Title: What are my choices for 2 in to 1 brands that make a ghost pipe?
Post by: 2006ULTRA on March 31, 2015, 11:37:34 AM
Like title say's who makes a ghost pipe for 2 in to 1's?

I did a search and didn't find what I was looking for.

Here's the brands I know of so far.

D and D which I run now.  Love the fitment of the pipe but getting a little tired of the sound.

Dragula pipe

Other than that I don't really know of any companies.  I'd like to get a list and do some research without wasting time if the company doesn't make a Ghost pipe.

Shoot me all the brands out there.

Thanks Brett

Thunderheader does, but just as obnoxious as the D&D.

Worse than D & D IMO. And the finish is horrendous.

Basically it's Drago's and D&D

The Bassani Road Rage 2 also has a "Psuedo Pipe". It is known to be a good performer.

I took the D&D off after just a month and installed the Dragula. I love it.
I'm not running the ghost but they do offer it.

Haha I replaced my D & D with a dragula too.

I replaced my Dragula with the D&D.  The Dragula sounded decent but waited 5 months for a ghost pipe that I never got and the rear head pipe is too close to my leg.  The D&D has a better design at the rear head pipe.  No more burning chaps at stop lights and I can now use my factory heat deflector.

I talked with AREA51 exhaust yesterday.  They have a killer 2 in to 1.  My brother in law has one on his 08 SG with 113.  It's the best sounding pipe I have ever heard.  I'm going to wait until they make a ghost pipe.  I'm on the list.

I don't have any trouble with heat and the ghost pipe came in 3 days.

The D&D kept bluing at the bend on the rear cylinder. I saw 3 other CVO 110's do the same thing. They wouldn't own up to a quality issue so the pipe got shipped to a guy in Pennsylvania. Too bad cause I had a fatcat on my 09 without issue.

I don't mind dropping that pipe though they are way too popular now no longer unique. I'm the only one in town with the Drago.  I don't like having the same things as everyone else. That's why I didn't go with Yaffe ape hangers :)

All subjective to the rider though no wrong answer here.

Enjoy.

I've had good luck with both my D&D's as far as quality and like you I want something unique.  I have the only Boarzilla around.  That's why I'm going to wait for Area51 to make a ghost pipe.  The pipe is awesome quality and like I said the sound is something I've never heard before.

I remember reading about that Area 51 pipe a long time ago. What's the ETA on the ghostie?

I really don't feel like spending over a grand on a new pipe for the 3rd time and then paying for another tune anyway lol.

No ETA on the ghost pipe and even the pipe itself is on back order.

My brother in law paid $1000 for the pipe.  In my opinion from the look and sound it's the best pipe I've seen.  My D&D is real nice too don't get me wrong but the Area51 set up is top notch.

Everyone claims this too but it's supposed to beat all other 2 in to 1's on HP and TQ.  Let the flaming begin!!!! ;D ;D

I really don't care about that as much as I do the look and sound.  I'm just wanting something different I guess.  I've been riding D&D for several years so I'm getting wrestless for a new tone.  I just want D&D quality and appearance and the AREA51 is the first pipe I've seen meet the standards I'm looking for.

I'd be tempted to order the pipe and wait for the ghost but I did that once before and won't make that mistake again.

I run a Supertrapp with a ghost pipe which I had to wait 5 months for the ghost! I think the dealer where I bought the bike from hoped that I would not notice the missing pipe, I had to point it out, they did not seem to think it was important enough to mention at delivery.

Very happy with the pipe though.

Found a video of the pipe, sounds good.  Looks like the rear head pipe swings back real close to your leg.  Had that problem with the Dragula (which I head is made by Rush)  Want to stay away from that.  Kind of short legged.

If you don't like the twisty bend of the Dragula or Rush (which I don't), consider the Dragula S/C/S-4. It's is a non-stepped pipe that doesn't have the twisty rear pipe that sticks out by your leg, assumingly because it's not equal length (shorter), and is a smaller diameter (1.75" the whole way).

I've thought about 2-1 and if I did, that would be the one I would get. I don't think a stepped header is any better in the low end for our 110 engines, and I like the look of the S/C/S-4 better.

I haven't had an issue with the long bend (I expected some) except for not being able to retain the heat deflector.
Oddly, I don't recall it being excessively hot or uncomfortable. I have done several mods and am running a PV AT so that has helped a great deal.
Without a decent tune the heat would be ridiculous even with the heat shield. I am also not tall or long-legged.

I just looked on Drago's  website and the Dragula 2 is way different. It looks like the rear pipe is almost touching the fins, no long bend at all.
You might check it out.

Yep he released that awhile back. I've got way too much money invested between the tune and the pipe I'm not doing it over again. This one stays on.

Yeah that's one of the reasons that I opted for the auto tune setup. It seems to work really well through all the mods and pipes I've done.
I'm certain it's not "optimal" and I don't have any dyno sheets to post... But it runs like a scalded ape (compared to stock), so I'm happyhappyhappy.
Swapping to another pipe to try is not a problem. I might give the Dragula2 a run some time.

Surly I have the Power Vision with auto tune. It doesn't hold a candle to a real tune from a guy like Doug Lofgren. It is nice but I have headwork and cams. Needs a tune so the pipe stays.  :nixweiss:

I run a TMAX and plan to make a trip to the dyno this spring.  The TMAX doesn't adjust timing so I want a good baseline to work off of.  I also have cams and head work.

No question, I already know that a guru like Dave Stoddard up at Pocono can unquestionably get more out of it, and I'm gonna get up that way at some point. But my point with the PV is that even a Doof like me can quickly get the system very close and not have to worry about burning up their new pistons or leaving just a whole bunch of performance untapped.  I mean to say that it can get pretty close and certainly *way closer* than canned maps or no auto tuning.
But I'm with ya on the need for a real tuner when you want to get everything that's hiding in there. Besides peak numbers, a good tuner will hit all those part-throttle drivability areas that the AT can likely never get.
In fact, just writing this is giving me a reason to maybe form a plan.
I would like to just see how it compares.
I intend to have mine tuned and to find out with real Dyno runs just how much difference there might be.
Dang it, man! You're about to cost me some money!

Hahah that was not my intention brother. I simply was making the point that for my particular scenario I think it would be silly to have cams and heads done and then just do a canned map and auto tune it. Now for a stock setup or maybe just a pipe and A/C I think I could live with it.

But if you insist I would love to see some before and after on your bike  :2vrolijk_21:

GMR is on my short list. Also interested in others in the TX OK La AR areas. I would prefer to take it to Dave, but PA is a long ride from here... Not ruled out, but still a trek for a day's job.
I'm well past AC but have retained the 110 heads, so far. (I'm not easily convinced that these heads are actually a limiting factor on a 110c.i. so I'm running them for a while longer.) No doubt, the head mongers will happily sell heads that work well, but the CVO heads can make respectable numbers.

My valve guides failed at 18k so there was no way I was putting the stock heads back on at that point.

The new Dragula 2 does not have the radical bend like the original Dragula. I run it and love it. 97.5 hp and 118 lbs./ft. from a totally stock engine with the Dragula and tune. Nice deep rumble at idle with a muscular sound when you get on it. Pipe looks big and strong and I got my ghost pipe delivered at the same time as the exhaust. Here it is.

Funny I was going to suggest the same thing. I'm a 6.5 hr ride from Dave, and was considering him or Brian Beckley at Zepka's HD (a bit closer), but yeah, that would be a long haul from Texas, especially when you have a shop like GMR in your State.

I would wonder if the new Dragula gives up power anywhere as a result of losing the bend.. I would assume that there is a trade-off for any gain in packaging.
My Dragula is 11 months old and flawless. I might just put it on the market and get the "2"

I don't know what I would have gotten from the original, my guess is something very close, but here's how I dynoed with the Dragula 2. Otherwise, totally stock motor with the stock Heavy Breather Elite intake. Tuned with the Super Pro Tuner.

Wow! 15 hp and 12 ft lb from a pipe. AC and tune?
That's pretty significant.
The new pipe can at least be certified as "doesn't suck".

I've burned my chaps and ruined rain suit pants on the bend. My bike was tuned by one of the best. I'm only 5'6" though.
Sounds familiar Mr. Jswerve. I am also 5'6". And my chaps and my leather pants have melt marks right behind my right knee and a matching burn scar to go with. Also burnt a hole in my old rain gear in the same place. I love the sound of my Boarzilla but that rear exhaust is HOT AS HECK and I wrapped it.

Actually the peak torque gain was twenty with twenty five at 3000 rpm. The hp gain was about 14. And the Heavy Breather AC was stock. Sorry the image is a little blurry. This pdf is clearer. And you are right, it doesn't suck. I also want to line up with the guys who recommend a quality tune. I know some of my gains came from a good dyno tune, not just from a pipe. My Heritage had V&H long shots with just a stage 1 download, and it ran like something was wrong with it power-wise.
