Mr. Wizard.. 05 FLSTFSE vs. 10 FLSTSE
« on: February 15, 2010, 10:37:51 PM »

I was just wondering if you could describe for me how these two bike compare. It's always nice to here from someone that owns both when it comes to comparison. I consider the two bike to be very close and considered getting an 05-06 SE Fatboy before the 10 FLSTSE came out.

Pros: 05 SEFB  is an extremely cool bike. All the paint jobs are one of a kind due to the metal grinding. The 103 stock with a little tuning and pipes will pull very good even surprise you how peppy it is. The look is very classic. This bike is light and very nimble, handles like a dream. A blast to ride. When you include the throttle response and loud headers it becomes an "attitude lounge chair". "Yeah, that's right, move over I'm coming through". "Look at it Mr. Cager, you can only dream you look this good you wimp".... kind of thing

Cons: The seat is hard as a rock with 1/2" padding on a metal pan solo seat from HD. Back tire is too thin, classic, but visually too thin to be a "FatBoy". If you don't know your HD bikes the only way to tell it is a FatBoy is to look at the wheels and rear fender.

Pros: 2010 SEConV is just more. More than a Fatboy, more than a Heritage, more than a 'luxe or any other softail. It's every softail rolled into one package with the opportunity to dress up or down depending on your ride and mood-of-the-day. The 110 has plenty of pop and pep on this bike. Like the SEFB, a good tune and pipes will give her an attitude but this bike is not a lounge chair bike. You will sit a bit more upright. It combines comfort and power with a nice trimming of new technology. Paint is well done, very clean lines and the old SEFB metal grinding is back. It out weighs the SEFB and has the 200 rear tire, now that's HD classic FAT! Just a pleasure to ride behind and see this bike, more of a pleasure to ride it yourself. The wheels are over the top and make this bike a real head turner with attitude. The seat is very comfortable for a long ride and the bike is a dream to handle. You will get used to scraping the boards, it is what it is, they just stick out more so than usual. It's a wide footboard.

Cons: The bike is so new the mods are hard to find. Unless you already know that the Heritage pipes seem to be identical to this bike you wouldn't have a clue looking up a new pipe that says it will fit this bike. The new digital speedo is really not a con; but seems to be in interference with the tuner reading the ECM. Tuner manufacturers are working on a software fix. The fairing/shield is a throwback to the Buel. It's Fugly and inefficient. This is my main dislike about the bike. Luckily the FatBoy shield fits just fine. Now all of you that like this faring don't jump on me... I have my opinion too. I don't and never did like it from day one.

If you have the 05/06 SEFB you will love this new SEConV. Although the SEFB is a little more nimble the SEConV makes up for it on a longer ride and looks.

I have not heard anything about this could you elaborate. I am not sure what you are talking about.

Thanks

The PCV, being an add on, shouldn't interfere with your speedo I would think. This issue should be localized to downloads with the ECM or the replacement of the ECM with an aftermarket.

Keep us updated on how the PCV works for you.

Mr. Wizard - I love your description of the FLSTSE. Makes me want to get out and ride mine. I would brave the cold if I could get over the mountain of snow blocking my driveway...

Great comparison!!!!

I haven't seen a Convert at dealership yet. Looking forward to seeing the '11 paint job, they always seem to get fancier the 2nd year.

They have an orange one at my local dealership. I have looked at it, sit on it, slobbered over it.  I absolutely love it.  I would never get rid of my Road King and I just can't justify another 30K motorcycle.  If I could get my wife to ride it, I would be all over it.  She does think it's pretty.  I'm thinking in about 2 or 3 years I would hope to be able to find a nice low mileage one for less dollars.

Just an assumption on my part. I assume they always do 2 yrs min on a CVO model to get the volume up on unique parts to bring up the profit margin.
