Just bought a 2016 CVO Street Glide. When I shut it off I hit the kill switch and then I turn what I used to call the ignition switch, which is now just considered the fork lock switch to the center position. On restart, I turn the fork lock switch clockwise to the unlock fork position, turn the off / on handlebar switch to run position and then hit the start button, is this the correct sequence ? Or can the fork lock switch just be left in unlocked position and just use the kill switch and start button.

Your procedure is correct and yes, you can leave the fork lock switch in the unlocked position.

It depends when and where I am parking and leaving my bike.

Having had one stolen while in a parking lot years ago, the only time I leave mine unlocked is in my garage.

I use the same start up method every time..Just like JONNIEROCK does. I lock my bike up everywhere. Even in the garage...I still do even if I can see it. 8)

That was not your original question. Your CVO is not cheap and you don't want to lose it. I lock my fork, bags and trunk every time I walk away from the bike.
Especially for the bigger bikes, it is better to unlock your fork before you stand the bike up. You'll find threads here bye guys who dropped the bike because they could not turn the fork after standing it up.

I only use the kill switch unless I'm locking the forks.

There is no electrical connections to the fork lock. Lock it if you like. Mine gives grief unlocking with the button about 70 percent of the time and half the time with the key. For what it's worth a large screw driver and hammer will disable it. A disc lock is a better deterrent. Still useless when four fellows with two boards pick it up and slide it in trailer to pull away, bitching the entire time about the piece of chit that won't start....true theft story.

Same here (add to that w/putting the fork in the lock position I also key lock it in that positon, and lock the saddlebags other than when it's parked inside @ home). Along w/that when I'm out riding I activate the alarm system which includes the use (turning on) of my H-D Alarm Pager... and when traveling I also use a disc lock on the front wheel.

If I am anyway other than home everything is locked when I leave the bike. In my garage it is unlocked unless I am out of town then I lock it and take the FOBs with me.

unlocked in the garage (quick get away hahaha)
full lock down everywhere else with some minor exceptions.

retard timer, open throttle full full choke, 2 kicks close throttle open choke then 2 clicks choked, turn key 1 kick advance timing choke off go for a ride :pepper:

:2vrolijk_21: The fork lock is not something that would slow down a serious thief. The "four big guys with a van or pickup truck" method is popular pretty much everywhere. For the amateur thieves, as you said a heavy duty locking cable is a better idea that is harder to defeat than a Harley fork lock that just gives people a false sense of security. I've known several people here locally over the past 20 years who had their bikes stolen with the forks locked.

I heard a new way that thieves steal bikes at motels when I drove out to Upper Michigan 2 years ago.
I lock my bike up at night and I also use a rotor lock and a tether up to the handle bar. I stopped at an independent motorcycle shop and mentioned that I lock the bike when I leave it and particularly at the motel. The owner of the shop said thieves out that way had used an old mattress with straps sewn on it and then they tip the bike onto the mattress and then they pull it into a small enclosed trailer and it takes about a minute.
He said the best way to help avoid thieves was to chain the front wheel to a post or solid object and put a Honda cover over it.

I have NEVER even tried to turn the fork lock since having the bike. A previous bike had a sticky fork lock/ignition and I was stranded once because of it. Drives the wife nuts as she is a lock it up person. I do as quoted, hit the off button then the locks on the fob to secure the bags and tour pak, and have good insurance.

Y'all understand that a hammer tap on the handle of a flat screw driver turns the "nuts" used by HD from outside the bike to easily steal the bags, Right?
