You can ride with no air without an issue. The ride isn't that great, but they shocks are protected from bottoming.

Although I don't have a reach issue, I've got them courtesy of the previous owner, and I love it. I would have never considered this mod on my own, but I'm now sold. My next bike will definitely have them too.

I'm buying one of these set-ups for my CVO SG.  Anyone out there who can tell me the dangers/pitfalls to watch for when I install??

Watch out and be careful how you route the lower airlines.  My first time out after I installed the system I melted through the airline that had come in contact with an exhaust bracket.

I also carry extra airline and an airline cutting tool in my touring toolkit.

otherwise I am very happy with my Legend air suspension, it combined with 1 3/4" heels on my HD Riding boots allows me to have both feet solidly on the ground with a lot of room for height adjustment on the shocks.
