Brief article I saw on a local TV's website:
Wasn't sure if anyone knew this person, or anything more about it.
Motorcyclist Dies After Head-On Collision With SUV
Sunday, January 18, 2009
SAN MATEO CO., Calif. -- A motorcyclist, 42-year-old Redwood City resident Troy Lee Manuel, died after colliding with a sport utility vehicle on state Highway 84 in Woodside on Saturday.
The collision was reported around 2:30 p.m. in the 900 block of the highway and blocked traffic until about 7:45 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Manuel was pronounced dead on the highway. No other injuries were reported.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the collision.

I corrected the title to reflect Woodside rather than Woodland.
While that ride is a very nice motorcycle road, usually about 10:1 sport bikes vs. Harleys. You know they pass on blind curves, blind hills, etc.

Sure is. And I was thinking about that exact thought a minute ago. Wondering if it was a sport bike being an idiot passing on a blind curve etc. If it was the casue it is a shame he lost his life over it.
But maybe some of the other sport riders who ride the same road will learn from this if it was the case.
Still sad either way whenever and rider goes down.
-
It's sad, but gladly not someone that I know. Thanks for posting this.

I agree, an accident is always a shame but a motorcycle accident really pulls at us......doesn't matter what he's riding. My thoughts also go directly to the other person......what harm? What damage? Were they innocent victims?
I've taken a number of members of this forum down that road when they come to visit Calif. and always warn them about the sport bike riders.

Same for Hwy 9 on the weekend. You see crotch-rockets running balls-out, crossing the double yellow on turns, etc. My wife loves Hwy 9 during the week but doesn't like being on it on the weekend....

Wonder if as bikers we couldn't ask Johnnie Law to do a crack down on it to make it safer for us all.

Yeah, they'd pull me over for loud pipes instead of the lunatics doing 100+ MPH

I feel ya on that one...
Who knows, I think I might ask some friends I know in law about it.
(GF is retired law... lol)

They're up there all the time. I always see somebody getting a ticket. They need two or three up there.......to catch Ernie with his loud exhaust. :huepfenlol2:

Very nice ride and a bunch of total idiots indeed. My wife and I were on that road last year. My wife in the lead, me trailing about 20 feet. A large group of sport bikes suddenly overtakes us, half of them on the rear wheels only. They startled me, and when they reached my wife she just about went off the shoulder of the road reacting to sudden influx of idiots. I wanted so bad to catch up to the idiots but no chance. Since then we have stayed away from there.

I used to ride that road all the time , it's a great road from "Silicon Valley " to Coast 1 . At the summit it intersects Skyline which runs down the spine of the coastal range down to Santa Cruz. Unfortunately , in the many years I road it accidents were fairly common and usually severe.
Many Squids acting irresponsibly , and it has been that way for the last 25 years.

We live only a couple of miles from 84 and ride it all the time over to the beach (HW 1). The famous Alices's restaurant is at the top and a huge gathering place for cyclists on weekends. It;s not uncommon to see up to a couple hundred bikes there on a nice weekend. Too many crazy sport bikers on the weekend, you have to keep a close eye on your mirrors. Alot of stupid bicyclists too. Heard of way too many accidents up there.

Alice's serves a great breakfast .
The worst one I remember was 2 squids on Skyline just north of Alice's both draggin thier knees , opposite directions ... BAM helmet to helmet at highly elevated velocity.
When will they learn...
