Title: Group Question
Post by: floresb on December 08, 2009, 05:21:42 PM
I'm on the verge of getting back on a HD again, temporary fling with a German mistress (BMW) and have my eyes and wallet on a '04 SEEG with only 26,500 miles.  Price is good and love the bike.  Problem is I had thrown at me a '08 FLHX with a 103" SE motor, few other accessories and a 2 year factory warranty, same price.  My heart is leaning towards the '04.  Everyone else says go with the '08.  Thoughts, pros and cons.  Thanks in advance.

stay away of both - don't go before 2009.

The new frame makes all the difference.

And there are some important improvements with the engine too - the 09'ers are the first 110s without major complaints ...

First off welcome to the site glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21: In regards to what you should get (my opinion might just be a little biased :D)... follow your heart. If memory serves me correctly the major frame upgrades didn't happen until the '09 model year, that 103ci motor unless it has some work done to it (vs the 103ci upgrade from MoCo) then you'll be better off w/a CVO 103ci (IMHO). Then on the other hand if you get the '08 you are getting a four year newer model and a two year warranty. It's a tuff call. :nixweiss:

Welcome to the site.  None of us can make your decision but can help I guess.

2004
SE CVO
The 103 in this bike is not the same 103 in the 08 (just the displacement is the same)-This one is better.  Others will have to tell you how.
Distinctive orange or blue paint.
Had chrome issues with the wheels.
04's and 05's were great bikes.
Lowered 1" in the front and rear.

2008-
Non distinctive paint.
6 speed
4 years newer.
2 year warranty.
Lowered in the rear only.

Like Kraut said, if the 08 were a 09 or 10, it would be a no brainer.  I like the CVO bikes of 04-05 and would pick the 04 if it were me.

Good luck and let us know.

What mods, especially the motor, have been done on each?

My question would be the condition of both bikes?  4 years is not alot of difference and the CVO has been ridden which is better than sitting (IMHO) for about 6000 miles a year.

The CVO has all the chrome and accessories already installed - what are the color schemes for the 2 bikes and probally the most important question --What color do you like the best?  I purchased the B&O 07 Jester because I LOVED the paint and even with the new frames there has not been a paint scheme that has made me want to trade her yet.

The good news is no matter which one you choose - you will be back in the saddle on a Harley and all your CVO friends here will help you spend lots of $$$$$$$$$ on mods for your new ride :2vrolijk_21:

I'll echo on the frame improvements for the '09/10. Can't be touched... otherwise, I can't help you on the diffs between the two you've offered for choice... I echo to jump ahead to the new frame if you're going to do serious riding...

You dont mention cost difference but my 2 cents is unless money is an issue I would buy an 09 or newer to get the new frame. Major improvement in handling even from the 08. Many dealers have a large influx of 08 trades from guys who decided they should upgrade after the frame change.

Sold both my 06 and 07 Harleys to buy the 2010 SESG just walkin the walk

Welcome from Upstate New York! :apple:  Do what you feel is right.  If neither option jumps out, maybe neither is the right route to take.  The 09 touring frame changes were significant enough to really seriously consider finding an 09 at a good price.  There are plenty out there and now is a good time to buy.  Good luck!  :2vrolijk_21:

I own and 04 Pumpkin  :pumpkin: and 09 FLTRSE3. At present time I still enjoy riding the 04 Pumpkin (really belongs to my Wife now). I know never say never but the Pumpkin is a keeper! They are still producing Street Glides so more common. There will be no more 04's built and they were produce in a 10 month run. So even more limited. It is hard to beat the classic looks and performance of the 04 SEEG's.

And that speaks to why we have a second teal 05 SEEG.
d00d said somewhere when someone asked about getting a new SESG that the SEEG's were two years and that made them very exclusive.
I'm sure Harley will make SESG's as long as they sell, kinda like the SEUC's.
The SEEG's will never be more than 04 and 05.
And our 05 SEEG is part of our long range plan.

MHO is that the 08 will never hold the value like the 04 if trade or resale is an option of the future :nixweiss:

Welcome to the board from Nor Cal.

While I now ride a 2010 SESG, I just sold my 04 SEEG.  If you can't afford an 09 or 10 bagger then I'd definately go with the 04 SEEG!  The most popular of all the CVO models and I think a greater percentage of original owners still have theirs.  You've got a number of SEEG owners on here that also own a 09 or 10 and their telling you to go with the SEEG, too.

Go after the bike that you really want and don't settle for anything less.....that's just settling.

Definitely go with the "REAL" CVO - the '04!

The first owner is taking the depreciation hit, and this one will hold its value better than the '08 SG.

The '04 & '05 CVO EG's are great bikes... That's why I'm hanging on to mine.  I love it!  :2vrolijk_21:

Traded in an 06 Ultra CVO for the new 2010 FLHTCUSE --- night and day difference  -- hold out for the 2009 or 2010  08 had engine problems.
