Street Vibrations 2005
« on: September 25, 2005, 11:42:18 PM »

Just back from the 2005 Street Vibrations and the Western CVO Owners GTG........and all I can say is it was a colorful site.  We did it all......you name it......we did it.

Started out with a relatively large group of mostly SEEGs.  As the day wore on and the stops got longer and longer, we dwindled down to about eight bikes.

We met at the Peppermill......where service really, really sucked (and put us an hour behind schedule right from the start) however, it gave us all a good opportunity to get to know each other.  Once again, I've got to say that I've met some of the greatest bunch of guys from this web site!  Leaving the Peppermill, we headed south on 395 to Freedom Cycles.

Brad Yuhl, owner, addressed the group, giving us his history of drag racing motorcycles and cars since the 70's.  He then went on to explain how they came up with their various "packages" for the various Harleys including the 103".  We also saw the impressive dyno sheet on a stock (other than air cleaner, Power Commander and exhaust) 88" that they just developed.

From Freedom Cycles we wound are way up the moutain to Virginia City.  It's an old mining town from the turn of the century and with the exception of the paved road running down through the middle of it......still looks like it did back then.  We (me, Jim and Chip) walked the length of town (five or six blocks) searching out all the CVO's making sure that everyone had a business card from this site attached to it.  Upon our return trip back down Maint Street, I was able to meet and talk with several of the CVO Owners.  They were not aware of this site and had we not walked up on them, may still not have been aware.  They thought the business cards were a standard Harley Davidson business card.....telling me that we need to make the "for CVO Owners" a lot more prominent on those cards.

Leaving Virginia City, Jim and I took turns rocketing ahead to get some action photos of the group riding through the hills surrounding Virginina City (I'll download and post photos on this thread, tomorrow).  We continued on to our next stop.....the brothels of Carson City, Nevada.  We stopped where the Kit Kat Ranch, Bunny Ranch, Sagebrush Ranch and (can't remember the fourth one) are all located at the end of a deadend road.  Purely for photo opportunities, mind you, we went on in and visited....bought our shirts, etc.  Leaving the Ranches, we passed through the Nevada capitol of Carson City and headed on over the pass to South Lake Tahoe.

As we left Carson City for Lake Tahoe the wind picked up and it became very, very windy.  By the time we got to Lake Tahoe it was totally white caps.....I've never saw it that windy on that lake in my whole life!  We stopped at Mc Donalds for a quick bite and then continued on into California and up with western shore of Tahoe.

We had to stop at Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City.......for all to see some of the largest trout that I've ever saw.

From there we continued on up around the lake to Kings Beach and stopped for something warm to drink (but I had to have a Red Bull cause I'm gettin old. lol) before we continued on up over Mt. Rose (elevation 8.900 ft.) where it was mighty cold!  And, back down into Reno where everybody went their own direction.  Some of us went to the blues club and danced and then on to the strip clubs and all were packed to standing room only.

Found out today that Terry (a lady friend of mine) and I were in the Reno Gazzette today (I was able to pull it up on line......front page photo gallery, photo #8....has our names).

I think everybody had a good time, I know that I sure did.  Met some great people and got in a couple really nice rides, too.  Spent way more money than I should have.....but it was all fun and I'm looking forward to Cripple Creek next year.

(tomorrow I'll post photos here.....the others can start now)

JC,

Sorry I missed you! We were at the Alturas from around 2:00 to around 5:00 on Saturday!

We had a very tragic weekend as we lost one of our riders on Friday over Spooner Summit. One of our Group invited this couple from L.A. to ride up with us. Half of us went over MT. Rose and half went over Spooner. There was sixteen of us. The group over spooner lost the gent from L.A.. He hit some gravel, got high sided and went end over end. Passed instantly. Ruined our weekend. We had just met the gent a couple hours earlier. My wife was in a chase car with some other ladies immediately behind and she saw the whole accident. It traumitized her and she really didn't want to get on the bike after that. This is the second time for her at Street Vibrations she has been first on the scene of a fatality. She doesn't want to go back. I don't blame her!

So yesterday we just putted over to the Alturas and the group all went their separate ways. I think everyone was pretty traumatized.

Anyway rode home with a buddy, made a few stops, and had a great trip home! I do apologize for the downer post!

Randy.....good to hear from you but sorry to hear about the misfortune of the guy from your group.  And sorry that you're wife had to see it.

Alturus Club is where we were at Thurs. Fri. and Sat nights.  But the band didn't start playing till 9:00 p.m. so we showed up around that time each night.

As you can see by the photo, it was quite a site!  I did a couple little burnouts on Main St. in Virginia City and did not get caught by the police on any of them.  Don't know how that was even possible with as many police as they had......but made it the whole weekend without getting pulled over.

Thurs. a pack of us were leaving out of Carson City headed for Reno doing about 85 and just as we passed the freeway overcrossing I saw the highway patrol sitting behind the overpass with his radar gun pointing right at us (motorcycle cop) ......but he just looked at us as we passed so we continued on.  The only thing that we could figure is that he was looking for those doing grossly over the speed limit.

Tntdse, sorry to hear about your weekend.  You sure could of put some color in the pics.
We saw one teal SEEG and knew about another that stayed back in the hotel when we had breakfast.  Other than that no more teal was seen at least by me.  Hope your group is doing good and prayers are with you guys.  Ride safe,  Let's Roll

Breakfast inside the Peppermill where we got the slowest service that I've ever experienced.......half hour to take our order and a half hour to serve it.

Another scenic shot......taken just prior to us leaving town.  Of course I had to do a couple little hole shots on the way out.

To my amazement.......police never caught me........and everybody knows there was an army of em on each block.

Ridein off into the sunset.....through the twisties..........

Darrell H (from Canada) riding his BMW second to last and his buddy (can't remember his name) following up in the rear.  Couple of nice guys that you guys will want to get to know in Cripple Creek next year.  Hopefully Darrell will have the problems with his SEEG straightened out long before then.......

Twolanerider,
Just a UV filter on a Canon D20 using a 28-105 zoom most of the time.  Here is a link to her website http://photoeyeview.com/v-web/gallery/0509sierras where she just uploaded a bunch of photos from the Alabama Hills and on the road up to Mt Whitney.  We didn't make it all the way to the top because of rain.  Some of these photos are just plain outstanding, but then I may be biased.

Somehow you managed to get him on the last one even though he still beat you off the line! [smiley=beerchug.gif]

It was great meeting and riding with everyone, even if I did bail in Virginia City.  I was having too much fun to leave that quickly.  Passed out quite a few cards and talked to 2 green 2006 SEUC owners.  Will and I did the ride around the lake and even saw you guys go by (quickly) at the "Y" in South Tahoe.  I'd post my pics but they are too big by about 400K [smiley=nixweiss.gif].  On the good side, I paid for my trip on the craps tables.

Jim's got one more horsepower and 4 more ft. lbs. of torque than me.....so his bikes faster......but the ol'man can move quicker.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, JCZ,
Great pictures, and I know ya'll had a Blast!  My question is, whose Motorsickle was the fastest?  Tell it like it is, JC!  I've already heard one side of the story.  Now, I want to hear your side!  I'll be restless, irritable, and discontent, until you reply! According to Chip on the dyno hd-dude was the fastest.
On the street, Darrell from Canada on that rocket BMW was fastest.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, SE06,
You know that "Hallowed" Dyno Sheet don't mean chit to me, and BMW's don't hunt.  I guess I'll have to come down Charlotte way, when Chip's SEEG gets back home, and see what its got.  Wouldn't have far to go to drop mine off at Tilley's, if I get Dusted!!  You know I have to know! For what its worth Chip & I did a red lights race and he left me like I was on a Honda 50 [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd we witnessed his bike busting the tire loose and getting a bit sideways. Thats torque!! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Wow, some nice pictures, but you sure are missing some color [smiley=jalapeno.gif].

I guess I would be the teal that stayed back at the hotel.  I am definitely disappointed that Bling-boy (HD-Bling) and I couldn't catch up to you guys.  Thanks for stalling to try and wait for us, but I am glad you didn't wait too long.

My brother in-law ran into some trouble with his brakes and lights.  after messing with it for a while, I convinced him to head out to Freedom cycles.  I figured with all the good things I have heard about them, that they would be able to take care of him.
Sure enough, they rolled him right in and messed with it until they figured out how to at least get the brakes worjking and give him lights at least from the pedal.  Took a little longer than we wanted, kept us from catching up to you guys, but it was nice of them guys at Freedom to step up and jump in and take care of us the way they did.

Hey Chip, we saw your dyno sheet there at Freedom... pretty impressive.
In fact you gave HD-Bling a big-o case of engine envy !!!
He's already talking about getting some work done in the spring.  Ooops, I guess I let the cat out of the bag a little there.

Thanks again all for stalling to give us a chance to catch up, I appreciate the effort.

By the way, I made it over to the dyno-drags shortly after Bling, JC, HD-dude, etc... left (once again a little off on the timing)  anyway I witnessed a kid on a Kawasaki, crotch rocket.  They let him go 3/4 mile to see what he could get that thing up to on the last drag.
He pulled 178 MPH and 154 H.P.
Pretty impresive !!!

Heard some parents next to me say, they were going to take away there sons bike after seeing what that kid did on the dyno-drag.

Vanamal

You have mail

Also got this e-mail from Chip this morning.

"Morning Baby!

Here are a few thoughts after reading from the site.

That Vanamal is a great guy. Was so glad Brad had a chance to correct his map. That's
a fine running machine.
Even as elusive as Vanamal was, it was a pleasure to ride with him.

I was excited when HD-Bling wore out that other guy on the dyno. Brad can work his
magic if Bling wants to make a good running machine even better.

As far as playing with Hubbard, come on now! Even he knows better! I spent my money
to make the SEEG the best and most dependable 103 that I could set my but on. Hubbard
has paid and earned the right to be the top dog. I wouldn't want to take that away
from him. As everyone knows, money buys horsepower. I chose to spend my money on
planes, hotels, lights (hd-dude is da MAN!) and the opportunity to meet those "West
Coast" guys.  For a man that can never have too much horsepower, I would gladly
give up a few  to ride with those guys again.

As you know I have joined the organization known as ECTA-LSR. Their web site is
www.ecta-lsr.com.
It is my goal to make preliminary runs this October to prepare for a spring run
at the record for the class the SEEG would be in. That's why that fourth goal as
listed on the dyno posting of producing enough power from that 103 at 6000 is so
important.

So do you want to ride with me on the 03 classic or ride the Lowrider to the fall
rally at the beach this weekend? Whether behind me or beside me, just having you
there makes me happy. Your choice! I have made a reservation at the same place Hubbard
and Otis are staying.
Don't let me forget to get the feather duster from the laundry room. Might need
to dust "Ol Maude" again like Maggie Valley

Love you Nancy
Chip "

It's an SCD (sphinctoid communications device).  Race winners always wear them so they can talk out their ass after they win  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif].

By the way, you don't wanna know where the other end of that thing is installed  [smiley=nervous.gif]

Darrell just contacted me about some photos that were taken on this ride.  Just looking back through from page 1........sure brought back a lot of good memories. For those that were on this ride........may want to scan back through to reminice.  For those from Nor Cal.......or anywhere in the west for that matter..........who are new to this site, just an example of some of the rides that we've put together.  Start at page #1 of this thread.
