Title: New Sportster S
Post by: OBB on July 13, 2021, 01:48:40 PM
Looks like a fun ride to me. 121hp and 94 lb ft of torque in a 500# bike.

$15,589 starting price. What's the $200 surcharge for?

They're putting that on every bike now it seems. Probably just another HD tax.

Seat looks a little sparse and I’m not sure about those high pipes…there’re going to be putting out some heat.

The side view IMO, looks like a toy. Like a stamped steel, play on the kitchen table, toy.
It all looks "one piece", Like I said, "Toy ish".

This is pretty exciting. I like it. "Sportster S" is kind of a boring name though. That kind of power will put the SPORT back in SPORTSTER. The new Revolution engine is killer but wait until the tuners get their hands on it! This is gonna make bike nite at the drag strip fun. The Indian guys will have some competition. When does the chain conversion kit come out?

For the first in, well, maybe forever, I find myself interested in (or at least curious about) a Sportster.  I don't like the visual impact of the exhaust.  There will be options to change that though.  Same for what appears to be a saddle not quite up to the spatial requirements of my aged and bulbous posterior.  But I'm still curious about the bike.

With the PanAmerica having the same impact on me (or even more) it's probably a good think my little garage won't comfortably hold more bikes and that, for local riding and general farting around, I like the old FXR better than anything else.  But still, this gives a first impression of being a very cool bike.  With a few things recently I'm quite pleased with the impression that Mother Harley can get out of its own way and old habits and (hopefully) do better.  Good on ya MoCo.

Don I'm kinda getting a funny feeling about this bike too. It will be interesting to see where it goes once the aftermarket starts to play around with it. What interests me the most is it's lighter weight (my legs aren't getting any younger and the lighter weight compared to my bike would make it easy getting off the jiffy stand), HP (121)/TQ (94) available in stock configuration (something for the aftermarket to build on... bye bye warranty), it's water cooled (hopefully alleviating heat issues), and my riding style has become short/local solo jaunts that this bike would work well for/with. Some motor work (cam, head work, etc.) and a good pipe bringing it up to 150+HP/130+TQ on a 500 lb bike would be a blast.

I get all that Gary.  A significant majority of my local solo farting around ends up being on the FXR for many of the same reasons.  It's so much lighter.  Throwing it around is so much easier.  It's an Evo so of course not the kind of power we're talking here.  But it's seen a 100 and gets there without tremendous effort.  It will cruise on the highway comfortably.  And it will play on the little roads when I have a mind for that.

I'm sure 30 year old me would would thank 60 year old me a knob and a wanker for enjoying a bike because it's easier; or at least easier for old knees.  But 60 year old me doesn't give a chit and doesn't listen; so it's all good.

Glad to see it.  Now I want to see them go 80,000 trouble free miles.  I hope it's not another M8.

Only question/concern I would have is... Would the Sportster S make my ____ (fill in the blank) look big?...

Only from behind.  And you never ride behind yourself anyway; so it just doesn't matter!

And, really, at our age ANYONE actually bothering to check out our ass is a good thing :drink: .

You know I remember a Sportster I fell in love with........1969....a red one. I was ten years old and thought that was the baddest bike on the planet. Of course talking about the Sportster used in the show Then Came Bronson. That show started my love affair with Harley and adventure. And it lives on today.

I think this new Sportster S is cooler than chit!!

I hope this new Sportster S can stir the passions in some young people today and begin their own new love affair with Harley and adventure.

Took a demo ride on the Sportster S yesterday.  They sure put sport into sportster.  Bike is very quick, acceleration is fantastic.  Its the Pan America motor with a different cam and tune.  Sure doesn't feel like it has less HP.  Thing Flys, corners great.  Could use more suspension travel.  It has ride Modes, rain, road, sport, and two you can customize.  Traction control and wheelie control.

Pretty cool ride. I see price as competitive and think they will sell a ton of them. More attractive to me than the Ducati due to larger dealer network and just being a HD product.

Has the longest line of any bike on Demo Truck for people wanting to ride.  I think it will be a hit if Harley can market it right and get the word out to the ones buying Naked bikes.

Nice looking bike, but I’m not a fan of the high exhaust.  Might look cool, but it’s going to radiate heat to your leg, especially in hot climate areas.  Initial media ride reviews expressed the same concern, especially when stopped in traffic.  The way the bike is designed, I’m not sure the aftermarket could manipulate a low slung exhaust for the Sportster S.

I like it....power to weight will make for a fun ride, then the aftermarket will squeak out some more. Give it a year to work out the bugs and maybe I will take a demo ride.
