Title: Xm unit
Post by: kevin_n on May 12, 2019, 05:33:14 PM
Kathy and I were talking and she was asking about possibly adding Xm to her 13 street glide. It has a the stock head unit and I know Harley sells the unit and was wondering if it would fit even though we have a amp mounted to the top of the radio. Also found this and was wondering if it would work, best buy's website says it does. Just asking from the guys that have more experience then me.

Hmm,
No replies. That along with the fact that HD wants $399 to add Sirius/XM module from their web site makes me think this is not a viable option. Anyone have any experience?

Well we have Sirius in the wife’s Lexus with a full subscription which includes the Sirius App. I just connect the app thru my radio on the bike. It is an aftermarket radio though.

The kit Harley sells that will fit a 2013 FLHX (76404-06, $499) mounts directly to the top of the radio chassis.  If you've added an amp in that location you would have to move the amp.  Go to this link and click on the "more information" tab, then click on the installation instructions:

This, and use the Aux port on the front of the radio.

You can get a xm unit for 20 bucks, after rebate, at most truck stops. It comes with 3 months free trial. A handle bar mount off of eBay for another $20. For a cleaner look check with Ironcross.com. Also used Harley modules on eBay.

And back to the original post.....

Don't want to use phone, have to have phone mounted to bars, don't want to use $20 unit, have to mount to bars. Taking fairing off soon to add Amp. Anyone see why this would not work with stock GTS system and stock controls? Just seems odd that HD want $499 and Sirius/XM gives it away

Saw this on product info:

Product highlights:
SiriusXM vehicle connection package includes hideaway tuner and magnetic antenna
works only with in-dash receivers with the SiriusXM-Ready logo

Think that is a big no for me, do not see logo on radio on my '19 RG Special

Thanks guys. We have a subscription on my 16'sg, her new Malibu and our Silverado. My bike and the truck only get 6 month subscriptions since they don't get used year round. The phone app won't do cause we don't have an unlimited data plan. I have been looking at the ones that could be mounted to the handlebars. The only thing that makes me nervous about one of those is getting caught in the rain.  I'll do some more digging.
