Post by: JCZ on November 08, 2015, 12:32:15 AM
A beautiful day for a ride and a good turn out of So Cal members of this forum.  A number of old faces and a few new faces......OK, they were all old faces.  :P

Alan (SDCVO) got to meet a few more people on this forum.  And of course everybody was interested in his scooter with that new S&S 124"

And Mike and Lou & Terry got the "shortest distance" award.  ;D

We came upon a couple of accidents today.  Both accidents looked to also involve at least one motorycle each.  And on roads like these, it's never going to be good or just a close call.  Reminders for the rest of us.....always be ever vigilent of that other driver.

First site of our destination and first stop.....the Mt. Palomar Observatory.  And now we're up high enough that we start seeing some of the fall colors turning.

At 5,500 ft. we've finally arrived at the observatory....

Just want everybody to know that Jimmy made it on every leg of the ride today.  A close call a couple of times....but he was there.  ;D

Marty's beautiful Ultra Classic.  That deep red is a real nice contrast on that color scheme.....makes those colors pop!

Lance (ACFixer) and a couple of his road dogs, Sid and Ben, made it to their first CVO ride.   Sid & Ben don't ride CVOs so we told them they're just "hang arounds" until they cross over.   :P  Seriously, great guys....they're gonna fit right in.  The three of them just got back from a road trip to Utah a couple of weeks ago, so they're riders.

Babe jumped in there to get a pic with them....

and they snapped a couple of Babe and I.....

This is inside the observatory and shows just the very bottom of the telescope.  I've been in a number of observatories and this one is just huge.

OK.....the million dollar question:  Why are all observatorys painted a flat, bright, white?

Answer:  To reflect as much heat as possible.  If they get to hot during the day then they cast off a lot of heat waves at night.  The heat waves distort the view of the telescope at night.

And the second accident that we came upon.  There were several bikes on the side of the road, behind the fire trucks and the CHP SUVs, etc.  This was at a T intersection as we came off the mountain and intersected the highway.  I sure hope this guy didn't pull out in front of a bike and the bike t-boned him but that's what it looks like.  :nixweiss:

This guy became my friend real fast once he found out there was a little of the burger patty with the fries.  He looks aggressive but really was very gentle when taking the food from us.  He hung with Lance and I through most of the meal with the exception of a couple of trips the length of the bar to clean up the floor.  :)

This bike really deserves some time/attention.  At first glance.....just another ol' rat bike.  But it was so much more than that.  A rigid Sporster with a girder front end but there was so much put on this bike to make every little section be just unqiuely interesting.

Check out the fool proof gas guage....

And the paint job.  He said it was five rattles cans of spray paint......a hell of a lot of sanding and 22 coats of clear

Is that why you had me riding up front?

Great day and hope to do it again real soon!
