Title: Biker/rider friendly stops.
Post by: RedFXR2 on April 19, 2006, 10:17:20 AM
I got this idea from the "Plymouth" post mentioning a good watering hole in Mass.

Mods:  Would it be good to make a thread sticky so people can add suggestions for places like cabbyshacks in their respective states/areas?

Anyway, here's two of my favorite places nearby to my home in South Florida.  If anybody's ever passing through down here they are neat places to take a break and grab a bite to eat/drink.

Some of the better places to stop while on the bike:
ATLANTIC BEACH CLUB (and the BAR across the street) Easton's -Beach, Newport, RI
TOPSIDE - Bristol, RI
FLOs Clam Shack - Portsmouth (Island Park), RI ... No Alcohol, but great Fried Clams

And we all need to go to a Biker Dive every so often...
HENHOUSE - Rt. 105, Assonet, MA
BACH DOOR CAFE - Rt 6 Chaplin, CT

The Topside...

Found one that Diva and I are going to check out for 3 nights the weekend of the 4th....Mountain Brook Motorcycle Resort in Sylva, North Carolina.  Sounds really nice...cabins, 3,000 ft elevation, so it will be cool at night, even that time of year, plus it's close to a bunch of good ridin' and the ride getting there is going to be nice too.  They've got regular cabins, then "Special" cabins with garden tubs, etc.  Front porch swings, fully equipped kitchens...sounds real nice.  I'll post a ride report when we get back from that trip for sure.  It'll be good practice for MV!!!

I know this thread is for places people can stop at. The Hideout in Lake Henshaw outside of Dago advertises as being such, but damned if I know when it's open anymore. Big Daddy, Beags and I stopped by at 2PM today ( Friday) and it was deserted. CVOJOE was down with us awhile back and it was closed on the weekend. Guess they don't need the money anymore. Too bad, it used to be a cool place to stop

17 February 07, 1330 on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. About 30 bikes at the Hideout. Guess what ?  CLOSED  :soapbox:

Advice to anyone riding out through Anza Borrego. Head to the Iron Door. It's damn near always open.

Rosies Den
M.P. 28
HWY 93
Arizona

South of Las Vegas, not much to look at, but an excellent breakfast.  If you pass it heading South, and you probably will as it's in the middle of nowhere, there is a place to safely cross the median about a 1/2 mile down the road.  You'll notice the bikes out front.

I've noticed more and more Motorcycle Resorts popping up, perhaps a list or thread for that would be cool - here;s one by me - great MC only campground open all season ....

Interlochen Michigan - just outside of Traverse City

http://www.cycle-moore.com/ (http://www.cycle-moore.com/)

...BTW a nice event there coming up June 8-10 the annual Great Lakes Harley Round Up. It's an old school round up, mature crowd, no burnout pits or loud music all nite and such, just a nice get together family style. Several guys I know have been going for over 20 years, nice time.

Just discovered this place in our back yard this weekend.  Oh My!  The food is fabulous, the best service we've experienced in years, the atmosphere is eclectic and there are no snobs here, ever.  Millie's Diner -2603 E. MAIN STREET RICHMOND, VIRGINIA 23223 PHONE: (804) 643-5512 http://www.milliesdiner.com/

We found it by accident, we will return regular by design!  The advertisements say that if you have to wait, it is worth it and this is an understatement in our opinion.  For breakfast I had the beef tenderloin, poached eggs, asparagus and hollandaise and Jamey had the Devil's Mess.  Oh My!  Oh My!  It has been years and years, if ever, that I had such a well prepared meal.  Jamey sampled the Bloody Mary and said that was perfect too.  If it had been later in the day, the ample selection of imported beers would have turned our heads.  We may have to make this a dinner destination some day.

For any of you folks going to Laconia. Take Rt 25 back toward Maine into Cornish. It's about 50 miles from Weirs. Bayhaven Seafood Restaurant is where you want to stop. Some of the best downeast seafood to be had in Maine ( yes even counting the places right on the ocean) and the atmosphere is come as you are, whoever you are, no snobbery in Cornish - - ayuh.

Sunday, Anne and I stopped for some  :drink: at Sunset Rib, in Niantic, CT as we cruised the coasts of RI and Southeastern, CT

http://www.sunsetribs.com/

I was there a few years ago and forgot that it was a hot Bike spot.  Definately a thumbs up for waterfront drinking.

Earlier we ate at Skipper's dock in Stonington Borough, CT.  They claim to have The Best Hot Toasted Lobster Sandwich in Town.  I will tell you this...it is HUGE!  They only have valet parking but we were the only bike there so we had a good spot.  The Valet told us when there are a lot of bikes, they line them up down the center of the parking area.  Definately a thumbs up for waterfront dining.

From the IMS website: http://www.motorcycleshows.com/motorcycleshows/Biker-Hangouts-and-Restaurants/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/455210

What better combination than bikers and their hangouts? The destination of the ride is almost as important as the ride itself. The shows make a great destination ride (weather permitting). In those climates where the bikes are tucked away for the winter months, start at your favorite hangout and use four wheels to come to the show. Either way — on two wheels or four wheels — you'll have a great time.

The International Motorcycle Shows would like to recognize those hangouts that have partnered with us this season in spreading the word about the shows. If you don't see your favorite hangout listed below, please contact us at (800) 854-3112 or kwhittington@advanstar.com

But it's getting close to a date/location now. Prolly 5/8-5/11 in Eureka Springs, AR. Not carved in stone yet, but that seems to be good with others so far. Once we firm it up, all the details will come out too!!! Looking forward to meeting you and PM there!!! :2vrolijk_21:

Hey moderators!  Would it be possible to set up a map (like the member map) with all these "biker friendly" stops added to it?  Would really be helpful when planning a trip!
 :nixweiss:

Got a little bored and I decided to give the map request a try...if site members continue to post to this thread or there is a interest I will attempt to keep up with the map.

Hey Jock, that 'link' to the Map would be good to have in a readily accessable place instead of buried in the middle of a thread.  Have you ever spent much time at Station's Inn?  Usually Fri/Sat nights the rooms are gone in advance.  Good/frequent stops thru there for me.  :drink: spyder

I have ridden by it however that was it...On both occasions we where in a time crunch...If this gets any momentum, I thought I would increase the exposure to the map and content...I will give it a couple of days...

I'll check it out on my next visit...the site had some cool content...

I've mentioned it on the site before.  I'm a KCBS certified BBQ judge and I've judged 6 or so events with a couple hundred competitors total.  I can tell you every time I've had Dinosaur ribs they are just about perfect from a judges perspective and they are serving hundreds of pounds a day, not a couple racks cooked with love for a competition.  The original is in Syracuse and ALWAYS has ton of bikes around it.  It most definitely needs to be on the list.  The address is:
246 W. Willow Street
Syracuse, NY 13202

I was visiting a friend in Georgia this past weekend, I unfortunately had to follow him in a cage but we visited the town of Helen Ga for most of the day on Sunday. Whole town styled to look like a hamlet in Germany. But for dinner we rode to a bar in Widder Ga. On Patrick Mill Rd. The place was called Chips. We ordered burgers which are made by hand fresh right in front of us and wings. The wing sauce was outstanding by the way. The burgers had to be close to 3/4 to a 1 pound before cooked. They were huge. And cold icy pint glasses with each pitcher. I was in my own slice of Heaven. There also was entertainment, this guy could play and sing blues, gospel, southern Rock. Just him and a acoustical guitar. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting this part of Ga....................Fuzz :drink:

A bunch of Hollywood lives in the area. There is a air park/landing strip in the area and they can use it. It is normal to run into someone of fame no matter where you go in these hills. Just say hello and slap hands, they are normal people and want to be treated that way. Yes, I did meet Elvis and talk with him! Very insecure person, buy what a voice! I miss him.

Here is a great spot in Virginia Beach Va. - Knuckleheads on Witchduck rd. Next to Southside Harley.
Food is very good and service is great.
