Harley in the leaves--Hazards of autumn riding
« on: November 03, 2005, 02:24:44 PM »

Ever have a day that started out so good.  Just out for a ride on your favorite Harley Davidson.  So, yeah, it looks like it's got a few miles on it.  But it's yours.  You know its feel and its rhythms.  Its yours, dammit, and it's made for days just like today.

Then, suddenly, there's a hazard ahead.  You didn't see it coming and there's no time to react!

You're hoping there's no real damage.  So to hell with.  Grin and be happy.  After all, a day in the saddle is still better than a day anyplace else anyway.

Then, alone and concerned, you try to pull the bike out from its sudden sad peril.

Great story.  Makes one aware of watching out for those ole leaves piled on the road.  And I gotta think that Uncle Donnie has a special influence on his very precious looking neice.  Thanks for sharing.

Twolane,

It would appear the MotoCo has a new model that they have not introduced to the general public, do you know it's name?

Jock, in this particular case its name is "Hawley."  But the model in general is the Power Wheels Harley by Fisher Price from Toys R Us.  A favorite of younger riders everywhere.

Kids are so Lucky today, with the high quality toys and such

I had a 2" x 4" with skate wheels nailed to it and called it a skateboard

Great Pics,  always nice to see our youth enjoying motorcycles as they are the future riders of our passion.

Enjoyed it Don! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Appreciated the information on where I can pick one up. Just found out I will be a Pa-Pa sometime in July, my first! [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] When the grand-kids say " I'm going to Pa-Pa John's" Their friends will either think they eat pizza every night or there Grandpa is rich! ;D

Hey Don, is there an accessory catalog out yet for that model??? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

JR, at one time there were saddlebag as accessories !  Then of course there's always the fashion choices to make for a girl's riding gear........

By the way, and most important, congratulations Grandpa  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Starvin, that's the same model family.  My niece (can't believe I'm admitting this) actually has two of them.  One at her house and one at a grandma's with the "big yard."  She'll be three in February and is actually really good with the thing.  But, like you said, even in high gear they only do about 5 mph.  When I got her the first one a little over a year ago she ran in to everything though.  It was a riot.  Fortunately she's not tied to just a love of electric Harley's though.  She loves being on the back of the red bike too  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Remembered this old thread and my niece's story here as I was downloading a video from the phone earlier.  Seemed a fit place to post the video.  Original pictures were when the Kid was just over 2 1/2.  Now she's almost nine.  Video is her first real ride on what's probably her favorite Christmas present this year.  For the best moment in the video wait for the approximately 84 second mark.  It was an unsolicited comment that made me laugh so much my eyes leaked.

Priceless! Soon she'll be on her own CVO.

Well.........    After riding the little dirt bike she told me, in her best "I'm sharing a secret" little voice, that she was never really sure she actually wanted a motorcycle when she was 16.  Even though she's been riding a little electric scooter of the type adults ride all over European inner cities for about a year now.  That was electric and it is obviously a scooter.  So it just wasn't the same.

So... after this confirmation that she's now sure she will want a bike when she's 16 she pivots on her doing a suprisingsly good about face away from her little green dirt bike and  looks over the SERG, the SEEG and the mostly completed SERK.  Points at the SERK and says "and I'll pick that one."  Then just wanders out in to the yard as if that's all there is to it....  :huepfenlol2:

Don't think she'd quite yet understood she doesn't have to pick from one of mine!
She's smarter then you think... she knows if she gets one of yours it will be well maintained and when she gets it there will be nothing wrong with it or to worry about... as she said herself... "Born to ride"... she ain't got time to deal w/no dealer drama. :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

That's already the order of things I'm afraid.  Six weeks or so it was time to change oil and run the valves on her little ATV.  Asked her if she was ready to start doing oil changes on it since it was hers.  She didn't say a word.  But the look was priceless.  It was like "huh, what an entirely new concept, isn't that what you're here for?"  :huepfenlol2:

Kids are so Lucky today, with the high quality toys and such

I had a 2" x 4" with skate wheels nailed to it and called it a skateboard

Great Pics,  always nice to see our youth enjoying motorcycles as they are the future riders of our passion.
Built mine in shop class out of Mahogany and put a racing stripe out of maple down one side.  Held the metal skate wheels on with wood screws.  The coolest part was riding it with my buddies down Mr. Kettering's hill.  He was long gone however his wife would come out and give us water.

Still not as cool as getting your pick of Uncle Don's CVO's

What'll really suck will be when she asks if it can be repainted pink before she claims it as her own.... ???

Pretty cool Uncle Don.  So when do we get to start making some modifications to her new dirt bike?  I was thinking we should start with the exhaust.. ::)  :nixweiss:

I think you need to get the head diamond cut (after matching powdercoat is applied)!

Unfortunately the little beastie already had to be worked on.  When it got here noticed nothing ugly on the box.  But sometime in its handling a fork skid had pushed though and its tip had punctured the gas tank.

Fortunately that was all.  But didn't get the replacement tank until the day before Christmas.  Changed it that night and the damn bike wouldn't start.  Fooled around for an hour and a half doing anything and everything repeatedly before discovering that on its slow boat ride from China some bug had made a home in the float bowl.  Cocoon keeping the float from opening.  After that the thing starts easy and runs like a champ.

That could be the best ride report of all time; or, at least the cutest.    ;D

That is true Candy.  In fact it has since started.  Fortunately so far it's just stickers.  Stickers are cheap.  I have a whole new appreciation for stickers...   ::)

Not sure what reminded me of this old thread this afternoon.  But go check the pics in the beginning from seven years ago and compare against this video from a couple weeks ago.  The more things change the more they stay the same.  Best part of the video may be the last five seconds.

Thanks Twolaner, those are great pictures and videos!

I never thought it possible that watching, would be as much or more fun than participating, until I became a Dad.
