2011 Tybee Island Pirate Fest | 2012 Beach Bum Parade

Tybee means “salt” to Native Americans, but the name if this low-key seaside resort now brings to mind words such as “sun”, “surf”, “fun” and the Tybee Island Pirate Fest.

Tybee Island is located ~ 18 miles from Savannah, GA and is a small barrier island with a 3mile wide beach, backed by sea oats and sand dunes.

A number of years ago Tybee reconstructed a pier that resembles one that existed in the early 1900’s.

Today’s weather presented high winds, high surf advisory and a rip current in the Atlantic Ocean.  All of that being stated that did not damper the spirits of the Pirates!

Tybee Island limits the amount of commercial property available in front of the beach…one of the few hotels across from the beach.
