put on a solo seat and bib.

The '08 doesn't have the catalytic converters where the 2010 does and I am wondering about the added heat.  I also like the '09 CVO Springer for the added changes they made from '08 to '09.

Decisions, decisions, decisions!!!

My concern is the ride and drive.  The longest day trip will about 300 miles, I just don't want to pull the wrong trigger!
