Title: scooter haulers
Post by: shovelhead71 on June 03, 2005, 03:01:13 PM
how about some external pics and internal shots if you have enclosed wagons for your bike haulers - if you can list the make and model numbers of these haulers for all those that may be interested in updating or if your trailer is "setup" inside - it may help those that want to set theirs up - BRING IT ON  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

In speaking with a friend this week, one matter is for certain...You can expect to pay for more for a trailer than 1-1/2 years ago...the reason?  Cost of materials....

The trailer I purchased then cost over 25% more today given the best price available.

For those who don't like pulling a trailer and would rather haul their bike in the bed of their pick-up, you might be interested in a powered ramp.  I just ordered the "cruiser ramp" from www.cruiserlift.com.  I also looked at the Rampage power lift, but because you can't close the tailgate when not hauling a bike without removing the ramp, I opted for the cruiser ramp.  As soon as I get it installed, I'll let you know how well it does.

I received it last week and installed it in just a couple of hours over the weekend.  It arrived on a pallet already assembled.  All you had to do was bolt it on the pickup bed and hook up the electricals.  It came with everything you need for installation, including a drill bit for the holes.  As you can imagine, I was a little nervous about using it on my new SEEG.  But it operated very smoothly and with hardly little effort...just push the winch button.  Unloading the SEEG was just as easy.

The quality and workmanship of the ramp is excellent and the sales staff are a joy to work with.  If you're interested, my salesman is:  Randy Potter, Fast Master Products, Inc.
Toll Free: (866) 794-8357, Fax: (281) 391-6533, www.cruiserlift.com

By the way, total cost was $1,895 plus freight from Houston to Vegas of $213.00

VELCRO Bill VELCRO

I have to tell you, I had the bed spray lined but you know, I have this nice new hard tonneau cover with the underside lined with this nice gray fabric.  Well, I could not have this mismatched environment so I also got something called a Bedrug to finish the rest of the bed with a fabric.  It is installed with VELCRO holding it down...unfortunately, the adhesive on the back of the VELCRO is not sticking to the spray-in liner very well.  It is an eyesore (just kidding!).

I looked for trailers for a long time before I purchased one. They are not cheap! The first one was a 12 foot open with light duty dual axles. I had them mount a fold down ramp, spare tire mount and purchased a spare tire. I paid $1600.00 for it in the Houston area. While in Daytona for Bike Week I went looking for trailers and it seemed like there were more trailer places than in the Houston area. I finally located a used 2004 single axle pace enclosed trailer with torsion suspension. I traded them my other trailer and drove out with the pace. The trailer went for $4500.00 new plus TT&L It cost me $3000.00 out of my pocket used. Its ventilated, has a dove tail, a rear door that lowers and acts like a ramp. Its lighted as well. It also has a side door for ease of loading the bike. I love it! It offers a lot more protection and people cant see what you have in it when its parked at Hotels during rallies. Depending on the size of the truck you are pulling it with you almost most dont know its their when you are pulling it down the road.

shovelhead71,

I set up this trailer first to haul my display for consumer shows, then just added a wheel stop, tie downs and an aluminum ramp from Grainger.....the trailer is also "Rhino Lined" of course.

From the looks of that car it won't be long before it'll need to be towed by the Skidoo [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Just thought I would find out how you like the product now that you have had it for over a year?  Is it holding up well and does it work?  Any problems and is it easy to install/remove?

Here is my latest scooter hauler that I purchased in South Dakota for going to Bike Rallies. Its called a work and play by Forrest River. Some  people call them toy haulers. It will hold two dressers. It has a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dinning room. It also has a AC and heater. Its set up for a TV and it also has AM FM stereo.

WFP,

My cruiserlift has held up pretty good.  I've used the lift to transport my SEEG on 6 occasions during the past year, and I can attest that it is well manufactured and performs as advertised.  My only complaint is it does take up a lot of the room in the pick-up bed and removing the lift from the pick-up bed can be a pain as it weighs around 300 lbs.  Overall, I'm glad I made the purchase and am very satisfied with the product.  It's a great alternative when you don't want to pull a trailer.

I recently removed the lift as I'm considering a new truck purchase and the lift is in storage at home in Houston.  As I'm currently in Las Vegas, I'm not able to take any pictures to share.  The best I can offer at this time is to refer you to the website:  http://cruiserlift.com/cruiserramp.html

This site has numerous pics and the bottom of the site has video to view an actual loading and unloading.

Thanks for the update!

I agree, that when hauling one bike, the bed is easier than towing the trailer.  That is why I am interested...for those times that I am going to visit my Nieces in Norfolk, it is nice to just throw the bike in the bed.
