HOG Posse Ride
« on: July 10, 2007, 10:32:17 PM »

HQ and I are headed out tomorrow, July 11th, to Wilmington, DE, for the start of the national H.O.G. Posse Ride from there to Portland, Oregon.  We plan to have a great time but are bummed out that this does conflict with the CVO gathering in Nelson.  We'll miss you guys and be thinking of you.

I've started a little blog:  http://sheriffandqueen.blogspot.com/ for those who may have an interest in following our travels.

Keep the shiny shide up and ride and have fun.

Jerry, you and HQ have a great trip.  So glad to hear you have the bike fixed and are on your way.  Will expect a report on the brakes when you return as well...let us know how the trip is going, and be safe.  We will look forward to seeing you after your return.

Take Care,
Terry

Mis amigos......to the people who  already know me and the other who don't........I am very sorry to be absent for 4 months...I don't know why but I am back.....and I take advantage to write a small report of my ride (Posse).

Martha and I left on Thursday 12 from our home. We rode until Florence, SC (610 miles) the first day. On Friday we rode SC, NC and we hit Virgina we went to the East and cross the bay from Portsmouth thru the tunnel (Chasepeake Bay Bridge and tunnel) and get again Virgina and then Maryland and we get into south of Delaware. We stayed in Seaford, DE (south of the state) after 500 miles. On Saturday we headed to Wilmington. On Monday 16 the Posse started and we went to Greensburg, PA. On Tuesday we went to Fort Wayne, IN. The last two hours of the ride (350 miles) were rained. When we got the hotel I was making a turn in the parking lot to park the bike and make the check in and suddenly the bike slide and we went down. The floor of some parts of the parking lot had oil and mixed with rain was very dangeorus.....so as we were the first to get the hotel we paid the consequences. Martha and the bike are fine. I got a real and serious burn in my right left with the exhaust......(I will post some pics of my leg). On Wednesday we headed to Dubuque, IO. On Thrursday to Duluth, MN. This ride was beautiful, the best until now with beautiful scenaries. We stayed on Duluth Thursday and Friday. Today, Saturday we are in Fargo, ND and tomorrow we will be going to Dickinson, ND....the best rides will be next week.......I have ridden almost 3000 miles!! :drink:

I want to say thanks to Dave & Helen, Harry & Michelle, Gary, AJ, Roger, Terry & Suzanne, VGirl and Hoist to be worried about me in these months....I love you guys.......... :-*

My best regards,

Jorge

PS I will post some pics soon. I have to decrease the res.

That is a nasty burn Jorge, but was glad to hear that Martha come out without being hurt.   Does she need any help shopping just call me I am sure I can help  ::)

Have a safe rest of the ride and look forward to hearing from you when you get home.   Actually counting on hearing from you and Martha.   Take care of that leg so it doesn't get infected.

Jorge, you told me nothing about your spill and that nasty burn.  So glad you got it looked after - good advice to go to the hospital to avoid an infection.  Ride safe and I'll see you on the road tomorrow.

Wow Jorge that is a shame you got burned. Glad you both are OK enough to continue the ride. Very nice photos, thanks for sharing them with us.
It's a shame I didn't know you were passing through my area when you went through Portsmouth and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. I would have loved to meet you Jorge and Martha, maybe even ride awhile with you two. But I understand on a 500 mile day you need to ride not socialize.

Jerry and J Carolyn I have enjoyed your pictures and posts here and on your blog. Thanks for sharing the experience with us!  :2vrolijk_21:

If any of you have a chance on this Posse Ride say hello to a tall guy with a grey pony tail riding an 06 Mellon. Very nice guy who hapens to be the Sales manager at Bayside Harley in Portsmouth named Chuck Delaney.

Ride safe, and my thoughts and prayers will be for a safe return for everyone.

Jorge, it's SO good to see you and Martha in the pix and hope to see you again soon in person.   :)  Give my love to Martha.

So sorry to hear of your injury.  Take care.

Oh CHIT! That means Jerry (utrafx) is due for a new rear jug in his 110. We will see if the 110 fix will last more than the original since his was changed right before he left to go on the Posse ride.

No chit.  There we were and the head gasket seems fine.  They did replace the rear jug when they did the head gaskets before we left.  Here we are with Jorge & Martha at the farewell breakfast.

Made it to BC yesterday.  Road almost 400 mile today thru some beautiful mountain roads and just pulled in to Valemount for the night.  Tomorrow heading in to Jasper and thru the Jasper National Park and down to Lake Louise and Banff.  Road trip so far when we pulled in to the motel was exactly 5,600.4 miles.  Have about 3,000 to go before we get back home next week.

Jerry...if you have the time, take the boat trip out on Lake Maligne (sp?)...spectacular!!  The ride from Jasper to Banff is the most beautiful ride you'll ever do.  Side trips are possible to Emerald Lake, Angel Glacier...don't miss Lake Louise and Lake Moraine with the Valley of the Ten Peaks.  Well worth the time/effort, if time allows.  You are in for a real treat, my friend!!

Here is a pix of us up in the mountains.  Beautiful.  Terry, did not have time for the boat ride but did see the lakes and took ski lift / gondola up Lake Louise Glacier ski area.  Awesome view of the ten peaks.

MJZ, I spoke too soon about the rear head gasket.  Did not think it was leaking but couple drops of oil on left side today confirmed that it in fact is.  This is on the replacement rear cyl and head gasket with about 6k on it.  Bummer.  Anyone know if the moco has concluded what the problem is and what the fix is.  In it will have to go when I get back.  Otherwise it is running fine and strong.  No problems there, thank goodness!

Thanks.  Don't forget that I've got a blog going about our little road trip:  http://sheriffandqueen.blogspot.com/

Working my arse off keeping this thing as up to date as I can.  Sounded like a good idea but here it is 11:15 pm after a long day and I'm still on the computer.  Well it'll be worth it when we're back home and can review what I posted about the trip.  And it'll help HQ with here scrapbooking of all the photos so I know I'll be glad I did it.

Great job on the blog. Enjoyed all your pictures. That wind in The Columbia Gorge can pick you off your bike. The locals pray for a east wind (nice calm day) and the wind surfers pray for a west wind, you apparently hit the west wind no fun to ride into. Lolo Pass is nice riding.

CHIT!!! Jerry I really hate to hear what I expected to hear about your engine. It sucks they have no real clue what the problem is so I guess they are just going to rebuild it every 6K miles, as long as it is in warranty. Glad to hear all else is going well and thanks for the updates and pictures. Look forward to hearing all about the trip.

ultrfxr,

Do you tow a trailer with your bike that is painted to match your ride, if so we saw you in York on July 16!!!

Yup, that would be me.  Sorry I missed you.  Tried to catch all the cvo's I could find but know I missed some in the busy goings on.

Got back yesterday about noon time from our road trip - HOG Posse Ride and then return via Canada, 29 days, 8,318 miles.  Whew, glad to be home.

Added a few more "places visited" to the map.

These are all places visited on my motorcycle traveling from my home and back.  No fly & ride, no rentals, no trailering.

If you come up with a Hawaii plan....I will join you...until then...Fly and Ride counts for me!

Bill, you got me there on Hawaii for sure.  Doubt I'll be going to Alaska or the northern Canadian provinces from home either.  Want to get up to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, etc., but anything else will have to be fly & ride, etc.

Don't mean to insinuate that fly & ride does not count.  Just wanted to say that I have not done it.

Gary, glad you were able to follow us along.  I had second thoughts about the blog because some nights I was up way too late getting it done.  But I am glad I did.  Many of our friends here have followed and now I have a great journal to recall what happened when.  Would like to have gotten more detailed but time (and energy) just would not permit more that I did.

I'm thinking Fly and ride to Alaska in Aug 2008...but again, it is just a though and I have done NO Planning!

But if I did ship...I would use the opportunity to ride Yukon Territory, Northwest territory and Nunovit!

JR (the other JR),

Glad to hear that you made it home safe.  I'll have to check out the blog.  Sorry to hear about the problems on the bike.  It got me wondering what I've got to look forward to on the SERK and giving me serious doubts about trading my '06 for the '08 CUSE.
