Title: Another no start
Post by: 05Quadrasteer on January 31, 2018, 06:09:43 PM
This must be the day of no starts.  Mine does absolutely nothing.  I can hear something sounds like it is winding up for a couple seconds then stops.  When I hit the start button the sound returns so long as I hold the start button.  But nothing happens.

Yes, battery is fully charged.  Bike ran fine yesterday back and forth to work.

The one thing I did notice is the Electrical System Lamp (security system) goes off after a couple seconds when I turn on the ignition.  When I hit the start button it comes back on and stays steady.  Reading the book it leads me to believe I might have a security system issue as it says contact the dealer.  Am I in the right direction or did I somehow blow a fuse?

Yes, I have tried both fobs and even put in my pin

Just checked all the fuses under the left cover and even swapped the 2 relays and still the same results.  Are there any other fuses or relays I haven't found.

One more piece of the puzzle.  I remembered I have the FP3 and it reads codes.  So I read codes and it gave me B2123.

Any further clues?

Error message is starter motor short low, I’d check for a loose ground wire at the starter.

Back from the dealership.  They found the BCM had went bad.

I hope you have warranty or ESP.

Yes, I am on my ESP now.  Hitting 70,000 miles in just under 2 1/2 years on the bike.  Lots more long big rides to come on it.

Base Body Code Module.  The only part I know for sure is it controls the security system.

Thanks Bill.  Sometimes I think this sight needs an abbreviation glossary..lol
I don't even see the BCM in either of my books. Glad you found the problem

The BCM appeared with the introduction of the HDLAN (can bus) electrical system.

Here it is:  https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=9308.0 (https://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=9308.0).  It doesn't yet have BCM or ECM, but I asked for those to be added.

Interesting.  I've heard that same sound when the battery is strong enough to power up the info system, etc., but not strong enough to run the starter motor.  Gotta add BCM to list of things that cause that sound.

The BCM is an electronic module that controls the CAN bus electrical system (called HDLAN by H-D).  Body Control Module, which comes from the auto industry where the non-powertrain related electrical system is called the Body Electrical system.

The mechanic told me the sound you are hearing in the video is the electric fuel pump.  When power switch is first turned on it primes, then when you hit the start button it starts to run again.
