It was, for me, an EPIC solo ride.  A bucket list thing.

Nice write up and an epic journey to cross off your bucket list!
We headed for Prudhoe Bay in 2011, but due to stolen identity by a career criminal, I was not allowed in Canada and almost thrown in jail.
Glad you had a good trip

Yes, it's officially checked off the bucket list.  I had been checking boxes every year, but the AK ride stayed at the top for several years while other things were accomplished.  I'm glad that I finally had the nerve to do it.

I was originally going to ride to Prudhoe Bay, but I learned I can only ride so far as Deadhorse, then take a bus into PB - with 24 hour advanced notice and background check.  I have the southernmost point photo with my bike, and I wanted the northernmost point one....  Not being able to do so, the extra time and aggravation going from Coldfoot to Deadhorse just seemed like riding for bragging rights.  So I didn't. Glad you didn't get put in the pokey in 2011!

Some would say a trip like that was not that epic, but I would say it truly was epic, and the rest of us who'll never do it for one reason or another will live vicariously through your experience, shivering all the way with you through the colder regions!
As an aside, I've looked at the 2015-2016 GS before and it seems like an awesome bike for what you undertook...very capable and robust.  If I was single again, I would consider it as a second bike and then head for parts unknown, perhaps with a small trailer on the back.
I hope you are happy with the new Street Glide.  We've driven other bikes over the years, but keep coming back to Harley's.  Say what you will about them (and we all know there isn't a perfect bike out there), they still have the soul that the other bikes lack.
Good trip report, Joseph!  Thanks for sharing with us!

Congrats on the check box and thanks for the write-up. We were planning this for next year and I did not know tires got all chewed up that quickly up there. Thanks for that tip. Did you happen to stay at the motorcycle camp in Tok? Eagle Claw or something like that.

Don't worry too much about tire wear, if you're taking your Harley.  The BMW R1200GS Adventure I took on this trip is notorious for chewing through tires in 5-7K on US Roads.  I typically get 11-15K out of Dunlops on my Harley in the US.  I'm bad on tires, as I can't keep from rolling hard on the throttle and braking too hard.  Lol.  If I was taking my HD to AK, I would arrange the rack time to have tires changed at the HD dealer in Fairbanks or Anchorage, depending on where I was going.  The dealers there have plenty of stock of typical size tires and makes, but their rack time is booked in advance.
I stayed at Youngs (Fast Eddy's) in Tok.  It was across the parking lot from the restaurant.  I was tired and hungry and ready to be off the bike at that point. They have a typical motel and some cabins that are quite nice - I stayed in the cabin on the way up and back.

Yes, it sure was.  I have lots of great memories for when I'm stuck in my rocking chair, longing to be on two wheels....

:banana rock: Yes, and my body is still recovering.  I'm glad I did the trip and fulfilled a boyhood dream, but it's not something I'm keen to repeat anytime soon.
