Title: Dealer Fee
Post by: newseultra07 on May 17, 2020, 02:00:56 PM
Was at my local HD dealer yesterday and noticed on some bikes they have added a $2995.00 dealer prep fee.. What a ripoff that is. I was gonna confront the sales manager about it to see why. Last time I was in there 2 weeks ago it wasn't on the sale tag. Guess they figure can get it..I for one wouldn't pay it.

No need to pay it, even if they insist.  It's called "ADP".  Additional Dealer Profit.  For me if not negotiated off the deal then it's a walk away item.

As noted above, it's basically a BS way to jack up the price versus being honest and calling it what it is, additional dealer markup because we think you're an idiot.

EVERYTHING is negotiable.  You start at MSRP and dealer freight charge (Harley and others don't include it in the MSRP but it is a standard charge by Harley), then everything else they add is bogus no matter what they call it.  And even MSRP is negotiable.  There is a very generous dealer profit built in to MSRP, and dealers who wish to move the iron can and do discount below MSRP.  Those who add ADP items and refuse to negotiate should be shunned; if enough people walk away they will lower their prices or go out of business.  It would be nice if they all were straight shooters, but even in times of excess inventory we see the jerks trying to rape the customers.

Yes I never pay any dealer prep fees or delivery fee. I would never pay that price of $2995. Im not looking at a new bike was just in walking around and noticed it...If I was looking and they tried to put that in there I would walk away.. There is 4-5 dealers in my area or I would just go out of town..

don't shoot yourself in the foot though.  look at the bottom dollar figure before you start going all nuclear on them.  i don't care if they want to list the bike at $100 and fees at $14,900, if the bottom dollar out the door figure is good, they can write it up any way they want.

but yeah, if they are starting at msrp, and then adding on to that, either they start dealing or i start walking.

Dealer prep is actually paid to the dealership by mother Harley. A dealership here got called on it a few months back and sure enough some of the finance/salesmen didn't even know that. Don't pay it!!!!

Tell the dealership that the $3500 dealer preparation fee is fine and that you understand completely.  Then tell them to figure your $3500 CPF (consumer patience fee) into the final cost along with the $1750 DiaDa (Dealer is a Dumbass) fee.

Going to see a lot more dealers trying this crap with the Virus related short inventories. Our Dealership was told to "Not" budge on any pricing while inventory is small.

In bigger dealer with good sales, they are running out of bikes to sell.  HD is not make or shipping any bikes at this time.

Some dealers will be unscrupulous and jack the price to get every penny they can as they do not know when they will get more inventory to sell.  That said a good dealer at worse will not budge off MSRP will inventory is low, but will not jack other fees or crap to screw you.

Basically they said HD not making anymore bikes till 2021 so that's why they are adding additional fees to price.. Told them I would buy a Goldwing before I even paid a penny over MSRP...

Maybe they haven't got the word that Harley sales are down and I believe they're going to go down a lot more.  They can sit on their over priced bikes until the 2021 bikes come out then they'll be stuck with last year's models and they'll have to mark them down to move them.

I don't blame anyone that makes a living in sales for "Making Hay while the Sun Shines". If they mark them up $2500 and only one fool pays it, for lack of research, then that's the buyer's fault.
I really doubt many people in todays market are that misinformed, but for the few that are, It's there fault, not the dealer. Otherwise why would anyone ever buy a CVO from Destination Daytona?
