Title: HD heated and cooled seat
Post by: Glenncarp on April 01, 2021, 08:13:03 AM
Anyone have this yet?

https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/Harley-Hammock-Heated-Cooled-Seat/p/52000462.

a grand for a seat is a bit steep, but wondering of the cooling functions is worth an extra $300-$00 more than a normal HD heated seat,

This looks awesome. Is this a new 2021 item? I love my current heated hammock, but would definitely make this switch if the cooling function is decent.

I do have one but haven't tested it yet. It's supposed to be in the 80's next week so I'm going to give it a try and I'll report back then.

:vrolijk_11:    Would you post some pictures of the seat on the bike? I would love to see how it looks and also feedback on how it changes riding position from stock if at all

Thanks
Dave

Finally got the seat installed and went for a ride. First thing I noticed was the seat definitely sits me lower than my heated hammock, which is a good thing because my knees are now bent and I can have both feet flat on the ground. I've got short legs (28 inch inseam) so that is nice. It also is easier for me to throw my leg over the bike. It sits me, kind of, like the seat on my Road King. Janet climbed on the back and she thinks I'm now low enough that she can see over my shoulders. That's something she always complained about. The negative is I'm going to have to buy a shorter windshield.

I wasn't able to do a long ride but the seat seems very comfortable and it definitely got noticeably cool. I'm going to get the IR camera from work and I'll post a temp shot as soon as I can.

The seat doesn't exactly match the CVO hammock or the tourpak backrest but it's pretty close. I let a few of my very fussy friends look at it and they didn't notice the difference until I pointed it out.

I took this picture before I rode off so if you want other views, let me know and I'll try to get you want you're looking for. I'm not a great photographer but I'll do my best.

I'll try to get out for a couple hundred mile run this weekend and, if I can, I'll let you know how the seat does on a longer ride.

So far, I'm very impressed with this seat and plan to leave it on the bike. I'll let you know if that changes.

Yes please, more photos. Would like to see angles that demonstrate lower profile for rider and seat back in relation to saddlebag lids etc.
Thanks for taking the time

Do the following pictures help?

As an added note, I feel like the seat has sat me about 1" lower. When I changed the suspension and added the fat tire my 18" Freedom Shield was still ok but I could tell I was sitting a just a little lower, relative to the top of the shield. Yesterday I did the measurements with the new seat and I'm sitting 1-3/4" lower. I called John at Freedom and he's making me a new 16" sport touring shield with a really cool eagle laser engraved on it. Once I get it, I'll mount the 18" shield and then the 16" and take pictures to show you the difference.

Love the fat front tire! Have one on my Road King too. I have to take a new profile picture and I'll try to get some good pictures of the tire when I do.

Vroddave asked about seat position. I tried the cooling on my ride but it was a short ride and I didn't have my IR camera with me. I mentioned I'd take a long ride and measure seat cooling as soon as I can. My seat was definitely cooler to the touch than the passenger seat was, and it was turned off. I wasn't and ain't really concerned about heating because I never used the heat on my other hammock.  The heat off my engine always kept my seat warm enough.

Let me know what info you're looking for and I'll try to get it for you.

Thanks for the info. I may just go with a hammock heated seat as it doesn't get rediculously hot in the NC mountains.

You're welcome Glenn. I'll still post my infrared images when I get a chance to take some. I'm in middle TN and we're going through another one of our cold snaps. I'd like to get out went it's above 80 and see how the cooling performs but according to local weather reports, that may be a couple of weeks. I can get a shot of the heat function for you, if you'd like it. Let me know.

Any updates on the cooling function?  I'm in TN also and am curious how cool the seat really feels on a humid 90+ degree day.

Thanks.

If you're going to spend that much on a seat. You might want to consider the Corbin Fire and Ice seat.   (https://www.corbin.com/harley/baggers/hdflh14dte.shtml)

Looks a bit lower from the stock seat for sure.   I'm sure it's comfy. Do you use a backrest??   I really like the look and it looks like a fairly good match to me by the picture.   Enjoy. Looks great!!   Stuart  :2vrolijk_21:

It looks pretty nice, but I don't know anyone who has it. I'd want to make sure that it is as comfortable as my hammock. It does look lower, which I'd prefer over my higher heated hammock.

You get them directly from Corbin. I think you can try it and return it if you don't like it. Check that first, however.

Not sure if our stock HD backrest will work with that seat. If that's important, then figure in another chunk of change for one of Corbin's.

Sorry it's took so long to respond guys. Life has not let me ride until now.

I've not been able to measure the seat temp but I rode last weekend for about 3 hours and the seat was noticeably cool and seemed very comfortable. It got about 90* when I was on the way home and, though I was hot, the seat did seem to keep "my seat" cool and comfortable.

It does sit me lower for sure. I had to buy a 2" shorter windshield so I could see over it properly. With my original heated hammock, I couldn't get both feet flat on the ground but with the new hammock I can get both feet flat and my knees are actually bent some.

I am using the stock backrest. Like Stu said, the seat isn't an exact match but I don't think it looks bad at all.

I'm taking the Road Glide to Maggie Valley for our GTG on Sunday and I hope to get some good rides in all week so I will have a better idea of seat comfort on an all day ride. Ill try to be better about getting you an update once I've done some all day rides.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can do anything else.

FYI, I did look in to having my hammock altered to make it lower but didn't have any luck.  I emailed the seat company that has been mentioned on this site as doing this type of work and they responded stating that can't alter (lower) the hammock seat.

Getting off topic from the OP question...I have a friend who's vertically challenged and had his stock hammock on his 2020 CVO limited altered by a local upholstery shop. They took out some of the foam on the sides up near the nose of the seat allowing him to get flat footed. It doesn't really lower it as much as it helps get your legs closer together. He's really happy with it and it didn't cost him much and said he didn't lose any of the comfort factor.

I'm following this thread looking for some positive feedback on the cooling factor before I pull the trigger on this seat that my 2021 would've come with

Thanks for the update Joe.  If it eliminates that TN summer swampy feeling I'll be in.

Just a quick update after the MV GTG.

My longest day ride was 250 miles. The seat was very comfortable for me. When we left the hotel it was cool out so the seat was turned off. On the way home, it was near 90* and I noticed my azz was feeling a little moist and sticky so I reached down and turned the cooling function on. In about 20 or 30 minutes I was back to very comfortable. I'm now convinced that this was a good purchase for me. I have no regrets at all.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can do anything else.
