Pekin Road/Cartledge Creek Road

Scenery:
You'll see and smell the lush green pine forests. You'll pass many old farmhouses and open fields. The road occasionally tops a small mountaintop and reveals distant views and nearby ridges. There are many nearby historic sites for detours if you choose. The road winds it's way through the southern edge of the Uwharrie Mountains and offers some stunning scenery especially in the fall.

Road Quality:
This is by far one of the best motorcycle roads in the State. Whoever designed it must have been a motorcycle rider. From long sweepers to properly banked tighties you'll want to do this one over and over.

Roadside Amenities:
There's not much on the road but plenty of nearby things to do. Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site, Morrow Mountain State Park. There are a couple of great homemade ice cream stands in nearby Ellerbe.

Directions:
Find the town of Troy, NC about 50 miles east of Charlotte, NC. From Troy take Main Street South (AKA Route 1005) which later turns into Pekin Road and takes you south to the town of Pekin (about 10 miles south of Troy). Eventually the road changes names to Cartledge Creek Road and it eventually reaches the town of Rockingham, NC and runs into U.S. Hwy 74 in Rockingham.
