John can you give us more info on you old bike. I just started reading and studying old bikes and I really enjoy it.
Chris
The bike is a 1956 FLE, which means it is a 74 C.I. motor with a 61 C.I. cam. They did that to police bikes to allow them to work better in traffic.
I got it in Austin Texas in 1982, came with a box of spare parts. It origianlly had a heel/toe clutch and jockeye top tranmission top with a chrome leve with a 8 ball for a shifter. Rode it this way for a year or two, got tried of the setup when stopping on hills and other places where you really needed your left foot to stay upright. Found the mousetrap in the part box so I found a racket top tranmission top at a swap meet and converted to a foot shifter. Hand all the foot shift brackets and stuff in the parts box. Here are a few more pictures.
