Title: New DIY project begins
Post by: longlast on February 16, 2021, 10:03:41 AM
I have this to sort out a connect up for the new upgrade cylinder head and oil cooler high flow fan system I'll be making. I'm installing this to be ready for this summer. I had made a head cooling unit before but this time I've bumped up the air flow  from 145 cfm to 253 cfm on the rear cylinder and 212.6 cfm on the front cylinder.
I'm putting a 253 cfm air flow fan on the rear because of the rear cylender running hotter then the front cylinder.
Also installing a 212.6 cfm fan to the oil cooler.

The parts are slowly arriving just got an email today that two of the 3 fans are on route (had to order from two separate places) Can't make the support bracket for the fans until they arrive.
So I'll wire up the relays and get it ready for when the fans are mounted then it'll be a plug and play.
I put the switch on the left side heat deflector.
I'll post as things progress

Be careful Pete, get that much air blowing in a crosswind across the cylinders and the bike will change lanes all on its own!

🤣🤣 thanks for the heads up there Don,...I'll have to ride with a right hand lean ta counteract the side drift. BTW,...its the ditch I's  got to watch out for being on the left and all.

Put one fan on each side of the bike.  If they don't counteract you can at least do down the road doing donuts!

IT seems my 07 Ultra was not fortunate enough to have the EITMS function implemented in to the ECM.  :-\

Yep, you haven't had to sit in traffic for 5 minutes!  :D

Hazy memory of mine now, but I'm not sure the turn-on-by-throttle thing was there before the wethead motors.....  There's no fan or pump to run, so I wouldn't imagine you'd notice anything unless the motor was running and it was hot.  Maybe I'm mistaken, of course, but I thought I could remember my 07 turning the rear cylinder off when stationary in traffic queues...

My recollection is that the 07 bikes had to get a (then) free dealer flash to enable the function.

Ok, just found this in an old bulletin:

On 2008 model Touring models produced after December 3, 2007 the EITMS is already installed

Read this thread, Pete:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/1286324-eitms-years.html

Mine definitely had it enabled when it came I think - no recollection of having to have it enabled. (Again, memory not what it used to be though...)

Ah, mine must have been produced after that, Don.

It would seem (typical) mine didn't get the free Dealership flash to enable the function. Doesn't surprise me either the dealer I got mine from sold my bike as an 08 to me in 2011(second owner) it was registered in 08 they neglected to say it's an 07, it wasn't known to me for sometime later when I found it was an 07.
I'll have to check into the Dealership and see if they may just still do the install for the function.

I'll hit them up on what the link says about the free install.  Who knows!!

Meanwhile I'm carrying on sorting out the fan wiring  :alcohol:

My bikes are so old they can't even spell EITMS.  The old FXR can't even spell EI.

Still waiting on one of the fans I ordered to arrive. Got the two 212cfm fans now the 253cfm fan to came.
Mean while I've been in touch with HD to see if they can/would do the free flash enable function to the EITMS for the rear cylinder cut out.  They've got to have a look into it and get back to me :nixweiss:

HD got back to me they say there is no implement for the 110 CVOs  only for 103 touring softails and others not for cvos.
If the bike didn't have the rear cylinder cut out when made it can't be added. So they say,....

I strongly suspect that's absolute nonsense Pete - the wording of that bulletin that Don and I found is explicit.  I'd persist with them about it,

Jim, I did take there answer with a grain of salt. I'll try to do some digging see what I come up with. Can't see why it wouldn't be for CVOs I'm thinking I was just being shoved off

That I will do Don once we're out of this lockdown we're in. At the moment with this Covid-19 if I  leave my area and I'm pulled by the coppers I could get a hefty fine so I'll have to wait till the stay at home band is lifted hopefully that should be by the months end.
Then I'll go in and show them the Billiton along with codes to activate the EITMS. I'll most likely have to pay the Bulletin says free activation within 60 days of purchase.

Same here. The ‘07s were ungodly hot.  Not just the 110 CVOs. Even those on 96s were complaining. Khrome Werks makes a cross under head pipe that greatly improved the comfort level - well that along with a proper tune.

Don't know what the tech at HD was feeding me,....a load of bollocks,...there's no HEAT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM for prior 08 CVOs.
Found this in my repair manual (Engine Management)   They obviously don't know what they're talking about or were just shoving me off. I'm loosing all of any trust I had with this Dealership. This is the third time they've given me untruthful information and by my own research plus help from those of you on this site have found the correct answer  to the issues I've had including this time about the EITMS.

On another note,...I'm running with a V&H Fuelpak (its been on the bike from day one) I did research on in because one other thing that I've been informed about is the bikes ECM is set for the motor to run lean that makes it run hot.
I found that No.17 mode on the Fuelpak controls the fuel and the setting for my bike is "0" so I reset it to +2 , +adds fuel,  -- decreases fuel.
Perhaps by it running a little rich will help with the heat.

Fans up and running, manual control over ride switches installed,  an inline oil temperature sensor installed on the feed side of the cooler.
I'll be going to the Harley dealer to flash up the ECM for the EITMS.
There should be no more over heating issues this summer when stuck in traffic.

Hehe! Good eye,.. we have over here a road tax  that all vehicles have to pay (where the money goes is anybody's guess,  there's one thing for sure it doesn't go to road repairs)
When its paid you get a round paper disc on cars you put it in the front lower left corner of the windscreen, on bikes in that round container to display you've paid to use the road.
They've stopped with the display disc now, now it's all online with DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency)
If you don't pay they will fine you up to a £1,000 and vehicle impounded and if no insurance vehicle is crushed.

Had a ride to sycamore Harley Davidson to sort out getting the EITMS ENABLED.
For some reason they seem somewhat confused about it all I had to show them the July 14th 2006 SERVICE BULLETIN M1191 for 2007 ENGINE IDLE  TEMPERATURE MANAGMENT SYSTEM.  THEY can't give me a straight answer about being able to flash it up because the bikes an import  :nixweiss: don't know what difference that makes.

So they said the only way they can say if it will accepted the flash input Is to book it in plug it in then see if it will accepted it.
Now I'm booked for the 23 04 to go in the shop then we'll see hopefully the Technician knows what he's doing.  :-\
Title: Re: New DIY project begins
Post by: longlast on April 24, 2021, 01:55:59 AM
My booking in to the shop was yesterday and that turned out to be a waste of time.
They said the EITMS won't activate it my have something to do with the piggy back plugged into the ECM preventing the digital Technician to activate it. They suggest I should up grade the fuel pack system that's on the bike to a FI 3 or better.

The pic is the shop report,..

What the Fuelpak has to do with anything is passed me.  I may not be the sharpest stick of the bunch,....but from what I get out of all this is if the Digital Technician can't activate the EITMS then the function hasn't been downloaded "YET" and that's what it was in for them to do.
Do I have this right or am I missing something?   All they could come up with is I have historic codes who cares they're as it says HISTORIC CODES!   :confused5:

Just got of the blower with a alternative H.D. shop they asked for my vin number a few moments later they came back and said "no problem we can do that for you when would you like to book it in" It would seem they know what they're doing more so then the other shop.
So it's booked for the 30th to have the EITMS downloaded. I'm not sure if it will be enabled constantly or if i will be able to disable and enable it by the back twist of the grip.

We'll see.

Good luck Pete.  I can't wrap my head around why this is so difficult either.  Always frustrating when those on a task (especially when you're paying them) refuse to take the moment necessary to understand.  Ego gets in the way of listening to the audience sometimes but, for The Travel God's sake, people should just stop and listen sometimes.  I don't think I have much in the way of biases.  Except for the willfully stupid/ignorant. But that.... I'd rather be victim of rude things by mutant ninja turtles than have to put up with that cohort of our wonderful world.

Maybe it's less that it will actually take an hour to do the job but that the shop has a one hour minimum labor charge?

That's not an uncommon shop policy.  By the time you roll a vehicle in and out, set up tools or equipment, etc it may sometimes be a fair bit more than what is spent but it's rarely outlandish.

Suppose you got a point there.

Its been some time since I've used a shop years as a matter of fact other then getting rubber changed and that's not going to happen again

I've been to this Dealership before bit over an hour away from me just to look around. What they do have that I haven't seen anywhere else is from the service area there's a glass wall to the workshop. You can watch/ see the bikes being worked on.

Glass wall to the shop?  Geez, I'd hate that!  Not only would I freak out over everything the mechanic would be doing differently than I might I'd also be thinking "oh chit, there goes my hourly rate" every time he/she stopped to scratch his or her ass, chat with the next person over, or just stop to think about stuff!  Thank goodness for flat rate manuals.

Unfortunately it doesn’t work like current models where you can activate or deactivate it. I too had an ‘07 CVO Ultra and had dealer enable EITMS. It requires a dealer flash to activate or deactivate. So whichever state it is in is where it will stay. Good luck with your endeavor to get this resolved.
