Title: Need BAR Advice
Post by: ramseyusmc on April 01, 2022, 04:18:27 PM
I have a 2015 FLTRUSE.  LOVE IT.  I ride daily for work.

I find the wrist angle is becoming more and more uncomfortable for me.  I use a back rest and sit up more than I used to.  I am looking for slightly higher bars with less of a sweep.

Any advice on pre-wired bars I can purchase (DIY Install) that use stock Brake and Clutch Cables?
With less of a sweep?
I heard I can go to 12s sometimes 14s without needing to change the Hydraulic Cables.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

G’day Ramseyusmc,

I had the same issue with Lucille my 2015 FLTRUSE. The stock bars were painful as they were made for little folks with midget arms. IMHO they copied the design off a wheelbarrow handle.

First thing is to make sure you are happy with the seat as changing the seat changes your grip angles etc on the bars.

Go have a look at https://brcustomcycles.com/
They have a bar measurement guide towards the bottom of the home page.

Get an old coat hanger & use the guide to bend it into a set up that suits your desired wrist angle, arm height & so on. Take the measurements that suit you & then start looking for bars that match your measurements. That way you will end up with something that suits you ergonomically rather than a fashion trend.

I had BRs build mine & have had 7 happy years behind them.

There are lots of options out there so choose your own adventure. Good luck.

Cheers Tom

You can go up to 14in.on a RG without changing out your cables. If you wire up your own bars there's plenty of wire behind the speedo cluster for the that also.

Great Info all, thanks.

Does anyone know or know where I can find the sweep of stock CVO bars?

G’day Ramseyusmc,

Use the guide from the above post & measure them.

LA Choppers bars have the perfect wrist angle (for me at least) and have a narrower width. I have a batwing and went with Twin Peaks but they would be too wide at the bottom for an RG.  I know they make a bar for the RG but don’t know what it’s called.  Mine were very easy to run wires internally with a rope and simple green as a lube so I wouldn’t stress over finding a pre-wired bar as long as you don’t go with a meat hook style.

KST makes a 3 piece bar that you can adjust the wrist angle. Took a few adjustments but they are perfect once I found my sweet spot.

Thanks for all the advice.

Ended up going with KST 12" Ape Hangers, prewired from Hill Country.

Installing this weekend.

KTS 12" Meat Hooks Installed.

Bought them from https://hillcountrycustomcycles.com

Complete Pre-Wired Kit.  Couldn't be happier.  Great customer support and products.

Stock Hydraulic Cables worked perfect.

Thanks for all the responses and replies.
