Title: Throttle
Post by: muddypaws on May 19, 2011, 07:37:40 AM
On my 2009 the throttle is not snapping back when let go. Has anyone had one apart and what could cause this?

My 2008 had that problem when new.  Dealer reported it was a lubrication issue.  Has not recurred.  Don't know the internals of what they lubricated.

Isn't that still one of the items on those every 5000 mile service checklists?  No cable to lube, but I imagine the grip still needs to be inspected/lubed/whatever. :nixweiss:

Had similar issue within 300 miles. Dealer adjusted the throttle at the clamp. Been fine ever since.

If this doesn't work, slide the grip off and see if the plastic gearteeth mechanism in the throttle controller assy rotates freely.  If it does, I would lube the gears with light grease (between the handgrip and throttle controller)??

Removing the grip is easier than it sounds as you have to use needle nose pliers, a flashlight, and 20 year old eyes to plug the heated grip sensor wire back in the grip when reinstalling the grip.

It appears that the grip has become detached from the heated part. The glue let go. Has anyone had this problem? Can I use high temp glue to put it back? The new grip is $240.
