Wife and I always try to take a road trip for our anniversary. We got married in the wrong time of year to get much riding in so it is usually by truck. Weather looked promising this year in the Black Hills area so that was the destination. I am sure most of you have been to the area but being there off season is so nice. No traffic to speak of so you can stop and look as you please even if it happens to be in the middle of the road.
Sioux Falls

Another at the falls
-
Coming into Deadwood at night. They had just had a light snow earlier in the day and sure made the place beautiful.
-
Badlands

Another from Badlands
-
Had several of the big horns running around in the park with no fear at all
-
A quick pass through Sturgis
-
We stayed in Deadwood for a week and this guy was bedded down every night in some people's front yard. We had to drive by every night just to see if he was really living in their front yard
-
He actually was walking down the stairs and playing peek a boo around the corner

One of the upstairs store fronts in Deadwood

Another store front

Iron Mt Road

Know what you mean,...the wife and I take our trips in off season and when kids are still in school much more peaceful.
Good thing you're not on the bike rolling into Deadwood
-
This is what was so nice about this area in winter. We were able to park, walk through the tunnel and take pictures without a single car being seen
-
Cheyenne Crossing Store. It is located at the end of Spearfish Canyon. It is a great place to stop and eat. After we found it we went back that night for dinner and would definitely do it again
-
We got off on some forestry service road and it turned out to be a 20 mile adventure. Glad for 4 wheel drive because it got pretty interesting a couple times. Don't know if you can see the display on the nav but it shows main street. Oh it didn't lie. It was just 20 miles before it turned asphalt again
-
The last 5 miles of dirt before we found the town of Piedmont. And yes it was Main Street
-
Couple last sunset pics as we started home
-
Home now and ready for the next time a road trip comes our way.
Hope the pics convinces someone else to try that area in the off season

I have to agree with the peaceful part and we typically only try to pick a general destination with no real agenda for when we get there.
Yeah Deadwood would have been just a little interesting on the scooter

Thanks for the memories. Sure came flooding back. Been awhile but just spoke with the better half and we are going back in the off season
hopefully soon.
We will have a little longer ride tho. Again thanks.
-
Great pictures, glad you had guys had a great time. Have you guys put Florida on the calendar yet?

Greg we are about 1000 miles from there. All said and done we were almost 2700 miles by the time we got home.
Good luck and hope you make it.
I will say shop around a little because Deadwood is truly dead and the casinos have some great deals on rooms. We were in a king bed suite for $53 a night at the Tin Lizzie Hampton

Harry a trip to Florida isn't on the calendar yet, but it has sure been talked about. Love to get down and do a little riding with you all

As many times as I've been out there, I've never been there in the off season and being able to walk through those tunnels with NO traffic....wow. We've talked about going back during Winter and staying at the Hisega lodge (it's way up in the hills) to enjoy the snow but haven't done it....yet... :2vrolijk_21:
Thanks for sharing the trip with us.

Haird, this was our first off season trip to that area and honestly don't know if we will ever go back unless it's off season. So much more enjoyable
-
AMEN to that. like to go end of july about a week to week & half before "sturgis". have the whole area to yourself.

Great pictures! :2vrolijk_21: Thank you for sharing. :2vrolijk_21:

All those places you rode by and said Wow to yourself but couldn't stop because of no parking or the traffic wouldn't let you get there are all yours during this time of year.

I have been out many times for the Rally and always had fun. Two years ago we rode out for the first week of June. It was great, no incompetent riders. Never realized there could be green in the Bad Lands. Very enjoyable, and riding was 1000% better.

Yep, just have to watch out for the tour buses on the Twisted Bridges :nervous:

That is all our neck of the woods. Certainly a better time to see it, thanks for sharing.
