Title: Best cam package for M8 with a 117 motor
Post by: DwayneJJ on December 16, 2020, 02:41:05 PM
I have a 2018 CVO Roadglide with a D&D 2 into 1, heavy breather, thundermax tuner and I want to put a cam setup. Not sure what package to go with. Want both performance and torque. Based on research Woods cams are supposed to be pretty good with a S&S oil pump. I am looking for recommendations on what Cam specifically and push rods, rollers etc... will give me the best bang for my buck and where to buy it. Thanks.

I’m not sure it’s the best, But I’m very happy running the SS 550 cam.. Sounds great at idle, lots of torque and nice HP.. This cam can be a pain to tune correctly, but once it’s dialed in it runs strong... Lots of threads on here about cams and reviews on them...

I also have the CR480. A majority of my riding is long distance two-up with luggage. I wanted stout low end that didn't choke out too early. This cam delivered a great balance of everything. The throttle response even when loaded up is fantastic, pass on the interstate with ease.

This is a 5th gear pull so the peak numbers would be a little higher in 6th. But the shape of the curve is fantastic. I've had builds with much more horsepower than this one, but this is still my favorite combination because of where it's making the power. It feels faster than what it seems on paper. I just wanted to offer feedback that can't be seen on a simple sheet.

Good luck!

Cyclerama cr480 will make 112hp 125tq with your pipe. It will be a fun ride. Use a the 2020 8 lobe pump and save 300 dollars

Look at Woods 22xe. Great numbers and all around power.

Where do you want power band?
Low mid
Mid high
Do you plan on making engine mods these are the questions you want to ask your self.
So many cams out there that will do the job.
Thanks FD

You wouldn’t put that in a stock bike though? You’d never use the cam I wouldn’t think.

I had that in my 2019 CVO Stage 3 and I could play with bikes a lot bigger than mine up to about 90. Great power down low but does fall off around 4500.

I thought/was told the Woods 22xe pulled strong to redline. It was my understanding that it didnt fall off at or around 4500 rpm. I was told you gave up a little torque down low but gained hp up top compared to the 22x.  This is concerning to me because that is why I purchased that perticular cam. Your experience is from actual use so again a little concerning on my end.

Springs needing to be changed and "hard to tune" is a show stopper for most. There are so many other cams that get the job done as a "bolt in"

My guess is CVO NH had a 22x not an XE. The XE loses a very small amount under 2500 rpm but pulls out to 5500. I really like it in my 128 the bike makes power everywhere and is very smooth. The Dino for the cr480 looks very similar.
