A couple days before we departed on our trip North Eastern Baja had a record rain in the mountains. The run-off caused  several bridges to become disabled or washed away. Hwy 1 is the only road that feeds all of Baja. Without immediate repairs the country is paralyzed. We were amazed at how quickly temporary roads were built across the river beds. What was a raging river a few days prior was tamed and temporary roads were built.  The roads are narrow, with no shoulder, the cattle, horses, goats, sheep, dogs, and other unidentified critters roam the country without fences. We saw many dead cows, donkeys, dogs, and other critters that were recently killed along the road. A constant reminder to keep your eyes on the road and the edges at all times. Hwy 1 crisscrosses Baja several time which takes you through many dry & wet riverbeds as well as very steep twist mountain roads. Because this is an unusually rainy season rocks, boulders, dirt, sand, mud and you name it seemed to hide around every corner.
The 2 week trip was at least a week to short to spend any time to relax and really spend any time in the towns and villages along the way. For the most part we were on the road at least 8 hours most days.
I will give you a sample of what we saw in Baja.

One stretch of road is 202 miles between gas stations. If you are lucky you'll see this somewhere along the road. He has gas in 55 gal drums.
A lucky find
