There is a learning curve no matter what bike you ride.  My wife came off dirt bikes (15 years of experience, but no riding at all for 8-10 years) and her first road bike was a Heritage.  She took the beginner class in July of last year, put around 1500 miles on the bike and we left on an 8000 mile trip in Aug.  She's now riding my RKC.  She is 5'4" with short legs so we lowered the Heritage.  Make sure she is at least flat footed and has some bend in her knees for the first 10000 miles or so.  It boosts confidence.  She had some low speed (parking lot drops) initially but none after the first 3000 miles.  She's flat footed on the RKC with no bend in her knee's but she claims she's more comfortable than on the Heritage.  Can't keep her off the King.  We're leaving for  Boise in a few minutes and I'll trade bikes with her tomorrow for a hundred miles or so.  My guess we'll be looking for a Glide of some sort for her soon.

Hey Dan, that '04 SEEG is for sale on this site......looks like a fair price to  me, and that would be a good swop for the Heritage.    [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Just saw today that the local dealer in Smithfield, NC (just off I-95) has a $500.00 rebate on all FX's and $300 off all softtails and sportsters and $500 rebate on all Dressers.  That's the 1st REBATES I've seen since the 70's.  What's up, doc?   [smiley=nervous.gif] [smiley=confused.gif]

I don't think the choices were very well thought out for the poll. IMHO of course.

Are you just insinuating that ladies would obviously be riding the smaller of the HD bikes?  I used to ride a Road King Classic 95th anniversary edition, but am now riding the 05 Screaming Eagle Electra Glide.  [smiley=laugh.gif]

Well, looks like it'll either be a dyna or a "other". [smiley=laugh.gif]

BA, she can always consider "other" models and just change the seat and shocks........but you've probably thought of that.  Also, rather than go brand new, look at cycle trader for a bike that's already a year old that already might have these changes.  Just some thoughts bro.

My wife rides a '05 Softail Deluxe onto which she has emptied the chrome catalog.  Prior to that she had a Duece and a Heritage softail.  The Deluxe fits her great...lowest seat height on an HD, fat front tire for stability and a windshield for the Florida bugs.  Only upcoming change is a 95 kit so she can keep up with the ol' man.

Missed the brand new rider thing, I'd go low rider, softail fatboy, night train that kind of bike. Not any of the sportsters, they all have a high center of gravity.  Actually JCZ's advice about not brand new for the first 2-5 thousand miles would be a great thought too. I started on two Susukis, first one an 8-- then moved up to the 1500.  Only had problems with the first, and those were all my problems in parking lots.  Lotsa luck.

Another idea I'll probably catch he** for but GoFastGirl graduated to street bikes a few years ago on Kawaski Vulcan.  Low seat height, low center of gravity, easy to handle, decent looking bike and plenty of power.  Compared to an HD also an inexpensive bike to learn on and ding a little if such a thing might happen.

Thanks Mrs. WeCVO. Printed off your thread and let Cheri read it. Lots to learn. Appreciate the guidance. Will let her do the training and get the feel of driving first. Several ladies riding in local HOG club. Getting to know them - great support for her. Will let her choose what she wants when she want to. No pressure for now. She' really getting into riding with me. Did only twice on my Honda ST1300. She's done 5 rides with me for over 600 miles totalso far on the CSE2. Cool...We've got a real cool road with small hills and curves nearby around the lake. I think she likes the rolling back and forth in the twisties. And close to home at one corner I always give'er through four gears up to 6000 rpm. Usually it's slow down. But nestled in with the tour pack supporting her, she's rocken... Cool...Thanks.

Badass2,  this bike for sale (http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=mkt_sell;action=display;num=1115147140)  is a good example of getting a bike that is easy to learn on, and when your wife is ready to move up, it will be easy to move on quickly because of the low price. I would normally say this bike is too small, but it will go 55 mph and for the low price, I would not negate it.  JMHO, of course.     [smiley=cowboy.gif]

I started riding solo on a Honda Shadow 600VLX at the age of 43. It sits and weighs a lot like the HD Low Rider. I think either would make a great starter bike for your wife. My first HD was a 1200C Sporty, recommended by my dealer and husband. I only rode that bike for a year. Just didn't like how it felt,  a little top heavy and a bit tall sitting for my short legs. Second HD was the first CVO bike from Harley, the FXR2. I kept that bike for nearly 4 years before I got the urge for something larger. The RKC was next, also recommended by my dear husband, a 2003 black and silver one. At the time I was really looking at the Fat Boys or the Heritage Classic., but again went with my husband's suggestion. I really loved that bike and it's nice smooth ride. However it turned out to be a bit too heavy and wide sitting for me and my short legs to handle. Even with it lowered quite a bit, with it being so wide I still couldn't get my feet down good enouth to get the leverage I needed to manuver it around in many situations. Mostly uneven ground and steep hills etc.... That's the reason I decided to go with a Fat Boy this time. The SE Fat Boy is nice and low and doesn't feel near as wide as the King did. Although it's only 40 something lbs lighter, to me it feels more like a hundred or more to me. It's because the FB has a lower center of gravity and sits much different than the King. It's working out much better for me. Most lady riders that I know who have been riding for a year or more have either the Low Rider, the Fat Boy, the new Softail Deluxe or a Heritage Classic .  All great bikes from the HD line for women riders, especially the ones of us with shorter legs.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  Sandy

My Wife started out on an anniversary 883 Sporty , her first street bike. After 2 years of riding , she recently upgraded to a 1200 custom and loves it. We looked at the Softail Deluxe , while she loved the look and the feel she wasn't comfortable with the weight.

My first bike was a "05" 1200 custom sporty.  I agree with the ladies, I never felt comfortable on the bike, top heavy.  I do have a supporting partener who was patience and helps me. The best thing for us beginners is someone always pushing us when we are in doubting ourselves.  I also learned in the blue ridge mountains.  We went to Cherekee NC rally last September.   I got my licence in August and had about 300 miles on my sportster.  When I left NC I had gained another 500 miles and I have to say you can learn alot on those mountains.  I started to build my confindence on my sportster and I figured out I should have listened to my rider edge instructer.  He told me to skip the sportster and go for the lowrider or softail but as a beginner the size and weight indimidated me.  But it only took getting 1800 miles on my sportster and I knew this was not the bike for me.  I saw the 05 red sefb and fell in love.  I couldn't trade my sportster in fast enough.  Needless to say I am new rider with alot more to learn but I would rather learn on my Fatboy.

The soft-tail deluxe boasts the lowest seat height next to the CVO's.  Rode one, it was down their, most ladies, and inseam challenged males like it.

I'd like to resurrect this thread.  My wife and I are looking at a used 883 custom at the local Triumph dealer.  It has locking bags, a wind shield and sissy bar installed.  It's 3 years old and only has 3,700 miles.  We can get it for a little over $6,000.  I thought it was a good starter for her.  She doesn't have her license or permit yet and will likely take the NY DOT course this summer.  She was intimidated by the weight of the 883.  I was surprised by that comment until reading this thread.  What have others started with?  Now I'm leaning toward the Deluxe......

Have known more than a few women who in comparison didn't care for the Sporties.  While overall weight may not have been the comparative problem the top heavyness of their weight did seem to be.  In the Harley line the Lowriders seem like an obvious consideration.  Outside the Harley line something like one of the midsized Vulcans could also be a fair consideration.

I started Vags SO/Judy out with Honda's 750 Shadow Aero.  It took time after going through two motorcycle courses and some personal instruction for her to get the hang of riding. She is only 5' 3.5" and can flatfoot the Honda.  February of 07, I upgraded her to a Yamaha V-Star 1300 Tourer, which she can just flatfoot. And she rides it very well.  Now she threating me to take away my 07 CVO CUSE2 and ride it. And she is like me, about a third to half flatfoot on the already lowered CVO. To get your lady to ride, she needs the confidence to handle anything that she can put her behind on.

Just my .02

I just got my first bike in Oct. after taking the Harley riding course. I had thought to get a sportster for my first bike, but couldn't find one that I liked. My problem was that I had seen the FXDSE2 and fell in love. Finally decided that I wouldn't be happy with anything else, so I bought it. I am 5' 5.5" and 140 lbs. and don't have any problems riding it. I did spend about 2 weeks practicing in a large vacant parking lot before taking it out on the road. I also had the engine guard installed, for now, in case I should drop it (shudder).

My wife Jody started out with an 883 while doing the Harley Davidson program and after she got her license she upgraded to a 2003 Dyna Lowrider with forward controls added. I have to tell you from riding both bikes the Dyna is so much easier to ride. You actually feel like you are sitting in the bike instead of on top of it. In my opinion it is a much easier bike to ride than the 883 or 1200.

My lil woman has a 06 fxdli in dragonfly green n black...She is 5'0 and 100 lbs or so.
She took the mti class on a 250 sumtin on a dare from me (bad move on my part) and went shopping on her own.
I did not want to influence her...The rice store ignored her when she went in and she said they all were ugly anyway.

She saw the green dyna and it called to her..
She only dropped it once in a lot with no damage, other than that she rode a bit before she got sickly with the MS.
I had it out Sunday, it is a fun bike to ride it runs strong with  RH 2-1, big sukka.

I try to keep her up about getting back on, she is trying to improve her core strength with working out and I hope she gets back to riding it someday before it is too late.

Miker, thanks for the post.  1st, sorry about your wife's illness.  I hope she gets many more years out of the Dyna.  I know the progression of MS is debilitating.  I remember the Dragonfly green and black.  That was a limited edition color in 06 and looked FANTASTIC on the FLH line.  My wife is pretty nervous about riding.  I told her to get off the fence and decide whether she's "all in" or "all out".  The used 883 might be a good start.  We really won't be out anything if we had to sell it.  I'll show her this thread and have her decide for herself.  I think she's also intimidated by the increased power of the 88 and 96.

My wife took the MOCO learn to ride course on a Buell and failed the 1st time.  Bought her a used Suzuki 250 which she put about 1000 miles on and retook the MOCO course and passed.  Started looking at a Lowrider as we assumed it was HD's lowest bike.  Found the Deluxe and Fatboy much more to her liking at 5'8".  She has put about 7,000 miles on an 03 Fatboy.  After putting on a Corbin solo seat and changing to a narrower handlebar with a little more pullback, it fits her well.
Like 2 Lane stated, a lot of people have started on a Sporster but they seem top heavy with a high center of gravity.  Everyone's situation is different.  Another good bike to try out is a Yamaha 650 Vstar.

Thanks, things are how they are bro...

I think the class and controlled riding practice on the little bikes gave her the confidence she needed, I reccomend it to anyone starting out...mtii.com , I think.

She got the pressure from the salehole for a sporty but they are a little heavier at the top, she found that to be true for her...The fxdl fit my wife ok with the stock seat, we put a narrow ass little "reach" seat she fits flat footed.

I supported her for the "big kids bike" because I could ride it too and I dug the green color change and black!
I have another friend who is small and she found a 883 low, she is very happy with it.
I'll post a pic of it later, I don't have one on this machine...Thanks again for the kind thoughts

My daughter rides too. She's 5 ft and 110 lbs. She started on an Anniver 883 which she had lowered. She thought the other Harley's would be too big. She rode it for less than a year when she started tossing her leg over my FatBoy. Now I can't get her off!  :D However, she will not let the sporty go.

My wife is also 5'11 (taller then me), and on the thin side (except for some surgical enhancement - if I remember correctly, a trade off for some chrome or some such chit).  She used to ride quite a bit.  She had a Kawasaki Vulcan 750.  But, she would not go take the test for her permanent motorcycle endorsement on her drivers license.  So...I eventually told here if she didn't go take the test, I was going to sell the bike. l'm pretty sure the insurance company would frown of riding well beyond the limitations of the learners permit.

But, she is a very happy and content BSR and I am happy to not have to worry about her having an accident, even though she was a skillful and careful rider.

My wife took the Rider Saftey Course and has been riding since the summer of 2000. She started out with a 2000 883 Sporty...... A year and a half later moved up to a Dyna LowRider..... Now She is on a 2005 Softail Deluxe. having said all of that I think that the Deluxe is the way to Go :coolblue: the seat height is perfect, the Center of Balance seems to be perfect, and it is a little heavier for the long trips.....A sporty is nice to start out on but anyone I known with a Sportster moved up a year or so later......Dave

Mine first learned on an '05 1200C at 50 years old. At 5'4" - 115 we lowered the front and back. After bags, shield, lights and lots of chrome we got her an '07 FLHX. First 2 1/2 years of riding she has 24,000mi of saddle time and 2 new bikes.
Old bike:

My hat off to all the ladies who learned how to ride and those that still ride the sportster line of HD bikes.  I have never ridden one.  I could not get over the feel on the sales floor.  I opted for a non HD bike to learn on - I bought a Suzuki 800 Intruder.  I aspired to get a low rider one day, but we started to do a lot of travel on the bikes, and I learned quickly that I wanted a bike with more width to load stuff wider, instead of going higher.  I did not have the cash to get a heritage when I traded my 800 on a 1500 Intruder.  From that it was a easier move to the Road King and now I am on the Electra Glide.  I would like to try to ride a sporty some day, because now that I have the basics of riding down, I'd like to figure out what it was that threw me off so much when I was first starting out.

It was the height and top heavy feeling I am sure. I am not tall but I am taller than you and I hated the feeling when I stood the bike up it seemed to have all the weight in the top side. The Fat Boy and Low rider are balanced just right. I truly think Dave should let me have the pumpkin and I think I would do great on that. The V-Rod is a nice balanced ride also.  So Dave how about a Two for One trade Fat Boy and V-Rod for the Pumpkin ?

Not to negotiate for Dave but I would call it a deal if he can get a SERG thrown into the mix!
Hows that Dave?

He can ride the blue SERG anytime he wants.
But I know he would rather ride his.
No room at the inn for a new one?
Sound like a recipe for getting rid of the Fatboy. (the bike, not Dave)
We are so full at the S/B residence that I have to keep one at the Harley shop.

She took the MSF course on her own in 2001 and passed. Now this is a woman that cannot drive a manual shift car. Way to go. She started on a Buel Blast that was not her favorite. It being a one lunger it was hard to start moving. So she moved up to a 2003 anv. Black Low Rider. The the Softail Deluxe came out in 05 and she feel in love and she owned it until she figured out she needed Cruise Control. Thus came the 07 FLHRSE04 nice cruise control option. She rides appprox 18,000 miles a year. She really enjoys the riding and doesn't miss her BSR time. She also rides alot with a Womens riding group that rides every Thurday night.

Couldn't help getting into this discussion. I was 62 when I first swung a leg over a bike on the FRONT seat. It was my husbands 07 883.  OOOOPS. Went real fast for about 15 feet! Got up, said "----- it!" and went home to enroll in the motorcycle safety course. Took it, loved it. Rode a Honda VLX for 11 months and 7000 miles. Got online, found a FXR4 in northern Iowa ( a gazillion miles away) and bought it. Got it, love it, would recommend it to any woman for a powerful, fast, nimble ride which is low enough and incredibly well-balanced. The FXR of any year is a great woman's bike. I am now 64, and ride everyday. The FXR has given me the confidence to take myself just about anywhere I want to go, and is light and nimble enough to be a dream to handle.  Try one, you will like em.
I am 5'5", weigh 140#.....and OLD.  Husband has a sporty, and a Softtail Heritage. I can ride either one, and the softtail is like riding a couch down the road, but is heavier and not as nimble. I love my FXR.

Great post!  I'm glad you stuck with it!  My wife is freaking out but wants to take the next step.  I can't wait for her to read this thread for inspiration.  She's 44 and very capable of handling any of these bikes (she just doesn't know it yet).  We're going today to look at other bikes.  Keep posting everyone!.

Thank you so much for the welcome and the invitation. Sedona would be a beautiful place to ride, but is a LONG way from Fort Worth. Possible that we could trailer there with our Lance Camper...if the price of gas doesn't put us out of the travel business!  Diesel here is $3.40 today, and climbing!

Thanks Mrs.

My wife's 1st bike was a Suzuki Savage 1 cylinder. she hatted it, than she tried a Suzuki Valusia  800 cc she loved that bike.

Than in the spring of 2004 she wanted to be a Harley rider so we bought her a 2004 HD Heritage Softail Classic. It has the stage 1 kit SE mufflers front engine guards and rear bag guards.

She sat on all of the HD models and she loved the Heritage the best. She is taller and slimmer than me, she is 5'9 and has no problem placing her feet on the ground. She is a great biker, we ride all over New England and upper State NY. I still worry about her all the time but that's because I worry about every thing!

We have one strict rule!  No drinking and driving! We have plenty of time at home to sit have a few drinks.

And every spring we watch a safety coarse CD that we have and we talk about safety before every ride!

OK we pulled the trigger yesterday!  Got the Mrs. an 883C, 2004.  It was still at the Triumph dealer with 3,700 miles, new battery, locking leather covered hard bags, wind shield, and sissy bar.  It's red and silver.  She'll take the rider safety class as soon as she can.  If she isn't comfortable with it after trying it out we'd sell it and only be out a couple hundred $$.  Thanks for everyone's input!

Now I need to trick it out a little bit.  Does anyone have a parts catalog from 2004?  I'm looking for SE slip ons, street performance, slash down.  I've got the part number for the 07 or newer is there a reason those won't work?  The left side is pretty ugly with all of the plain aluminum.  We'll be adding chrome primary and derby covers there.  Oh yeah, and a chrome engine guard for safety.  She's a peach.  I drove it around the parking lot.  It was real nimble and seemed to steer itself.

ell then, there you go.  She has a bike.  She is going to take a class.  She has a supportive spouse, all great first steps.  I'd worry a whole lot less about what you do to make the bike pretty, then getting her geared up comfortably.  Many, Many Congratulations.  I love it when I see the women start to figure out that the best seat on any motorcycle is the front seat of the one you ride on your own.   :coolblue: :cherry:

My wife is 5'4" tall, and weighs 135 pounds.  Former body builder and stayed in great, strong shape.  She alternately rides an '07 Sportster 1200R, an '03 Dyna LowRider, or her most recent acquisition of an '08 FLHRSE4.  Lately, though, it has been difficult for her to ride anything other than the Road King.  Won't climb off the darn thing.  She says that I should be pleased that she 'shares' in MY hobby...LOL.  My hobby consists solely of an '04 Road King with a built motor, custom paint set, Baker DD gear set, etc. etc.  I am happy there...she is a collector!!

My wife rides on whatever I ride.  She's very content being a BSR and prefers to remain one, having no interest in riding her own.  I have no problem with that, as I'd rather have her along as my BSR then to not have her along at all.

I also started riding at age 50.  Everybody else was learning to play golf.  I took the MSF class and bought a used, but perfect, 250 Yamaha Virago from a guy's wife that decided she didn't want to ride.

I rode that bike for a short time and then found a 98 sportster 1200 custom that was beautiful.  I was convinced that I would NEVER be able to ride a bigger bike.  Psychologically, it was best for me to start on the sportster.  It seemd so much bigger than the little Yamaha.

A  year or so later, I tried the Dyna Low Rider and the Softail something or other on "bike day" at the dealership.  I loved both, but especially the Low Rider.

I just traded the sportster and bought the CVO Springer 08.  I love the bike.  Thought I wanted the low rider, but I wanted forward controls, and found the springer to be just right.

I am taking the Sheriffs class tomorrow and the Ride Like a Pro workshop next week.  I love the classes and prefer to get as much mileage as I can in a supervised environment.  I ride a lot, but I still enjoy the special instruction.

Mrs We, was just looking at the picture of you on your bike.  Got to comment on something Candy.  I know I'm always in a better mood riding then doing about anything else.  Even if its a twolane to no place other than a big circle that eventually takes me back hom.  But I sit there, settle in, join the rhythm of the bike and wind and just be right with what's going on.  I've seen you on your bike a few times.  And even more pictures.

Going around you and glancing back to take a look in the twisties in the Smoky Mountains, sitting in a parking lot, no matter where you are on your bike there's always one constant.  You have the biggest grin on your face the whole time.  I bet you never stop!  I like it when riding.  I'm happy.  You're downright buzzed.  You win :2vrolijk_21: .

My lovely wife Karen and our gorgeous daughter Caitlin received their motorcycle endorsements today upon completion of a 4 day Ride with PRIDE class.  Caitlin received the highest rating in the class and beat all of the men!  Now to put some miles on the Sportster!  Congratulations you two!  I love you both and am very proud of you!  You're still more likely to see either of them on the back of mine for GTG's, but never say never!

OK Raquel, your turn!

Congratulations Karen and Caitlin. Way to go!!

You know, we have all in our lives dabbled at something.  A hobby, a sport, something that made us happy.  When my husband bought me my first bike and we took off riding together, we both knew at the same time, this was it.  We had landed on something that we both loved to do equally.  Course, it took many years for me to perfect that riding, and I am not there yet, but youbetcha - it is fun.  In the rain, in the cold, in the gravel, in the dirt, on the hot pavement, in the dark.  I love to ride, and I am especially happy riding that red, two tone candy cherry screamn' eagle electra glide.  Youbetcha!

Thanks for noticing.  If you have ever been where Jamey and I are, you will notice our booming, unforgettable laughs and the perpetual smiles.  We love what we do.

That pic I just posted was taken by brother-in-law, Tim.  I had just come down the mountain off of the Dragon.  I was slower, but proficient and confidant.  A big change from 2005.

Got to admit Don, you're absolutely right.  I've met up with Candy and Jamie a couple of times and her smile is just down-right infectious.  :)  She's always smiling when she's on, or around, her bike.  Ya gotta love it!!   ;)

Still remember as if it were yesterday one particular day at Maggie Valley.  It was cold.  It was raining.  It had been raining.  I was standing on the balcony watching her wander across the lot chatting and grinning with different people around the bikes.  She came up behind my bike and fiddled with the leather tassles that were hanging on it then.  Grinned like a kid in a candy store.  No wonder everyone loves Mrs.We.

That was a fun trip.  I think about that one often.  Met a lot of people there for the first time as it was about the first "big" gathering.  Much fun since then too.

I started riding in 02. We had purchased an EG Classic from Brian's uncle and I felt like it I needed to learn how to ride (take the controls) in case something happened to Brian on a trip. Brian bought me a Honda Shadow 250 ( a perfect bike to learn on). We had it for about six months and then took the Safe Rider's Course. We had looked around for the next bike and I felt like the Low Rider was the best for me. In March 2003 Brian bought the 03 Low Rider (Black - gold key model) from Rocky Mount HD. It was a great first big bike - very well balanced and fit me good. We had that until 2006 when I was ready for a real touring bike with a radio! When I saw the 06 Street Glide it just looked like a really sleek bike. We bought the street glide and sold the LD. With some adjustments I became very comfortable on it. Well, when I saw the 2005 Cherry SEEG (Candy's and Duane's to be exact)  at a GTG I just knew I was going to have to have one some day. Well, that day came this May. Brian flew up to OH Memorial Day weekend and rode it all the way home. The bike is completely stock and only had 8800 miles on it when Brian picked it up. We were really lucky to find out about this one  (thanks goes to Bob (Boatman) for giving us the heads up on this one, as well as Duane (Porthole) for looking for us as well). I believe I will be happy with this one for a long time, I am sure Brian is hoping so too!!

I have the 08 SE Dyna with a stock seat, and at 5'5" I have no troubles at all with the forward controls. When I first started riding, I did find myself pulling forward on the seat, but now I sit back and am very comfortable. I love riding my bike!!!!

Nice thread, never seen this before. Kandy's first bike back in the 80's was a 400 cc Yamaha Maxim twin. She probably didn't put 800 miles on it over 5 years. When we got back into riding 4 years ago we got her the bike below, a Suzuki S50 Boulevard 800cc Vtwin. She still has and loves this bike. Great starter bike. Low seat, small tank, plenty of power. I told her if she rode 2,500 miles in a season she could choose a bigger ride.

We found this bike in spring of 2009 and Kandy fell in love with it. She begins the riding season on the Suzuki and then moves to the Deuce after a few hundred miles.  We did get a lowered, push forward Corbin seat to put her where she is more comfortable.

My wife started out on dirt bikes as a teenager. She was off bikes for a long time, and got her MC license in 2008. She had a 2008 Yamaha 1100 Classic that I had tricked out with a lot of chrome, but it wasn't the bike she really wanted. And I wanted her on a HARLEY! SO, SHE suggested that I trade HER bike on the bike I wanted... so I did... on the new FLHXSE3. Now she's riding my old '95 FLHTP, "Big Bad Bertha" (which I've really tricked out, too), and I'm riding the new CVO SG. She LOVES Bertha , and we're both happy. She says Bertha is a "classic"... and I guess maybe she sort-of, kind-of is... being a '95 FLHTP - which is the 30th anniversary of the original Electra-Glide in '65. She's not an Anniversary Edition or anything - just a '95 Police Bike - but she feels like a member of our family, and my wife really likes riding her.

So I now have my wife on a Harley with me, and all is well!

We're going to the Thunder Beach Rally in Panama City at the end of Sept. Maybe we'll see some of you there!

My wife rides on whatever I ride.  She's very content being a BSR and prefers to remain one, having no interest in riding her own.  I have no problem with that, as I'd rather have her along as my BSR then to not have her along at all.

My wife BSRed with me for awhile on Bertha... then said "Screw THIS! I want to ride my OWN bike and not have to look at myself in the back of your chrome helmet all the time!" Control freaks...

I have tried to talk her into something a a touring chassis like the RK or a Road Glide.  She loves the way they ride, and rides my road glide well,  She just says her legs and feet position are not as comfortable as on the heritage.

My wife would not get on my bike to ride with me.  Tried for many, many years... Then one day out of the blue she signs up for the MSF class at the local HD dealer and buys a Harley...  This was when all I had was a Yamaha Roadstar...

Well, she bought the bike on looks alone, and even after renting one for a day she went with the Sportster...after she got it she realized it was not for her.  Hands would feel numb, the ride was harsh specially over bridge joints...etc.  Anyway, last year I go to check out the bikes to move to my first HD and she starts talking to a few ladies that ride.  They tell her about the Softail Deluxe and how wonderful it is, she sees one in her favorite color and buys it... Needless to say, I was not going to let her buy another HD before I got mine...  So we got our bikes the same day.

She went from this:

Dang she rides a lot of miles.  My wife racks the miles up too.

She has ridden my 09 CVO road glide a few times, but she just does not seem to want one.  Mentioned the new 12 CVO road glide to her, or the Street glide.  However she seems stuck on Heritage, thats what at this point she plans to replace her current 09 with 76K miles on it with.

Mine has an 07 Softail Deluxe which has in effect been turned into a Heritage. Heritage bags, backrest, engine guard and windshield. Sweet bike though and she rides it well. She has ridden it on 2000 mile trips and has led numerous rides around the state. I keep trying to get her to try a touring bike but she is happy with her Deluxe.

I started with a sporty 6 years ago, loved that nimble bike but not great on those long treks we like to take so upgraded to a street glide in 07.  This year I bought a CVO street glide ( autumn harvest) - beautiful ride, beautiful bike.  No reason a woman can't ride the big bikes. Of course if I don't plan the  parking properly, someone may have to pull me out  ( upward slopes are the enemy :))

My wife started out on a 03 Low Rider then went to a 04 Heritage.  For her birthday last year I got her 2011 Convertible and she is having a blast riding it.

My wifes first bike, 2007 FLSTN Softail Deluxe!  She loves this and has enjoyed riding it.  Got it in April 2011 after she passed her riding Class.

Here is my 07 SE Dyna, I just turned 50K on this bike returning from Sturgis this year.

Because I love CVO's so much and I am fortunate enough to put on a few miles each year, I had to get my new CVO below. A little more comfortable for long hauls. I picked up my skunk a couple weeks after Sturgis. I still love my FXDSE though.  :)

Roger, when I met Terrie and showed her my SEEG, all she saw was the fairing, hard bags and leg fairings and thought "that's an old man's motorcycle".  Now she's riding an old woman's motorcycle. :zroflmao: :zroflmao:

My better half is all of 5'3" and 110lbs soaking wet.  She started out riding a 250 Honda Rebel in '98 and within 2 years moved to a Dyna Low Rider and after 4 years riding that moved to an Ultra and never looked back... She loves her bike.

Although even she would admit that a long day in the saddle sometimes requires a nap, and she is often quilty of using her ride for a quick 40 winks!

PS - And yes, she has ridden "her" bike through all those Provinces and States along side of me over the past 12 years.

She is definately my very best riding buddy!

It's really great to see more and more women riding their own. When our group rode to Sturgis this year from the west coast, we had 13 bikes of which 5 were girls.  :orange:

This thread is a perfect example for those women that think the only thing they can handle is a "Sporty".  I have found from experience that the heavier touring bike's require less effort to get down the road.  Yes, sometimes we need to lower them, switch seats for reach and comfort, change the handlebars to help with the reach and smile  ::) a lot to get a push when parking!  But they are IMO the sweetest bike's Harley makes and I encourage all women riders to not dismiss them when shopping because they "look to BIG".   :gorgeous:

since the FLD was introduced earlier this year already 4 girls in our group switched to it from Sporties, Wide Glide and Street Bob. The FLD seems to be a valid alternative and perhaps should be added to this poll.

Well said LovemyCVOgirl. This is exactly what I have discovered as well. Although I can handle this new CVORG, I am just starting the process of fitting this bike to my size. I need to lower about an inch and I should be perfect. I am going to start with a seat mod and this should get me to where I want to be. Ride on gals.  :)
