Softail frames, are they all the same?
« on: August 12, 2014, 12:02:28 AM »

Just curious about if all ST frames are built the same way. There are different models and it looks to me like they have the same frames with different bolt ons. Pondering about modding my 2007 Custom to look more like a Breakout or maybe going the opposite direction and adding full fenders. May never due either but if I do then I'll save all of the original take off parts. Might even consider building a CVO Custom since it already has a ton of chrome. Change out the wheels etc.

yes they are the same finders triple tree seat tires rimes ect are different but it would be cheaper just to buy the one that looks close to what you are after and modify that one

Depends on the year, the 14 model year has different frame part numbers for the FX softails and the FL Softails. These both list a -11 part number so assume they are the same since then. I checked the 07 parts manual and it shows three different frames.

Probably so. Not sure how it would look with bagger fenders and small tubes. Probably like a FXSTC with odd looking fenders.  ;D Thanks.

Thanks for looking into it Jim. Much appreciated. Don't want to tear up the original sheet metal and I found a good place for repops so I can do  custom paint. Really like the way it looks now but always looking at mod options.
