Title: Ex-Lurker, Newbie in Ohio
Post by: Raskul on February 26, 2007, 09:30:52 PM
Hey all, Raskul here.  I thought I would finally join and introduce myself.  I've been lurking for the past couple months as I went through the process of buying my '07 SERK.  After a lot of thought and deliberation, I finally decided to go with the Candy Cobalt.  For me, it wasn't an automatic thing, color that is.  They all look hot to me!   :2vrolijk_21:

I'm an 18 year Air Force vet currently stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB.  A Southern California desert rat at heart, this cold weather and snow is killing me.  I went from being able to ride 350+ days a year at Edwards AFB, CA, to having to watch my bike sit in the garage due to snow, ice, and salt.

This is my second HD.  My first was a black '03 Fatboy, which I still have and am holding until it becomes more of a seller's market.  I've been really happy with my Fatboy and have enjoyed customizing it, but I just couldn't resist the new SERK's and all they had to offer.  So much of what I wanted in my Fatboy was "standard" on this bike.

My SERK is currently in the shop getting RH TD's installed.  I will be making a post on my set-up and pipe issue, but I wanted to introduce myself first.  When I get my bike back from the shop and the sun decides to break through the clouds, I will take pictures of the two beasts and post.  If there is one thing I've learned during my lurking days, you guys love pictures!   :worthless:

I'm looking forward to conversing with you all, and here is a picture of one my house beasts to hold you over in the mean time:

Glad you decided to join Raskul.  Hopefully it will warm up by April as March can be nasty too.  You'll be riding that SERK before you know it on a regular basis.

Raskul.

Welcome to a great site.  I'm a transplanted Buckeye.  Grew up down the road from you in Springfield.  Left after college and have only been back a hand full of times to visit family.  Too damn cold for me there too!  I've also lived in So Cal on two different occasions, both times in southern Orange County (Mission Viejo and Laguna Hills).

What store did you get your bike from?  I just recently found out the dealer in Springfield graduated in my class.  Should have been better friends with that dude ;D

Congrats on the bike.  I almost bought a Cobalt SERK, but changed at the last moment to a SEUC, due sometime in the next ?? days.

Stay warm,

John

Welcome to the family.  Thank you for your service and dedication to our country.

Hang on, spring will be here soon.  In the meantime, this is a great time to add new mods, or just in the garage with a cold one and admire your persoal piece of art.   :drink:

Another hearty thank you for all my new welcomes!!!     :beerchug:

As far as mods go, I'm having the first ones done now:  RH TD's, SERT.

As far as you all helping me spend my money goes, that is what I was counting on.  I can spend money, now, don't get me wrong, but I want to spend it wisely.  That is where you all come in, so I'll thank you for that in advance.

Are you aware of the fit problems with the RH true duals?  There is a thread here that describes the issues in detail.  Front header pipe has been known to have some issues clearing the billet brake arm. :(

I did read the threads about the clearance issue, but I also read were it fit for some.  On the other hand, I read and heard where RH was the way to go for performance.  So, with that information in hand, for me it came down to what was more important:  peak performance or keeping the stock brake lever.  And, do I feel lucky.  Basically, an engineerign trade-off decision.

Well, I've never been a lucky man.  The stock brake lever didn't work with the pipes, so I have a replacement on order that looks VERY similar.  I don't have the bike back yet, so I can't tell you how much of a difference the new lever looks.  I don't mind the placement of the non-extended brake lever, but if I ordered the billet style of that and it didn't fit either, I would be facing a 25% restocking fee (back to how lucky I am).  I would be interested in hearing if anybody has tried that option.

I thought about waiting to see if Bub was going to do anything about this clearance issue, but I really couldn't stand the way the stock bike was set up and running, not to mention the stock sound.  With the stock set-up, I also question the quality of the break-in (the dyno charts don't look very nice).  My bike only has 260 miles on it now; I didn't even wait for break-in.

John...  I got my bike from Buckminn's in Xenia.  Is that the guy you went to school with?

Andy,  ditto if you are in the Dayton area.

There are a few other guys here from the state as well.  We will definitely need to keep in touch and meet up at a rally some where.  Perhaps even motor pool to one... a sort of CVO convoy!
