Title: Fork Lock 2020 SG
Post by: FELIX on April 22, 2021, 04:13:13 PM
Hi
I need to remove the dash panel that holds the 6 push button switches.  Looks like I have a couple screws and my fork lock to remove.  I have removed the (ign switch.fork lock) on earlier models but they had a button underneath.  How on earth do I remove this on my 2020?

Fork lock cover removal and install ??

This seems to be a completely different design than the Road Glides, on the Street glides the fork lock switch (Which is only the fork lock NOT the ignition switch), has a flip up cover, does not have any pin underneath like the older lock/switches.  I have removed the two screws out of the ends of the switch housing, and I can get the cover to move around but the switch needs to come off like the older ones did to cleanly remove this cover.  So wondering if anyone has yet tackled this and knows how to perhaps get the switch to separate OR is there another way.  I am, thinking I might have ton remove the housing for the piece in the middle of the gastank... ??

I thought that I had to remove the cover to get to my handlebar clamp, but I was able to slide it back far enough so I didn't have to remove it.  Anyway, I posted here about removing it and someone said that you have to slide the gas tank back a little.

Wow.  Turns a small job of changing out the switches  or replacing one into a massive job.  Thank you very much for the reply

Moving the gas tank back a bit makes give you a lot easier access to re & re the switch housing so you can install the switch for the rehung lights. i did this on my 2016 SG.

Your bike looks great. That's exactly what I want to do is put the passing lamps on. OK I wanna try removing or pulling back the gas tank a bit I know that that's got to work because it's so close right now it's like a whisker and I be good. Thank you very much for getting back to me

There are two screws on each side of the switch panel take them out and since you will pull the gas tank, you'll have enough room to pull the housing back. There is a blank switch on the left simply depress the tabs and it will come. There should wiring connector simply plug it into the switch and insert into the panel. Then replace the screws and refit the tank and yout all set.

UPDATE
I removed the 2 screws and the one screw at the front of my gas tank, this allowed the strip that goes from front to back of my gastank to lift and shift to the side, removing the switch panel was a piece of cake after that, so no gas tank removal, yay, pretty sweet actually.  I can see the fork lock switch is a large beast that comes out as a unit from the looks of it.  Thanks for the help and feedback!!
