Title: First Impressions, CVO Road Glide Limited
Post by: Marty811 on April 29, 2022, 09:50:39 AM
Hello all,
I picked up my new CVO Road Glide Limited yesterday at the dealer. This is my first shark nose, always had bat wings in the past. First Impressions:
Completely different feel with the fairing/ handlebars setup. A little unnerving initially. More room to move around because of the different shaped bars and the increased distance to the fairing. This was a positive.
The bike definitely feels more planted on the road. After becoming more familiar with the bike I felt myself going through the familiar corners faster and with more confidence. It felt like it was on rails.
Wind protection was not as good for me verses my old CVO Limited. The bike comes with a 14” windshield but most of the wind hitting me was coming through the holes in the fairing. My wife thought the wind protection was about the same for her.
Big advance in electronics, with the blue tooth wireless headset I can bring up Apple CarPlay or a lot of other screens. The information screen is neat, even shows the altitude. 5603 feet at home!
A lot to play around, it may snow tomorrow so I’ll be in the garage messing with the bike!

One of the first things I did when I got my '22 was to put in the Fairing vent closures.
Here in Michigan I need those vent's closed more than open.
Beautiful bike. Best CVO paint in years!

This is new to me! What are fairing vent closures and where do you get them?
I can close the top fairing vent but are they’re plugs available for the vents on either side of the headlights?
Does it increase buffeting?

HD removed the vent doors starting in 2020.....so you need to order 2019 fairing vent doors and install them. I did that for my 2020..easy install. It's the same vent you have only with a button and doors that close.

Like every year, Harley charges more and gives you less. Lol
Here are the Harley assembly part numbers:
29200071
29200072.
I believe they were about $160 for the pair from Surdyke.
They have them on Ebay for $125 but the actual Harley part is kinda sketchy so I don't
know if I would trust aftermarket.

If you want to close the vents and not use them at all, there’s a vendor on eBay that sells covers at $25 for a pair. They have good ratings. That’s what I plan on doing.

Great info to know, need to get these for my 2020 RGL. Congrats Marty, first CVO RG that makes me think I should have waited. Kinda built my own CVO in a way I guess but never the same. Wonder if I could/should pull the 131 parts and install in a new bike? Ok, that's just stupid..plus just got mine paid off. Looks great though. Bought mine at BHHD as well. Saw your photo and said to self, hey that looks like a familiar store front then I saw your location. If your there say hi to Brian Gruhn from Wayne. I don't remember the name of the tech (Kevin maybe) who installed my 131 kit but both made my purchase go very well. Cheers.

To find vent covers on ebay just google 2020 road glide fairing vent covers and they will come up.

See if this is what you're looking for - Harley Road Glide fairing vent block closure (patent pending) no tools needed (https://www.ebay.com/itm/403437890708).

Will do, great dealership, always treated me well.

Not sure why anyone would want to shut or block-off the Vents. I closed mine Once, when new and then re-opened them and they have never been closed again in 7 years. Grant you I live in Florida but I've ridden in the high 30 degrees and still never realized a need to close them. But to each his own. I tend to think that HD stopped putting them on new bikes because no one used them and it saved a few bucks.

Are those fairing lowers std or did you have them put on, they look great side on.
Got any pictures looking from the front to show us. thanks in advance.

BTW, that is the best color I have seen since 2012.

I have only closed the vents once on my 2015 CVO road glide.  Too much buffetting when closed.  Never closed them on the 18 or 19 CVO road glide.  Have over 100K miles between those 3 bikes.

Beautiful new bike.  Love the color.

It’s a limited so the lowers are standard and house the radiators.
I have only driven the bike about 100 miles. (Snowing this morning again),  but there was more wind in the cockpit than I was use to in my bat wings. It seems most of the wind was coming through the holes in the fairing. I am hoping that with those vents closed but the upper vent open there will be little buffeting.

I'm glad I spent the money and got the Actual Harley Vent closures. The people in the southern states don't understand the temperature swings we can have up here. To be able to open or close is a "Must have" in my opinion.

I ordered the vent doors last week, the left side vent door is in stock but the right hand door is back ordered until June!
I would think everyone would order them in pairs.

Congrats on the new ride
just bought the same thing CVO limited  RG in the  wicked orange in the end of feb and had it for Daytona(bonus was had family there to  :bananarock:
Should of gotten a RG yrs ago...  Wait till you get it on the interstate   wow   and i did do the hp hd cam, legends susp ft and rear    and was what i was looking for on the highway...came off of a 18 cvo anniv limited   Big thing I notice was no buffing passing semi trucks
As for the wind coming through the sid vents around the headlights haven't really noticed but then again i installed the custom dynamic headlight and the chrome vents with turn sig in them from custom dynamics .. Maybe that is why i haven't felt or noticed anything and also running the freedom shields windshield .. just my .02c

H-D eliminated the vent doors just like they did on the batwing fairing vent from 2020 to current. To many warranty replacements and to save money.
Remember charge more, give less.
That's Harleys moto.

Agree, I close them all when the temps drop into the 30’s or lower when I’m riding in the winter.
