Need help with electrical issue.
« on: May 04, 2019, 01:05:54 AM »

On the road with an electrical issue. I need help please.

2006 Ultra. I recently added a Zumo GPS and HogTunes BlueTooth. Per the instructions the Bluetooth was wired to the cig plug for switched power, and the air temp ground. For the gps I used the same wires.

Twice today I blew the fuse for the instruments. I think I am overloading the circuit. I need another source for switched power.

Does anyone know a wire that will work? I would appreciate the color and trace color and where to look for it.

Thanks.

If you can't find a suitable wire/circuit under the fairing you will need to run a good sized wire to the positive side of the battery (that way you have expansion room) then find a good frame ground under the fairing and wire in a new relay for each of the devices or one big enough to handle all.  Then just use the instrument / switched circuit just to trigger the relay.  If you need help let me know.

in the attached pdf it shows two wires near headlamp, see the Routing and connecting the wiring section. Actual wiring diagram shows this to be the wires for HDI headlamp option.

Hope this helps!

If I remember correctly a lot of us were using the fender tip light wire (since it wasn't being used) for a power source for our Zumo's. This is a switched circuit and because our bikes doesn't have the light it was unused.
