Saddle bag matching paint???
« on: November 22, 2007, 09:28:36 AM »

I have the 2004 B/B.  Right saddle bag was scratched in a parking lot full of bikes at Myrtle Beach.  I had a local PPG guy shoot it and paint it, but it is a little to black (the blue was not scrtached).  No one around here seems able to match it.  Does anyone know a person that can.  I just hate to buy a 1100.00 bag when nothing is wrong with mine, but the paint.  I'm at area code 29349 in Upstate SC.   Will the MOCO repaint if I send back?  Any other Ideas?  Thanks Guys......

First, I'd hunt the f*(king a-hole that did it and make sure the he is as black and blue as your bike!  Then I contact the dealership and see if they have any good painters, using the a-holes credit card too!  Then just watch ebay for one to pop up, they are frequently on there.  Good luck and happy hunting!

Darrell doesn't post enough on here, anymore.  Remember, he's the one that designed and had made those ten sets of lower leg fairing doors that were padded leather that look so trick.  I had a pair of those first ten............till I had my accident.  Nothing else comes close to what he had made.

If you have great difficulty finding a paint code contact one of a couple of users here.  Either DCFireman or Dean Nelson.  Both have sprayed those colors before and spoke of having excellent matches.

I'm not sure where 29349 is in the Upstate but Chip is in Charlotte. He may know of someone. If it were mine I'd contact the guy in FL. Sinclair is his name. He did Hogasm's bike. I have his # if you PM me.

I know two painters

one's painting the tank on the thunder mountain keystone I got rid of (yes the keystone is sitting in the car garage taking up room)

Both are great

Happy Thanksgiving AJ and Susan and everybody else!

Thanks for the reply.  We are still working on it..I have a guy in Easley who is working on it now.  He has had it for about a month.  I talked with a friend of mine at Cheerokee Trikes and they had done a B/B trike conversion and painted it.    I personally feel like it still will not match.  It always comes back too black...I think the cobalt has to be layed down first, but I'm no painter.  I'm on my second excellent painter now, but to no avail....any advice would be helpful..

Yes they did both say that their matches were perfect.

I read in one of the motorcycle magazines (back when the blue and black came out) that the paint was a "secreat process with the cobalt blue going down over the vivid black.  I don't know if that was factual but several have had good results after much expermentation as you're learning.
